It will not be our last stay ...
June 22 – July 2 2008
When we arrived we suddenly felt in love with this beautiful house. Our first expression was to be in one of these “Astrid Lindgren Houses” – story of Michel in Kathult. The old house is full of lovely details so we and the children had a lot of things to discover in the house and the nature. We liked to row the red boat on the lake and to swim in the clear waters. We tried to explore the nearby beaches and the holiday park in Kristiansand. The only thing we missed was 5 degrees more on the thermometer. The house itself was best equipped – we missed nothing here. It was our first stay in Norway, but it will not be the last stay here because there are so many places to visit.
Lovely old farmhouse in peaceful setting
Although our stay was short - a long weekend - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Svein and Ellen's lovely old farmhouse. It was our last stop on our two-week driving holiday in Norway. The house is warm and comfortable and very nicely decorated in country style with many homely touches. We loved being able to walk down to the lake and enjoy the last of the summer sun on the Sunday morning and then drive to Grimstad for lunch and a stroll around the harbour. Although Svein and Ellen had been called away on a family matter and we didn't meet them in person, through telephone calls and email, they made us feel extremely welcome. We particularly appreciated Svein's suggestion to take the ferry to picturesque Merdo Island one afternoon from where we could see the Store and Lille Torungen lighthouses on the neighbouring island - lighthouses being one of my favourite photographic subjects. The fresh eggs we found in the kitchen when we arrived were also much appreciated. We would recommend a stay at this lovely old farmhouse without any hesitation.

A charming and peaceful retreat for any season
The Froland farmhouse is the best of charmingly traditional Norwegian building. Nestled in a private little valley with its own lake, amongst a hand full of other valley residents, it immediately gives the feeling of having “escaped” from the rest of the world.
There was a fireplace in the living room and a wood heated stove in the kitchen with a good supply of wood in a barn beside the house. Since we were there in December, the fireplace was put to good use warming the bottom floor nicely. With bedrooms upstairs and below the main floor, there was plenty of room. The kitchen was modern and well equipped.
In addition to feeling that we received great value for money, the general atmosphere of both the farmhouse and surrounding area was an extra quality that should not be undervalued. With walking trails all around you get the feeling of being further into the countryside than you actually are. Froland, a modern thriving little community has good grocery shopping and Arendal (10 minute drive) has a good selection of restaurants, movies and nightlife.
The owners were friendly, interesting and intelligent in their interactions with us. They respected our privacy while being cheerfully available to answer our questions.
Our experience in Froland left us with a distinctly positive feeling and a desire to return.
A perfect get away - highly recommended
This house was prefect for us. Really comfortable, spacious and such a homely feel to it. We were given great advise by the owner about places to see and things to do in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful nature, but there were also plenty of choice for visiting nearby towns, markets and a brilliant animal park not too far away. We highly recommend this place and would definitely come back another time.

Six coastal cities/towns within one hour drive. 30 minutes to one of Norway's top ranked golf courses. 60 minutes from Norway's best Zoo and amusement park. 60 km from mineral park. 3 km to Osedalen village with shops and restaurant. Other Activities: Hiking, beaver, elk and deer sighting
