About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Butterfly Cottage is a truly unique cottage located in the Historic district of Saugatuck. Casual cottage styling mixed with colorful spaces, this cottage makes for a comfortable stay in Saugatuck. This quaint cottage will accommodate 8 or 9 people comfortably.

The main house has two bedrooms; one with a queen sized bed and the other with a full. The bungalow, just steps away in the backyard, serves as the third bedroom and has heat and air conditioning. The bungalow has a queen size bed and also bunk beds. The bungalow has a full bath that was added in 2011.

Located in the heart of the village district, plan on walking to all the in-town locations. The river is just a few hundred feet away with shops, restaurants and parks located within a 3-10 minute walk. If you are familiar with Saugatuck, Butterfly cottage is a stone's throw from the public boat launch, Gleason's market and Ida Reds.

We are happy to be one of the few places to welcome well mannered pets in our cottage. An added plus, the back yard is fully fenced.

Our home was fully booked all but 2 nights during the summer season this year. We are beginning to fill up for 2018, so please contact us early if your dates are limited. During June, July and August, we try to limit ( with some flexibility ) our rental periods to full weeks running Saturday to Saturday.

About Scott Sanderson

We purchased Butterfly Cottage in 1999 as a weekend getaway. Saugatuck is such a unique community, with a lot to offer. We enjoyed our weekends in Saugatuck so much, we sold our house in Kalamazoo and moved out to Butterfly Cottage full time from 2001 through 2003. When we decided to start a family, we made our cottage available for seasonal rentals for a few years. During this time, it was nearly always full and we enjoyed reading the comments left by our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a great relaxing time here in Saugatuck as always. It's a nice little get away. The Butterfly Cottage is nicely put together...we love the color schemes. Of course the best parts are Kilwin's Ice Cream and Oval Beach. Wonderful time...hope to be back in this cottage next year. Thank You!

Great cottage just blocks from everything!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is located just a few blocks from everything that there is to do in Saugatuck. Two bedrooms and a bath, and a very comfortable living area provide plenty of room, along with the eat in kitchen. Scott was very responsive to a problem that occurred at our arrival, and solved it easily. We would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

Cute cottage in the perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at this property for a Girl's Weekend and it was perfect. The location is a short walk to the shops and restaurants in Saugatuck. The house is so cute and has all the essentials you need. The guest house in the back is a great addition to this property. It has its own bathroom which came in handy with 6 girls.

We had a wonderful trip to Saugatuck and this property was perfect for our group of 6 women. The house is in great shape, decorated nicely and in the perfect location if you want to be close to the shops and restaurants.

**** Scott, the owner, is wonderful to work with. We had a reservation date mix-up (my fault, not his) and Scott went above and beyond to make sure we could get into the house asap. He didn't have to do that, but he did. He provided superior customer service to our group and I will definitely rent from him again.

The cottage was charming at a very convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The Butterfly Cottage provided a most enjoyable stay for our family. The home was well equipped for all our needs and the decor was truly adorable, creating quite a comfortable and relaxed feeling. We also loved the bungalow for added space, which also was quite charming, with its own bathroom and shower. We also appreciated the convenience of the fenced-in yard for our dog.

The location was an easy walk several blocks into town. And also quite convenient, as we stayed here in the Fall, was a short 15 minute drive to Crane's Orchard for apple picking.

We would highly recommend this cottage for your stay in Saugatuck.

Adorable Cottage! Perfect location!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the Butterfly Cottage for five nights towards the end of September, 2017. We were with two other couples. The cottage was perfect for our needs! It is decorated with a fun whimsical style! We all thought is was very nicely done! The beds were comfortable and the home was very clean and spacious! We loved the courtyard behind the house and spent a lot of time sitting at the very large table! The location is wonderful and we never needed to drive a car while we were there! It is very close walking distance to the main area of Saugatuck! So many restaurants to choose from! We also enjoyed walking the boardwalk and looking at the yachts in the harbor! Saugatuck and the Butterfly Cottage did not disappoint! Thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely home with tourists!

Adorable place is as cute as advertised!

  • 4 of 5

We really loved this little cottage. It fit our needs perfectly and had such a homey feel to it.

We were so grateful that we were able to bring our little Jack Russell puppy with us. My daughter and her fiance appreciated their privacy in the coach house. Very comfy beds and the living room sofa was SO comfortable I fell asleep on it every night! Loved the yard too, and that it was completely fenced. Wonderful location very easy walking distance to everything in town. I would have given it a 5* rating except that I could not get the TV figured out and surprisingly there was no instruction for it in the little "Welcome" book or anywhere else. I texted Scott, the owner, asking what I was doing wrong and he didn't reply. Luckily about 90 minutes later I was finally able to figure it out myself. I do think that the owner should make himself available and/or be more responsive on the check-in day for any questions that may arise, especially for technical idiots like me. Also, the kitchen, while very cute, needed a few restocking items such as pot lids, cutlery, something to put leftovers in, wine glasses, and a sponge or cleaning cloth for wiping down counters, stove, etc. Lastly, the grill was exceptionally dirty and we didn't have the proper tools & supplies with which to clean it so if you plan to grill, I would recommend you bring that with you. Overall, though, a great success and definitely a place that I would return to, hopefully next summer!
