Our place is in the prime spot to explore the famous Highland Lakes. Great Lake is on your doorstep, Little Pine within 10 minutes, Penstock 20 minutes, Arthurs 30 minutes. The Stone Shack is ideally situated between the Lodge and Great Lake Hotel. General supplies can be purchased from the Great Lake Shop.
Comfortable sleeping arrangements, I bedroom with a queen size bed downstairs, upstairs there is 1 bedroom with a double bed and single bed and 1 bedroom with a bunk and 1 single bed.
There's a reverse cycle air conditioner in the main lounge area as well as the wood heater to keep the place warm and cosy.
There is also a full sized slate top 8 ball table upstairs.
Super comfortable leather couches and full kitchen with all the bits you need to cook up a storm. There's even a coffee machine. It's an Expressotoria Capina capsule machine, you can get the Vittoria capsules, from Coles and Woolies on your way up the mountain, makes a good drop to start the day. Be sure to get the Expressotorio capsules, the Nepresso ones don't fit.
Be sure to stock up on your groceries before you head up the mountain. The local shop has recently changed hands and it seems it doesn't stock what it used to.
From the balcony you can see Swan Bay through the trees, that's how close you are to the water.
Plenty of opportunities enjoy a brisk walk around the area to explore. Take a walk in the evening and see how much wildlife you can spot.
Our place is good for small groups, couples and families (with kids). The house is not infant proof, if you have little ones you will need to use your own judgement as to what needs to be put away from inquisitive hands.

Perfect getaway shack!
The stone shack is in a great position with only a 5 min walk to the great lake and views of the lake from the wooden decking at the front of the house. The shack itself has a fully stocked kitchen of all equipment and utensils needed for preparing meals, they also have a coffee machine! One bedroom downstairs next to bathroom and separate toilet, upstairs has more rooms and a billiard table! The fireplace downstairs keeps the place nice and cosy and the chimney goes all the way through the top level providing warmth throughout the shack. I would happily stay again next time I'm in the highlands.
Thanks for the review Josh and we're glad you found The Stone Shack to have all you needed to keep comfortable and cook up a storm. We look forward to having you again at The Stone Shack. Cheers Vince & Lynda
Well appointed lake retreat
I stayed as part of a group of 5 adults. The shack is spacious, beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and had high quality fixtures and fittings. When we arrived it was lovely and warm, the fire had been lite ready for our arrival - a welcoming touch.
There was a large DVD library, BOSE sound and the eightball table in the rumpus upstairs got a lot of use. It has views of the lake, a big deck, plenty of interesting books - couldn't fault a thing.
Thanks for the wonderful weekend catching up with friends.
Mel, We are so pleased you've enjoyed your stay at The Stone Shack and look forward to hosting you and your friends again sometime soon. Mel and her party were excellent guests and we would highly recommend them as guests at your place. Thanks again for booking with us. Vince & Lynda
Great home away from home
The Stone Shack was perfect for a quick get away from Melbourne. Situated close to Great Lake and short driving to other trout lakes it was well suited to my needs. The owner was very accomodating with local information and was in contact to ensure I was settled. The house has an extremely well equipped kitchen, great furniture, warm (fire) even at subzero temps (September) and easy to find. The house has all the mod cons including a lots of books, local fishing information and DVD's for a lazy day in. I enjoyed my stay and recommend to others, couples or families.
Justin, Really glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to hosting you again sometime. Thanks again for booking with us. Vince & Lynda
We had a fantastic stay. Lots of space for the kids to spread out. Owners were friendly and helpful and were fast to communicate. The kitchen had plenty of equipment for cooking. Thanks so much for a great holiday.

As a company working all over Tasmania and staying in many places state wide, this house was found to be excellent, very comfortable and warm for the great lake area. House is very well fitted out and one of the best stocked houses I have come across.
Thanks for a great stay Vince..
Chris, Thank you so much for your kind review, we're pleased you enjoyed your stay. Anytime you want to return you're most welcome. Cheers Vince & Lynda
Fly fishing for wild Tasmanian trout is the main attraction to the Highlands of Tasmania although many people just enjoy the solitude, bush walking, hiking in the back lakes and just leaving the rat race behind. Pristine wilderness with loads of local wildlife, deer, possums, wallabies, echidnas, parrots etc.
