*** We are registered with the City of Savannah as a Short Term Vacation Rental. Jingle Bells Square Cottage - SVR-00032 ***

*** Need something larger? We have another property in the same neighborhood - 2 BR 2.5 BA.

Listing # 639895 ***

*** Important: Our property is in a quiet residential neighborhood. Savannah has strict noise ordinances. Complaints from neighbors result in a $500 fine for the property owner.

*** The Principal Tenant must be 25 or older.

While he was the organist and music director of Savannah’s Unitarian Church, which faces onto Troup Square, the Reverend John Pierpont Jr. wrote the beloved Christmas song Jingle Bells, copyrighted in 1857. In 1985, the City of Savannah placed a plaque in Troup Square to commemorate the song and its Savannah roots.

Built in 1900, our cottage is in a quiet residential neighborhood 50 yards from Troup Square. The one bedroom, one bath property is single storey. Fully renovated in 2011, it has off-street parking for one small car and ample free street parking—no meters to feed with quarters or $7.00 daily parking permits required. Within easy walking distance of restaurants (there is one within 100 yards), the Savannah riverfront, and all of the fun and fascination of pre-Civil War historic architecture, beautiful landscaping, antique shops, etc.

Highlights: Private Deck with outdoor cafe table and chairs and 15-ft-long built-in bench for seating --- Full Gourmet Kitchen - island breakfast bar, quartz countertops, full-size stainless steel refrigerator, gas range, dishwasher, microwave --- Open Plan Dining Room/Living Room. Dining area has 1920’s oak draw-leaf table that can seat six, and a working fireplace. Living area has comfortable, queen-size pullout sofa-bed—one that you would actually be happy sleeping on!—custom manufactured by Rowe Furniture in North Carolina, with “Air Dreaml” innerspring air mattress system --- In the Bedroom, a Queen-Size Bed (The manufacturer describes this mattress as 'Firm' - not 'Extra Firm' , not 'Soft'. We have purchased an additional memory foam mattress topper. Guests who prefer a firmer mattress can take the topper off during their stay) --- High-Definition Flat-Screen TVs (Living Room, Bedroom and Kitchen) with High-Definition Cable and High-Speed Wireless Internet --- Phone with local telephone number and free calls within the Continental US --- Bathroom with new tub/shower combination --- Carefully furnished with original artworks, framed vintage textiles, antiques, and modern accessories

About Owner

We are a nearing-retirement age couple from the New York City area with backgrounds in fine arts and restoration, an appreciation for eccentricity, and a limited amount of patience for shoveling snow - so Savannah is perfect for us.

Owner purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Owner chose Savannah

When our son was clever enough to pass up the blustery New York area where he was born and enrolled in the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in animation in 2004 we began thinking about escaping ourselves - at least for visits. He graduated in 2008 and has moved on to other challenges but we continue to be fascinated by Savannah, one of the most magical cities in the US.

What makes this cottage unique

For short and longer term visits we have stayed in quite a few Savannah hotels and a dozen or so furnished vacation rentals, so we have a good idea of what we want to find to make us comfortable, which has guided us in renovating and furnishing this cottage.

Loved this cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for a weekend away for two people. It's in a great location, and we were able to walk everywhere. The bed is comfortable, there's a full kitchen, and you can use the door onto Liberty Lane or go through the courtyard to E. Harris Street. We enjoyed having some delicious charcuterie and cheese and fresh bread in nearby Troup Square that we bought from Smith Brothers Butcher Shop, which is a three-minute walk from the cottage. We were even able to check in early on Friday, which was great because we were in town for a 4pm Friday wedding. We will definitely be back!

First rate!

  • 5 of 5

This is great cottage in the heart of the historic district. It is very well appointed with everything you need and extremely clean. Having a parking stall and a washer/dryer was a bonus. We spent two nights in the cottage and were then caught by the mandatory evacuation of Savannah because of Hurricane Matthew. It was sad not to get in our full six nights. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck with a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. During the course of our stay with the hurricane getting nearer, we were in contact with the owner and rental agent who were both most helpful and accommodating. Thanks again to both of them! This is a first rate property that we would have no hesitation recommending to our family and friends or anyone else interested in a really good place to stay. You won't be disappointed. Hopefully there was no damage from the hurricane.

Very comfy home away from home

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is well appointed and very comfortable. Access and parking are easy. Owners have helpful literature about surrounding resources, as well as tips for operating TV, lights... in the unit. We expect we will return.

Thumbs up for Jingle Bells

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time at the cottage. It is in a wonderful location and, although that available parking space sure is small, street parking was not a problem. The cottage was also a great place to stay with our young son because it had all the necessities required to travel with a toddler—a bathtub, a full and well-labeled kitchen, separate areas to set up a pack and play, and an outside patio to park a stroller. In addition, the owners were very accommodating when our plans got delayed because of Hurricane Hermine and the resulting storm warnings in our travel path. We will definitely make this place a must-stay when we return to Savannah.

Planning a return trip!

  • 4 of 5

The Jingle Bell Square Cottage was a very pleasant experience. It was clean, well maintained and had many amenities one cannot find in a hotel.

It was easy to access and to make ourselves at home thanks to the organization and attention to detail of our hosts. Street parking was available each time we returned to the cottage after being away. We were also able to walk to many of our destinations. Some of these destinations were at the recommendation of our hosts in both through an email sent prior to our arrival and a resource folder in the cottage.

We very much enjoyed a dinner at Cha Bella- 15 minute walking distance, several coffee houses, and J Christopher for breakfast.

We are already considering a return trip, and would indeed recommend it to friends.

Jingle Bell Cottage a great find.

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I so enjoyed our stay at the Jingle Bell Cottage. The rooms were crisp and clean and a delight to come home to after a hot summer day exploring the beautiful city of Savannah. It is a short walk to St. John the Baptist Church which is an easy "hop on" to most of the trolley tours. Our only problem was that we could not park the Jeep in the cottage's parking space but it was a short $5 Uber to most parts of the city. Despite this, we would recommend this historic home to anyone and would like to come back again for a longer visit.

Owner's Response: We have a dedicated off-street parking space for one "small" car for the exclusive use of our cottage guests. It's difficult to define "small" these days. We have parked our own Toyota Highlander (a mid-sive SUV) in the space. For guests with very large cars or those who choose not to use the parking space there is ample on-street parking available in our neighborhood with no meters or parking permits required.

A few things not found in many Savannah rentals: • QUIET - a quiet residential street, and a one-storey building (no upstairs or downstairs neighbors). Like many historic Savannah homes ours is semi-detached, but we have installed 6 inches of sound insulation between us and the adjacent neighbor. • PRIVATE DECK with outdoor cafe table and chairs and 15-ft-long built-in bench for seating • In the Living Room area - A REALLY COMFORTABLE, QUEEN-SIZE PULLOUT SOFA-BED—one that you would actually be happy sleeping on!—custom manufactured by Rowe Furniture in North Carolina, with “Air Dream” innerspring air mattress system. • High-Definition Flat-Screen TVs (Living Room, Bedroom and Kitchen) with FULL HIGH DEFINITION CABLE, DVR, DVD player, Stereo CD player with iPod dock.
