Vista is a detached cottage recently renovated. With picture windows across the valley, it has attractive views of extensive vineyards, distant hills and part of the town below. The unit makes an easy holiday base for two people. It consists in a large open plan living area with sofa, large dining table and kitchen, plus bathroom (with shower) and double bedroom. Air-conditioning fitted and free wifi. Outside the apartment has its own private south facing terrace, again with views across the valley.
Escape into rustic Chianti Rufina and enjoy the timeless pleasures of Tuscany - less than 30 minutes from Florence!
This small group of buildings was once part of the first line of defences of Renaissance Florence. Now on a working vineyard, they have been converted to create an attractive villa and apartments. Situated in a prestigious Florentine estate which produces an impressive Chianti, there is a panoramic hilltop castle within walking distance. Florence is an easy train ride away, saving the headache of city parking. For 2 people, you can choose between Cipresso, a mini apartment with kitchenette, or Alba and Vista, which both have full kitchens and separate bedroom. If you are travelling in a group of up to 4, select the tab for Villa, the converted barn with two spacious panoramic terraces, two double bedrooms and bathrooms. For larger groups, up to 7, select Antica & Cipresso. Alternatively, groups of up to 13 can rent the whole Borgo. All apartments have their own private terrace with views across the valley.
Approach Road: Please note that there is a 1km rough, farm road to approach the property. The surface of the road is in loose stone and not tarmac. Most of our guests arrive in small hire cars without problems. Ask us for more information if you are concerned.
I live at Borgo di Sopra with my family. I am English and my husband is Italian with a lifetime's knowledge of places to visit and eat throughout Tuscany. We are happy to share our knowledge with you and help you get the most out your holiday in this part of Italy. Can we offer you a glass of wine, spread out the map of Tuscany and help you draw up your itinerary?
Jane purchased this bungalow in 2005
Borgo di Sopra is a fabulous mix.
You truly feel away from it all, in the midst of a nature in a place of enormous beauty. There is lots of wildlife here, from deer to pheasants, hares, porcupines and all sorts of birdlife. Our apartments all look out onto the vineyards of the Castello di Nipozzano. These are cared for almost like a garden. It is wondeful to watch the passage of the seasons from winter when the vines are bare to summer when a tractor in the vineyard looks like a small boat on an ocean of green, to the autumn when the leaves turn gold. At the end of the day, everyday, the light softens and intensifies ........and it is always beautiful.
Yet, if you get in your car and drive our bumpy stone road and then the leafy country lane, in 6 minutes you find yourself in the bustling town of Pontassieve. Restaurants and shops, banks and the train station - it all feels a world away from our Borgo and yet it is so close.
At Borgo you can walk uphill to the lovely Castello di Nipozzano. There has been a castle here since 1000, and you can understand why. The position dominates the surrounding countryside. But there is also a handsome Villa from the 1700s. Its nonchalant aristocratic elegance, charms and intrigues you into wandering into the wine store, perhaps even into booking a tasting. It is worth it. The wines are impressive and the laid back, welcoming style is uniquely Tuscan.
All rates include bed and bath linens and final cleaning.
Air conditioning is available in this apartment but is not included in the rental fee. When opting to use aircon, electricity consumption is payable according to start/end meter readings applying the electricity supplier's own rates.
A 40% deposit is required to secure a booking, with the balance payable on or before arrival.
My husband and I stayed in the Vista apartment in April. It was lovely! The apartment was very clean and tidy. The bed and pillows were super comfy! The kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook a meal. The location was perfect for catching the train to Florence or driving to nearby villages and Sienna. We were only able to stay 4 short days but Jane was a wonderful host and provided a wealth of information about the area. We are already planning a return trip!
Everything about our stay at Borgo di Sopra far exceeded our expectations. The amenities were first class through out . The bed was very comfortable. But beyond that the property was incredible, as it is a beautifully restored 500 year old stone manor located on a hillside in the middle of a vineyard, below a castle converted into a winery. The hosts are gracious and provided great suggestions for day trips as well as tips for the best restaurants locally and in Florence. We are definitely going to return as this was the highlight of our tour of Italy.
First, Jane and her husband are excellent hosts and we enjoyed the opportunities we had to visit with them. They provided us excellent advise on where to visit and the hillside drives of interest. As we are big history buffs we listened intently to their advise. Magnificent views of the surrounding area greet you at every turn. And the peacefulness is so sweet.
Second, the apartment Alba was perfect for us. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom is very sizeable. We love to cook and eat in and Alba was well furnished for us, including a large refrigerator. The supermarket in town had everything one could desire. Speaking of town, the apt is in the countryside but only about 7 minutes from town where you can park the car and take a train into Florence (or other nearby cities), thus avoiding parking issues in the big city. And if you drive into the hills, the beautiful drives are amazing.
We truly hope we can return one day to stay in this perfect Tuscan home again. We feel so lucky we were able to do so (and you will too!).
It is almost too hard to describe the fabulous time we had here. We rented Vista for four days as the first half of our honeymoon. We could not have planned it better, after spending a week with our whole families and then of course the excitement of the actual wedding, this beautiful place offered us all the quiet, comfort, beauty and relaxation one could ever hope for! My husband, a chef, and I explored the coop and bought so much wonderful food and prepared it right there in our own very well stocked and maintained kitchen. The owners, what can I say about them? We felt like we were visiting with great friends and we were very sad to leave them when we left...we have pictures that we cherish of them and their lovely pets Jasmine and Peggy. We cannot recommend staying here enough and we are already trying to plan another trip but with the whole family this time!
We chose Borgo di Sopra for the views and location and discovered everything else was delightful and perfect. The buildings have been exquisitely renovated in the traditional style and are a delight to live in. We appreciated the easy train trip to Florence, exploring the local wineries and the historic towns as well as evening walks through the surrounding vineyards. Jane & Giampiero were wonderful hosts. We concur with all the other positive reviews. Our only challenge was poor internet connection in Vista.
We spent a truly wonderful week in Vista in July. The accommodation is extremely well equipped, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and the views from the terrace are simply amazing. However, the difference between this and other holiday accommodation is undoubtedly the hosts Jane and Giampiero who are extremely welcoming and hospitable and who went out of their way to make our stay special and who provided lots of useful and interesting information of the surrounding area. We would highly recommend this accommodation.
The 2 main airports in Tuscany (Pisa and Florence) are easily accessible . Short breaks are feasible all year round! You'll know you have made an escape from routine, though, when you drive down the winding approach road. You pass through vineyards with a historic castle and our property above you in the distance. You are now in the Nipozzano estate of the noble Florentine family of Frescobaldi. From your apartment, a pleasant walk, with superb views, will take you up to the castle. There the wine is aged in the historic cellars and you can taste and buy all Frescobaldi wines. Numerous other panoramic walks dot the area (the historic monastery of Vallombrosa is not far either). For renaissance culture, we are near Florence and Arezzo. Regular trains from Pontassieve station (5 minutes away) to central Florence take only 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, designer outlet discounts from Gucci, YSL, Todds etc are to be found at the Mall, outside Leccio, 15 minutes away.
Other Activities: Wine tasting.
