While he was the organist and music director of Savannah’s Unitarian Church, which faces onto Troup Square, the Reverend John Pierpont Jr. wrote the beloved Christmas song Jingle Bells, copyrighted in 1857. In 1985, the City of Savannah placed a plaque in Troup Square to commemorate the song and its Savannah roots.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Built in 1900, our cottage is in a quiet residential neighborhood 50 yards from Troup Square. The one bedroom, one bath property is single storey. Fully renovated in 2011, it has off-street parking for one small car and ample free street parking—no meters to feed with quarters or $7.00 daily parking permits required. Within easy walking distance of restaurants (there is one within 100 yards), the Savannah riverfront, and all of the fun and fascination of pre-Civil War historic architecture, beautiful landscaping, antique shops, etc.

About Owner

We are a nearing-retirement age couple from the New York City area with backgrounds in fine arts and restoration, an appreciation for eccentricity, and a limited amount of patience for shoveling snow - so Savannah is perfect for us.

Owner purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Owner chose Savannah

When our son was clever enough to pass up the blustery New York area where he was born and enrolled in the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in animation in 2004 we began thinking about escaping ourselves - at least for visits. He graduated in 2008 and has moved on to other challenges but we continue to be fascinated by Savannah, one of the most magical cities in the US.

What makes this cottage unique

For short and longer term visits we have stayed in quite a few Savannah hotels and a dozen or so furnished vacation rentals, so we have a good idea of what we want to find to make us comfortable, which has guided us in renovating and furnishing this cottage.

The Perfect Savannah Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visit Savannah often and have literally stayed all over the city. Our favorite area is the historic district because of the architectural beauty and the gorgeous landscaping. The Jingle Bells Cottage is by far one of the loveliest properties we have experienced. The cottage itself had all the necessities and was beautifully decorated. We found it to be very clean and so comfortable. We sat in the garden with a glass of wine before dinner as the weather was so nice. Jingle Bells is located within a lovely 10-15 walk to River Street, and there are so many nice restaurants and shops along the way. The owner Richards was very, very prompt in answering all questions and went the extra mile when I needed to move dates. My sister and I are looking for a visit and the cottage would be perfect! Such a pleasant, enjoyable experience, there are not enough words.....just charming! The cottage is perfect in every way!

Great location, sweet cottage!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I made a last minute decision to take a quick trip to Savannah and were able to book the Jingle Bells Square Cottage for two nights. It was perfect for the two of us - and ideally located. We have been in Savannah before and loved being able to walk easily to everything. The location was just right for us and, being a light sleeper, I appreciated the low noise factor.

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Savannah and we loved the Jingle Bell Square Cottage. The location was within walking distance of so many areas that we visited. The accommodations were great and everything we needed was there. Will definitely stay here again for more visits to Savannah.

Lovely, quiet cottage

  • 5 of 5

Jingle Bell cottage is beautifully designed, comfortable, and cozy without feeling cramped. Fabulous for a couple. Great location. We could easily live there. Full kitchen, comfortable bed, open living/dining with a private little porch. I would recommend this to friends going to Savannah. Right down the street is a fabulous, small neighborhood restaurant, the Firefly. The parking space is very small, but works. Plus there is on street parking. We parked once and walked everywhere in the historic district. A real jewel!

Loved this cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for a weekend away for two people. It's in a great location, and we were able to walk everywhere. The bed is comfortable, there's a full kitchen, and you can use the door onto Liberty Lane or go through the courtyard to E. Harris Street. We enjoyed having some delicious charcuterie and cheese and fresh bread in nearby Troup Square that we bought from Smith Brothers Butcher Shop, which is a three-minute walk from the cottage. We were even able to check in early on Friday, which was great because we were in town for a 4pm Friday wedding. We will definitely be back!

First rate!

  • 5 of 5

This is great cottage in the heart of the historic district. It is very well appointed with everything you need and extremely clean. Having a parking stall and a washer/dryer was a bonus. We spent two nights in the cottage and were then caught by the mandatory evacuation of Savannah because of Hurricane Matthew. It was sad not to get in our full six nights. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck with a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. During the course of our stay with the hurricane getting nearer, we were in contact with the owner and rental agent who were both most helpful and accommodating. Thanks again to both of them! This is a first rate property that we would have no hesitation recommending to our family and friends or anyone else interested in a really good place to stay. You won't be disappointed. Hopefully there was no damage from the hurricane.
