This very peaceful and quiet house is located on North Beach Eleuthera in the Current settlement approximately 7 miles from North Eleuthera airport. The view from the house is overlooking the Atlantic Ocean which you can see the beach below and spectacular sunsets. The beach is beautiful white sand and stretches approximately for one mile. You can swim in the crystal clear water and walk the beach to find beautiful shells, sand dollars, starfish, etc.
This house has a wheelchair accessible bathroom and ramp to the beach. There is an outside shower for when you get done enjoying the beach you can rinse off before heading into the house. We have bicycles with baskets, fishing tackle, rods, reels and 2 person 13 ft Kayak to explore the island .
I am very partial to Eleuthera because this is where my grandparents were born who were fishermen and farmers on the island. I love the water in the islands. You will love the islands when you get the sand in your shoes and the saltwater in your veins.
*We are members of Vacation for Veterans. we support our military and donate our home to wounded soldiers and their families to enjoy. www.vacationforveterans.org
Jack Sweeting purchased this house in 2004
I love Eleuthera and the people that live there.
We are pleased Mr.and Mrs Adam's enjoyed their stay at the Hibiscus House
and had a chance to get peace and quiet and lots of sun on the beach, hope you get another chance to come back to the Islands of the Bahamas.
Please come back soon
My husband and I stayed at the Hibiscus House for a week and we had a wonderful time. We were hoping for privacy and we got it. You can't see any other houses from the house or from the tiki hut. There were few people on the beach all week. It was very quiet and we fell asleep each night listening to the waves. James, the caretaker, was very helpful and we scheduled for him to take us fishing a day. He took us to the best spots and we caught a ton of fish. If you are looking for a place to get away from crowds and the stress of life, this is the place to go.
We had never been to the Bahamas and my wife and I scheduled a week at the Hibiscus House to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We have been to beaches in Caribbean but the Hibiscus House is a truly unique experience and we are already planning our return trip with our teenage son. The owner Jack Sweeting was very easy to deal with in arranging our stay. He called twice while we were on site to make sure everything was in order and that we were comfortable in his home. The beach front home is everything we could have hoped for, exactly as described in the listing and photos do not do justice to the ocean views. Facing West, the sunsets were truly breathtaking. The home has two large bedrooms, each with zoned air conditioning that made for very comfortable stay. Everything you would need for this vacation is at the house and travelers to this destination need to be prepared to cook your own meals and fend for yourselves. This home more than accommodates your needs. There are two bikes and we used them extensively to explore the little town of Current. There is a small local grocery store, library and post office within a few blocks. We chose not to rent a car, but the next time we go with family we will rent one to further explore Eleuthera. There are also two tandem sit-on-top kayaks and four paddles. We took an entire day and traveled 8 miles up the North coast via kayak our first full day on island. The calm ocean and gentle surf made this experience one of our favorite memories of our trip. We cannot say enough kind things about our caretaker James. He is a native of Current Island and picked us up at the airport. He assisted with getting us to the grocery store, liquor store and to the house. We arranged for him to take us fishing, snorkeling and spear fishing, reasonably priced adventures that truly made our lasting memories of this trip. The sea life around Current Island cannot be experienced properly from the beach chair it must be experienced through a dive mask and James will share his lifelong knowledge of the true beauty that is Eleuthera. The bonefishing is world class and we took advantage of this one day to enable my wife to catch her first bonefish. I witnessed the largest school I have ever seen in my pursuit of these fascinating fish. This destination is an adventure. If your idea of a vacation is to get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life, this is the place for you
I highly recommend a stay at the Habiscus House. We stayed there for 10 days and loved every second of it. The house is very comfortable and has everything you need. Sure there are a few things that need some maintenance but they are so minor, it didn't detract from our enjoyment. The beach front was great for hanging out in the shade of the hut or swimming. We had so many days where the water was dead flat, it made for great swimming. There isn't much in the way of snorkeling out front but there is some small fish to play with. Check out the anchor under the buoy. There is a small moray eel that lives there. The grocery and liquor stores are a short drive away. We also enjoyed several day trips to the northern part of the main island and ferried to some of the smaller islands. Mostly we loved hanging out by the "Cut". We fished, biked, hiked and snorkeled there. The current was too strong for us to swim in but the little cove by the old boat "channel" had an awesome concentration of small fish. I also fished from the walls of the channel and caught some nice fish. We loved the bikes and kayaks and made good use of each. I am a birder and we saw many great species just walking down the road. James the caretaker and Jack the owner are both fantastic and only care about your comfort and well being. Each checked on us several times during the stay. If you love to fish and have never ocean fished, it's worth having James take you out. I was thrilled as we caught fish after fish. Plus you can't beat the fresh fish dinners we had. I can't wait to go back. Thanks Jack and James.
Our week at Jack's house was so relaxing I didn't want to leave. It's a solid-built stone home, well furnished and convenient, with 2 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Nice linens, a lot of tasteful amenities. 360-degree view -- whatever direction you looked was beautiful and private. I am sun-sensitive, so the availability of shade on the two decks, no matter what time of day, was very much appreciated! There were other beach homes nearby, but they can't be seen from this property, so it feels like your own private island. James, the caretaker, did a good job for us and was always reachable by phone when we needed him. One of our favorite amenities was the land-line telephone in the house and the complimentary vonage phone service. Our cell phones didn't work on Eleuthera, but we could check voicemail from the land-line. I would highly recommend it.
We just got back from our trip to the Hisbisic House and it was absolutely amazing! From before I booked the trip until we left, everything was wonderful! The owner is a very nice man. Always very responsive when I sent him a message, which I really appreciate. Before I booked I asked him to call me so I could ask some questions and he did so very quickly and spent an hour on the phone just giving me information and answering my questions. From the time we got there James Munroe, the caretaker, met us at the airport and brought our rental car. Which I highly recommend you pay the extra money and get the car. James was a nice man but he recently got a full time job at a dive shop and was hard to get a hold of. Still was nice to know he was available if we needed him. The house is very nice. Older home with some updates but everything is clean and well taken care of. When we got there, the owner called to be sure everything was ok which was a nice touch and he called again right before we left to see how our stay was. The house is equipped with everything you would need. The kitchen has all the dishes, pots, pans, etc. to stay in a cook every night if that's what you wanted to do. The beach at the house is beyond amazing with some of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever see! Big and sandy beach with beautiful calm waters right in front of the house. Only steps away to your own private escape. Loved the tiki hut on the beach to get out of the sun for the day too. Overall we had an amazing stay here and I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you Mr. Sweeting for an amazing experience!
Jack, the owner, is a real southern gentleman and as gracious as they come! He called and made sure we arrived ok and again a couple of days later to make sure we were happy with everything. The house is on the most beautiful and non-touristy beach with lots of quiet and privacy. I took a novel with me to unwind but found that when I was not in the perfect water, I was gazing at it and could not read a word for all the beauty around me. The house is well equipped with everything you might want and Current is not far away to find veggies from stands or Lower Bogue for other things. James Munroe is Jack's property manager who is attentive to all needs, offers advice, and generally makes you feel like he is there for you at all times. He took us snorkelling, with 75 year old Mom and 85 year old Dad and was so gentle and caring with them. I think he is a teacher/guide at heart and is one of those special people who can help you slow down time and appreciate every moment. God bless and keep you both for taking such good care of us! We are planning our return and it can not be soon enough! Jack, thank you for opening your home to us and James, thank you for your heart which you share without hesitation!
