About Nicole

Hello! I am a world traveler and outdoor adventurer! In my younger years, I traveled the world as a professional backpacking, mountaineering, and snowboarding instructor for NOLS the National Outdoor Leadership School. My adventures have included snowboarding down some of the worlds biggest mountains such as Denali/Mt McKinley. I teach snowboarding at the Crested Butte Adaptive Sports Center in the winter months. I call Crested Butte home even though I only spend 5-6 months a year in this most amazingly beautiful town!!!!!!!! My Crested Butte Cottage is fun and uniquely decorated with elegant items I have collected all over the world from South Korea to Africa, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia.

Nicole purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Nicole chose Southwestern Colorado

It is spectacular! In my back yard is the best skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, and awe inspiring views, AND this town is unique in the friendly small town feel with worldly people!

What makes this cottage unique

Cozy, Comfy, Warm, Sunny, Homey & Friendly with top of the line amenities and entertainment!

Perfect place to stay in Crested Butte

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed Nicole's Cottage. It had everything we needed for our stay, and the location can't be beat. It's far enough from the middle of town to be very quiet, but close enough to walk everywhere. There's just enough yard space for a dog. The cottage was very well-stocked with towels and linens, and off-street parking was fantastic to have. Nicole was always available to answer any questions or concerns. She was also very accommodating when we wanted to stay a couple of extra nights!

Great location and Property, but lacked details.

  • 4 of 5

We liked the rental, had a great location and was nice inside. Also great that we could bring our dogs. However, there were a few problems. When we arrived, the hot tub was filthy and had to be drained. It was ready by our last night there and we were refunded some money for not being able to use it, but we would of liked to use it our first two nights. The Dishwasher does not work well because the soap dispenser is non functioning so it doesn't clean dishes well. The sauna was non operational. Also, there was no soap in the showers. Finally, the grill was buried in snow, but we got around this by using the neighbors grill.

Again, good place, but lacked attention to detail that would have made it five stars.

Owner's Response: Honestly, I have gotten all positive reviews and excellent comments about the decor, comfort, and all amenity details of Nicole's Cottage. Many guests return year to year and state they love that it has every kitchen item they need. The hot tub does require weekly or biweekly maintenance depending on the time of year. We added notice to the rental agreement the hot tub maybe out of service one day weekly for routine maintenance . As mentioned, the hot tub was taken care of immediately and available the next day for use. I did give them a refund based on one day with out use of the hot tub. I also purchased new and replaced the dishwasher. As mentioned the old one broke while this guest was there. The sauna works perfectly well. The sauna is inferred and this guested did not notice it needs to be plugged in to be operational. Please call me with any questions. Nicole 970.444.2094

Plenty of beds, good shuttle transportation to ski hill

  • 4 of 5

The Good:

Lots of beds. We slept 6 adults, 2 youngsters, and had room to sleep at least 3 more adults in the loft upstairs. Would be great if the kids were old enough to make it up the treacherous ladder to get to the loft. Teenagers/older kids would love it up there.

Kitchen has very good stove and oven, all modern. However, there is very little room in the kitchen for more than 1 person. 2 people max for any kind of effective cooking and cleaning.

Building was very warm, and the tiles are heated. Took a while to figure out the 'right' temperature. Solid construction throughout means you don't hear your roommates walking around upstairs (but you do hear the next-door neighbors loud voices occasionally).

Location is close to Elk Ave for restaurants, and very close to the shell gas station where you can catch a shuttle.

We enjoyed the living room space, it was comfy, albeit seating is a bit awkward. It's not a large space, as the kitchen bar and cabinets take up a large space, but it works fine.

The Bad:

Shared hot tub required negotiating hot-tub time with next-door-unit guests (same building, different house).

Because the hot tub is not located directly behind the next-door unit and not _this_ unit, needed to climb over 6 feet of snow to get to the hot tub. Only to be an issue during large snow falls.

Kitchen was missing some basic tools like wine opener and dish washer liquid. Few other things that I cannot recall at the moment.

Overall:

It's a nice place and we enjoyed our stay there. Thank you.

Would stay again, but should be able to find a cheaper option with similar amenities if looking early enough.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. Kitchen items are continuously going missing and being replaced. I went to check the house just after this review and honestly found both the wine opener and the regular dish soap ready to go. Yes the hot tub is shared with the next door neighbors. This detail is listed several times in our add and description. And yes, this year (2017) was the biggest snow year in over 15 years. The entire town was buried with no where to displace the snow. Snow up to the roof lines. We were barely able to keep open access to the hot tub. In Feb, one actually had to step down off the snow to get into the hot tub. It was necessary to navigate lots of snow to get to the hot tub. There was no around that and it was a epic fun winter. :-)

We had a fantastic time!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great cabin in a fantastic location! We just wrapped up a ski weekend with friends spread across 2 houses in the downtown area. We are all in our late twenties / early thirties.

Things we loved:

- Perfect size for 8 people - the 4 bedrooms worked well for 3 couples sharing a bed and 2 individuals on twins

- Very close to the shuttle stop and it was awesome to be the last stop downtown on the way up to the mountain, we never had a long ride to the slopes

- We LOVED the heated floors in the upstairs bathroom

- Nice little hot tub, we enjoyed the snow obstacle course to get to it hehe!

- Very quiet neighborhood yet close enough to walk to downtown bars / restaurants

- Comfortable living room and it was nice to have an open kitchen to hang out and make breakfast and drink coffee together. The blankets in the living room were a nice touch too.

- Our bedroom was comfortable and our friends seemed to enjoy theirs too

- I loved the artwork on the walls! The whole place was charming.

- We never worried about not having enough towels or toilet paper -- sounds like a minor thing but some rentals don't provide enough!

Just one little thing:

- Our friends said their beds were a little hard, maybe some mattress toppers would be a good idea?

All in all we had a great time! Thanks for making our stay comfortable and effortless.
