Elegant barn (built around 1500), recently converted using carefully selected traditional materials such as handmade terracotta floor tiles and massive oak beams. Furnished in neutral tones, the house is an easy blend of fresh, contemporary style with traditional Tuscan farmhouse architecture. It consists in two double bedrooms each with bathroom, a well- equipped kitchen / dining area, and bright sitting room with open fireplace. The layout is well suited to two couples sharing a holiday , a family with 2 children or even a honeymoon couple looking for a country retreat within easy reach of Florence. Every room has spectacular views and the two generous sized terraces catch the sun, morning to evening.
Escape into rustic Chianti Rufina and enjoy the timeless pleasures of Tuscany - less than 30 minutes from Florence!
This small group of buildings was once part of the first line of defences of Renaissance Florence. Now on a working vineyard, they have been converted to create an attractive villa and apartments. Situated in a prestigious Florentine estate which produces an impressive Chianti, there is a panoramic hilltop castle within walking distance. Florence is an easy train ride away, saving the headache of city parking. For 2 people, you can choose between Cipresso, a mini apartment with kitchenette, or Alba and Vista, which both have full kitchens and separate bedroom. If you are travelling in a group of up to 4, select the tab for Villa, the converted barn with two spacious panoramic terraces, two double bedrooms and bathrooms. For larger groups, up to 7, select Antica & Cipresso. Alternatively, groups of up to 13 can rent the whole Borgo. All apartments have their own private terrace with views across the valley.
Approach Road: Please note that there is a 1km rough, farm road to approach the property. The surface of the road is in loose stone and not tarmac. Most of our guests arrive in small hire cars without problems. Ask us for more information if you are concerned.
I live at Borgo di Sopra with my family. I am English and my husband is Italian with a lifetime's knowledge of places to visit and eat throughout Tuscany. We are happy to share our knowledge with you and help you get the most out your holiday in this part of Italy. Can we offer you a glass of wine, spread out the map of Tuscany and help you draw up your itinerary?
Jane purchased this villa in 2005
Borgo di Sopra is a fabulous mix.
You truly feel away from it all, in the midst of a nature in a place of enormous beauty. There is lots of wildlife here, from deer to pheasants, hares, porcupines and all sorts of birdlife. Our apartments all look out onto the vineyards of the Castello di Nipozzano. These are cared for almost like a garden. It is wondeful to watch the passage of the seasons from winter when the vines are bare to summer when a tractor in the vineyard looks like a small boat on an ocean of green, to the autumn when the leaves turn gold. At the end of the day, everyday, the light softens and intensifies ........and it is always beautiful.
Yet, if you get in your car and drive our bumpy stone road and then the leafy country lane, in 6 minutes you find yourself in the bustling town of Pontassieve. Restaurants and shops, banks and the train station - it all feels a world away from our Borgo and yet it is so close.
At Borgo you can walk uphill to the lovely Castello di Nipozzano. There has been a castle here since 1000, and you can understand why. The position dominates the surrounding countryside. But there is also a handsome Villa from the 1700s. Its nonchalant aristocratic elegance, charms and intrigues you into wandering into the wine store, perhaps even into booking a tasting. It is worth it. The wines are impressive and the laid back, welcoming style is uniquely Tuscan.
The house lived up to its description of having spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside. It is situated half way up the hillside in the vineyard, making the approach unsuitable for cars without a reasonable ground clearance, but our hired Golf had no problem. We received a warm welcome and Jane and her husband had provided everything we could possibly require to enjoy our holiday, right down to the timetable for the train into Florence. The house is beautifully restored and has very comfortable accommodation and every mod. con. Jane and her family live in an adjacent property and Pontassieve is only about 10 minutes away so although the property has its unique setting, there is no feeling of remoteness.
The villa was beautifully presented, comfortable and well equipped.
Although very rurally located the distances to the delights of Tuscany are easily manageable for day trips.
Jane and Giampierro were very welcoming, friendly and ready to help in any way they could. The top tips for restaurants wherever we planned to visit were gratefully received.
would recommend this property for couples and families looking for a quiet relaxing holiday , who want to get away from it all.
You will need a car when staying here, but you can easily visit Florence by train.
Would return again to "recharge the batteries" in a heart beat.
Thank you Jane and Giampierro for a lovely stay 😀
We stayed at the property Villa for 9 days. Jane had given us instructions how to find the accommodation which we did with no issues. As you approach the property you just gasp at the amazing Tuscan countryside you are driving through. The property sits on a hill, rural and with a castle sitting above it. The views are simply spectacular. We got the most friendly of welcomes when we arrived. Villa/Alba has 2 floors and very spacious. You have everything you could possibly need and the place is spotlessly clean. Aircon is provided but we never used it even though the temperature was 35 degrees everyday. Villa remained cool. Jane leaves a book of info for you regarding the house and surrounding area. I would recommend going into Florence. The train takes about 29 mins and costs little more than 3euros50!
We had a wonderful time. Jane and her family are lovely. Tuscany at its beautiful peaceful best. We hope to go back. Laura and Kevin x
Borgo di Sopra - can be roughly translated as a "home away from home."
We spent a wonderful holiday here in May of 2015 and decided to return once again. The property is absolutely beautiful, the estate extremely well kept and the music of nature plays countless symphonies for guests. Rest and relaxation is practically guaranteed...but if one should need any insider tips or information, Jane and Giampiero are more than delighted to make recommendations. Their extensive knowledge of the area (even Firenze/Florence!!) is priceless: restaurants, hotspots, local favourites -- we have NEVER been disappointed!
We will definitely return again and are already missing our home away from home....and of course our little "Italian family." (-:

Amazing just can't say enough about the beauty, hospitality and the attention to detail Jane and her family were very gracious and knowledgeable and did not hesitate to assist us with any questions directions or great places to eat or visit they took the time to drive us to the train station to catch the train into Rome. Wonderful experience l would not hesitate if l was asked to return to ltaly to stay with Jane and her family.

Just returned from a two week stay @ Borgo Di Sopra . It is everything promised in the description and more. The wonderful Villa, the views, the landscape, the scent of the roses and lemon tress. Jane and her family were so accommodating, helpful and fun to be around. My friends and I had an amazing holiday in Tuscany and our home away from home was Borgo Di Sopra.

The 2 main airports in Tuscany (Pisa and Florence) are easily accessible . Short breaks are feasible all year round! You'll know you have made an escape from routine, though, when you drive down the winding approach road. You pass through vineyards with a historic castle and our property above you in the distance. You are now in the Nipozzano estate of the noble Florentine family of Frescobaldi. From your apartment, a pleasant walk, with superb views, will take you up to the castle. There the wine is aged in the historic cellars and you can taste and buy all Frescobaldi wines. Numerous other panoramic walks dot the area (the historic monastery of Vallombrosa is not far either). For renaissance culture, we are near Florence and Arezzo. Regular trains from Pontassieve station (5 minutes away) to central Florence take only 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, designer outlet discounts from Gucci, YSL, Todds etc are to be found at the Mall, outside Leccio, 15 minutes away.
Other Activities: Wine tasting.
