Newport is a quiet suburb with only one through destination being Williamstown so not a great deal of traffic.
Elphin St is a peaceful street with a mixture of early Melbourne architecture, often renovated, along with a mix of properties through the decades.
There are parks and great walks nearby along with some awesome local restaurants and cafes. Newport Park and the Yarra river are pretty much at the end of the street and you can walk down to Williamstown along the Strand for shopping, meals and attractions.
Very well situated for trains and buses with Newport station being at the end of the street. As this station is the junction for trains to Werribee and Williamstown there is always a ready supply of trains heading to those destinations as well as the city. Buses also leave from next to the station to many destinations including Altona Gate shopping centre.
Access to the Westgate Freeway is 5 minutes down the road with alternate routes into the city also available.
A nice way to get into the centre of Melbourne is via the Williamstown Ferry service which travels up the Yarra under the Westgate bridge and into Berth 1 at Southgate next to the Elizabeth St walk Bridge.

We enjoyed our stay and found everything was good. Cleanliness excellent. Location of facilities very good, close to Williamstown shopping, restaurants, and the train from Newport station to Melbourne city town (no Car needed). Customer service tops
Rating as 10/10.
Beautiful property in a lovely street
The leadlight windows are a beautiful feature in every room and the property is very clean. The location is excellent with a train station at the end of the street. This was our second stay and our 2 year old daughter even said "it's like home".
Attractive, clean, comfortable cottage.
Newport Leadlight Haven was an ideal place for us to stay. It was clean and comfortable and had most facilities we needed. We would definitely recommend this property and we hope to stay here again when the three of us next come to Melbourne.
Clean, comfortable and accessible
My family and I enjoyed staying in Leadlight Haven; the early Californian Bungalow has been converted, with the front portion of the house turned into a modern, self-contained apartment that retains the period charm of the house.
While newcomers to Melbourne may not have heard of Newport, it's a picturesque suburb full of restored period homes that's remarkably close to the city, thanks to a quick train ride, with the local station within walking distance of the house.
Near the station, there are some interesting stores and a number of popular cafes.
The house is also very close to Williamstown, which has a unique, small town atmosphere with charming historic buildings, its own cafe culture and beautiful views across Port Phillip Bay.
