Centrally located in the heart of north end with city views and walking distance to the ocean and best restaurants in the city. Minutes from Faniuel Hall, the freedom trail, Paul Reveres house, the Boston Garden and more. Roof deck too! 5 min walk to subway . 5 minute cab ride to the airport. Washer and dryer in unit. Kitchen, living room, two bedrooms. Quiet building steps from all the city has to offer.
We were 2 couples here for the Marathon and were lucky to get this place.
Pluses: Clean and comfortable, and by far the best location in Boston. Very livable. 10 minute walk to the underground (i.e. the "T"),and a 2 minute walk to about 25 great restaurants and bakeries. Lots of history in the whole area. The rooftop is an awesome little retreat/happy hour spot, with stunning views. Comfortable beds. Patrick is pretty flexible. Super quiet, almost zero city noise.
Minuses: Not many, although if you are looking for swanky, new, and luxurious, this probably isn’t your place. Also, the furniture on the roof is pretty old and shabby, although it’s likely shared by all 4 apartments in the building and I don't know what Patrick could do about that.
All in all, highly recommended.
Great location, can walk most anywhere you want to go and if it is too far, there is always the subway and commuter train. 4 women, ages 52 - 72 - we all felt very safe in walking the neighborhood, alone or together, even at night.
When we got there the place had not been cleaned and only three chairs in the kitchen even though we had previously confirmed there would be four. Patrick took care of the cleaning while we were out the day we arrived. The fourth chair was delivered a couple days later.
We found the place very comfortable. It is four flights of narrow stairs to climb. The worst part was getting the suitcases up and down. Beyond that there was no problem with the stairs. We usually left in the morning and returned in the evening. Some nights, we left again later and had to climb again. View from the roof at night was very beautiful.
We ran into a problem at the end of our stay as our flight was later in the day. We were allowed to leave our luggage and was able to pick it up later, which was very nice. Not sure what we were going to do with it. Originally there was no one scheduled to move in the day we left either.
Just returned from a very relaxing long weekend in Boston.
What a wonderful location. Great neighborhood. Restaurants, bars, quirky boutiques - all available after a very short walk. Great base from which to explore Boston.
Very comfortable for 4 adults. Beds were very comfortable, apartment was quiet. Some previous reviews have complained about the stairs... It was certainly a steep climb, but manageable, even for this fat old man. Unfortunately, the extra exercise did not make a serious dent in the calories we consumed at the various local establishments we visited. Weather permitting, the roof deck was a wonderful place after a long day of trekking about the city.
Hope this is available next time we visit the Boston area.
This apartment is well equipped! It is located in the North end on an amazing street in little Italy. There are tons of awesome restaurants and bakeries and shops to chose from. We were able to walk to many sites such as the Freedom trail, the Old Church, Paul Reveres house, TD Gardens, Quincys Market and Faneill Hall to name a few and a 5 minute walk to the Harbour that has amazing restaurants, touring information and boat excursions. It was a short cab ride to Fenway Park and Harvard University. We highly recommend staying at this apartment if you want to see all major attractions in Boston. The owner is great and everything mentioned in the ad is true. If you are looking to do sight seeing in Boston you will not be disappointed in the apartment and the area. We enjoyed our weekend in Boston ALOT and the apartment and its location played a major role in that! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
This was a fantastic apartment on many levels and I would stay there again. Excellent neighborhood, great views of the Old North Church, 1/2 block from the Freedom Trail, walking distance to all historic sights and sites, excellent views from the terrace, well-stocked kitchen (knives, cookware, etc.), large living room and kitchen (for Boston), great price, and the owner is responsive and easy to work with.
I don't know Boston well, but this has to be one of the best neighborhoods for tourists. Safe, great restaurants, historic buildings everywhere, easy walk to famous places.
One of the best moments of our stay was sipping wine with my husband on the terrace under a crescent moon with the North Church steeple and all of Boston in front of us.
Four stars instead of five (I would have marked 4 1/2 if allowed) because there are some caveats:
*The stairs are narrow and steep and anyone with mobility problems should not rent the apartment. Patrick says this in the listing, but it should be repeated. By the way, those stairs do not negate the calories from all of the excellent bakeries and restaurants in the area (that was my theory and I was wrong).
* The furniture arrangement is a little odd. (The beds were very comfortable.) No nightstand in one of the bedrooms, no coffee table in the otherwise excellent living room. There is a storage box that you have to sneak around to get to the terrace. Terrace furniture is old and worn. (The kitchen is wonderful.)
*The cleaners stopped halfway through cleaning the apartment for some reason, so things were not perfect on arrival (reading through reviews I saw this happened only to one other renter). HOWEVER, the bathroom, kitchen floor and counters, all showed that the apartment is deep cleaned often. This is a tidy apartment. And Patrick responded immediately when we texted him about the problem on arrival.
Overall -- highly recommended.
Still relaxed from our 5 day stay in the North End of Boston. What a great area - loads of reasonably priced restaurants with delicious food served with character. The neighborhood retains its city-neighborhood-Italian feel, even though there is renovation going on. Lots of small food stands with great fruits and vegetables. Historic sights and the Freedom Trail right at your door step. A short walk to Quincy Market, TD Garden (we saw skating championship). I took a run every morning along the Harbor then turned up to the Back Bay and round back. Enjoyed lunch on our roof top overlooking the steeple of Old North Church with the modern city skyline behind. The restaurants open to the street, which makes great people watching, as Bostonians walked home from their offices just as we would sit for dinner. I like to experience a city as the residents do. It is so vibrant. The apartment itself is very simply decorated, with no carpets or wall hangings to warm it up and it is sparsely furnished; however, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Kitchen has enough plates and utensils to make easy food preparation. Microwave, coffee makers, full fridge, appliances. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. The rooms are spacious enough so your not on top of each other. Our internet was down, but after notifying Patrick, the issue was quickly resolved. The bathroom is large, hot water, clean linens and a washer/dryer which came in handy. The fact is, the apartment is exactly as advertised and we became quite attached to our home away. To clarify other reviews, the white couch is gone. You do have to walk up steps, which Patrick clearly discloses - he says its on the 4th floor on his page! This is a classic North End apartment in an old brick building. That's what makes it authentic. It's smack in the middle of one of America's oldest neighborhoods! And, after a walk up steps, the roof deck is your reward, as is the view from the living room. The apartment is in an area experiencing renovation so expect some construction (in Boston expect it everywhere) -it never interrupted our enjoyment; it was fun to observe what people were doing to their homes. I do not understand some reviews, as this was exactly as advertised. Patrick is a reliable host, it is very clean, utilitarian unit which provided us with a safe, fun, relaxing experience, centrally located in a really fun city. Thank you Patrick for a memorable time!
