Eccentric, spacious, perfect vacation house.

I spent one glorious weekend with my brother and 15 friends at the Darn Barn. We realized immediately upon arrival that this place would make for an excellent time. There is plenty of room for sleeping, activities, games, etc. The beach that the house has access to is secluded and beautiful. With the many wrap around porches, the game room, and the third floor kitchen and living room, there are lots of areas in and around the house to hang out and play any variety of games and whatnot. I hope to visit the Darn Barn again!! A friend of ours who accompanied us recently beat Leukemia, went through a bout of Graft vs. Host, and was on a respirator / oxygen tanks / was extremely frail, etc., and we worried about the three floors and the long staircase to the beach. But with the amount of friends that we brought to this excellent location, he had all the assistance he needed getting up and down stairs.

Friends Reunion

  • 3 of 5

The house is very big. For Friends gateway perfect spot for two nights if you plan some party. I would not recommend families with kids , there is a lot of hiden rooms children might get lost. The house is old, do not expect something cozy. There is no direct entrance to the beach, you need to walk by someone's else property. The stairs are very dangerous even during summer i cannot imagine going back and forth ( we went for New Year's Eve)

Exactly as described in listing

  • 3 of 5

Our group stayed here for a 70.3 triathlon. It was the perfect location, only a few miles from the race venue. The size and configuration of the house suited our group nicely. Jake, the caretaker, was very helpful and accommodating. There were two minor mechanical issues during our stay that he responded to and had resolved in a few short hours. My questions about the property were answered promptly and all details regarding the contract professionally handled.

Nice home, Much nicer than the other reviews!

  • 5 of 5

So lucky this was available for a last minute 4th of July weekend away! We brought our kids and grandkids for a fun weekend! We were happy with the conditions of the home, after reading some of the reviews we were a little nervous. But you can tell the owner has been working to make things better. The carpets were clean, some rooms had new paint, new bedding and it was clean. The owner was there off and on working on remodeling other floors and was very nice and made sure we were taken care of. We had a great time visiting the towns surrounding the house and the private beach was nice if you can get over the stairs, but it was worth it. Overall it was a great weekend in a nice house for our family. Cant wait to come back again!

Wonderful Beach Stay

  • 4 of 5

We came here for a few days after my nephews graduation to spend a few days at the beach! The place was big and accomidated our large group perfectly. We liked the kitchens so that we could make our own food on the trip and even stock up the fridges. The place was clean and had a very home like feeling. Its a bit of a walk up and down the stairs to the beach but it was a good workout for the entire family. Its close to the middle of town and has beautiful views of the sunset. I would come back again in a heartbeat.

What a dump

  • 1 of 5

This place is a dump, the house is dirty filthy and it smells to high heaven. Grounds are overgrown and it is obvious that the owner doesn't care about up kept. When you walk in the first thing you see is the paneling wall ripped off the studs and the open studs are showing. The second thing is the absolutely filthy carpet going up the steps (your feet stick to carpet). The pictures in the listed must have been taken 20 years ago or someone is really good with photo shop. The so called game room had a pool table with the dirty felt and no sticks and it to was filthy. The smell when you walk in is enough to Gag a maggot. I would not let my dogs stay in this house. When we called the landlord to voice our concern all he said was " what did you expect the Hilton"
