Red Fox Retreat is one of three, 400 square foot cabins on our property that back up to the Future Headwaters State Forest. This ensures that we have few neighbors and plenty of wildlife. This cabin has a small deck with two adirondack chairs perfect for relaxing beneath the trees and taking in plenty of fresh air. Inside you'll find a living room with high ceilings and lots of windows that look out into the forest. It has a comfy couch, TV and has Wifi. It's also furnished with a small dining table and chairs. The kitchen, although small, comes fully equipped to make a meal. It has a coffee maker, full sized appliances, dishes and some cookware. The bathroom has a good sized shower and plenty of fresh, white towels and hairdryer. Down the hall, you'll find stairs that lead up to the loft space that overlooks the living area. This second bedroom space has low ceilings and comes equipped with two twin beds. It's perfect for kids or agile adults. ***We do not make the twin beds up for parties fewer than 3 unless requested. Please let us know prior to your arrival if you want them made up.*** ***Loft not suitable for toddlers.*** Downstairs in the main bedroom, hidden behind curtains, you'll find a small washer and dryer which comes in handy if you have more activities planned than you have clothes for. The bed is queen sized and comes with a fresh quilt and sheets that are washed after every guest. We pride ourselves on our fresh, clean linens. The bed has drawers underneath for storage and the bedroom has a large closet as well. The bedroom also has a door with lock so that it can be closed off from the rest of the cabin for privacy. Outside you will find three separate fire pit areas perfect for star gazing or roasting marshmallows!
Sleeps 4 in the forest!

About Melissa Kilgore
We are Jason and Melissa Kilgore. We met one day back in 2001 and 92 days later, we were married. We are the best of friends and love doing things together, especially traveling and exploring this beautiful world of ours. A good cup of coffee in the morning, fresh air, the sounds of nature, playing outside and enjoying a glass of wine, at the end of the day, these things put smiles on our faces when we are home or traveling. We have traveled to Europe where we did what we call the big 3, Rome, Venice and Paris. We have also traveled to Belize twice, Costa Rica twice and Cozumel twice. We love to scuba dive and so these destinations were repeaters for us. We recently returned from a 6 week camping adventure to visit 12 national parks. We don't sit still when we travel which is probably why we don't call our adventures "vacations." We call them "expeditions." We usually carry a lot of camera gear and scuba gear with us. We love meeting people and making new friends when we travel and host. We believe life is short, there are no guarantees and you should enjoy as much of it as you can, while you can.

Why Melissa Kilgore chose Brevard
We LOVE this area! We love to hike and mountain bike and so it was perfect for us. We used to come here every weekend and now we are lucky enough to live here. Brevard is a town that provides everything we need without being too big. We chose to live away from town to be more in nature but town is only a 15-20 minute drive!
What makes this Cabin unique
The driveway is long and takes you away from the main road which we really love because it makes us feel like we have our own little getaway. We back up to the future Headwaters State Forest so we take comfort in the fact that we will always have few neighbors and plenty of wildlife. We prefer small indoor living spaces and large outdoor spaces!

This house was perfect for 4 of us to get away for a few days.
The house was planned out well and there was more space than I expected to have, even with 4 people. The house was clean and had a new feel. The night sky is beautiful and the stars are very visible because there’s not much light pollution, which was awesome for me as a photographer. We loved our stay here!
Cabin was cozy, clean and great towels!
I was here searching for property and stayed here, totally enjoying my stay, everything I expected it to be. The property and the cabins are in a great location and easily accessible. I highly recommend this retreat in nature!
This was the best weekend at the Red Fox Retreat. The cabin had everything we needed and more! The location was secluded, which is what we wanted, and perfect for stargazing. The fire pits were so fun and even though it was in the 30s we enjoyed being outside and sitting by the fire. Melissa was so accommodating with some weather issues and allowed us a late check out on Sunday. Highly highly recommend this to anyone wanting to go to Brevard but also be tucked away in the mountains.
Just like last year the property was very nice, and felt very warm and cozy
We had a great time exploring all the waterfalls near by and being able to relax in a quite and cozy cabin. Melissa is incredibly awesome at what she does and super accommodating for any request you can come up with to ask. The property was very well kept and was a pleasure to stay at. We stayed in two cabins during our stay and we enjoyed them both! This was our 2nd year in a row staying here and im pretty sure we'll be back again this year for a 3rd time.
Tranquil get away
The cabin was beautifully built and customized! More amenities than expected and little goodies throughout! Close to attractions and hiking without being too far from necessities.
I want to move here!!!! Loved our stay!! <3
This was our first VRBO experience and we couldn't be more pleased. The owners were extremely responsive (within 5 mins max) anytime I would send a message, and the little treats upon our arrival were super yummy. It made for a warm welcome!
The cabin itself was just perfect; clean, cozy, spacious enough, and exactly what we needed. Even though we didn't sleep in the loft, we did spend some time up there looking out the window for bears. Sadly, lol, we never saw any...I guess that's a good thing in the end. You can tell the owners put a lot of pride into their cabins, as well as the fire pit area, which we LOVED!! We made 2 fires while there, making s'mores which was the perfect way to relax after doing some hiking.
Location was also great! It's far enough away from tons of people, yet a short 15 min drive to the downtown area of Brevard, grocery stores, etc. Also close to the Dupont Forest, and I highly recommend the Triple Falls, High Falls, and Hooker Falls waterfalls, so so beautiful!! Another gorgeous area is the Pisgah National Forest!!! We really want to come back again when it's warmer and set up our hammocks by the water and just chill!!
We loved our stay and can't thank Melissa & Jason enough! =)
Awwww! We loved having you guys! I’m glad you guys enjoyed your first VRBO experience. Sorry you didn’t get to see any bears. Maybe next time!
