Peaceful rural property with magnificent views, cosy wood fire and farm animals.
“Camphill" as it has been known in the district since 1860 - is not just a farm stay - it’s an echo of a time zone - one of confident simplicity, dramatic landscapes and birdsong chorus. Situated a five minute drive from the cafes, wineries, restaurants, antique shops and old pubs of historic Rylstone, it is the ideal option for those seeking peace, privacy, space and authenticity. We offer two houses with accommodation on a 60 acre horse establishment - Camphill Homestead and Camphill Cottage.
This charming, rustic cottage offers two queen size bedrooms and a large mezzanine loft with three single beds, and a sofa bed in a small reading room (sleeping a total of eight).
All beds are endowed with quality manchester and electric blankets. The large living area is equipped with a cosy wood fire and reverse cycle air conditioner. A glass enclosed verandah on the northern side looks out over a large dam to the mountains and at sunset will still the buzziest mind. The eastern verandah looks toward original haysheds and horse stables from a bygone era.
Camphill Homestead is situated on a horse establishment where horses graze the green paddocks bound by post and rail fencing. The property dates back to the 1860s and had it’s origins as a Cobb & Co blacksmith’s shop forging horse shoes, farm implements, carriage wheels and tools necessary for life in the Central West. The original stone “blacksmith’s forge” still stands to this day located on the 60 acre property.
Established gardens are a mixture of native and deciduous trees and plants providing shade and habitat for native fauna such as wombats, wallabies and native birdlife.
Camphill offers accommodation for large groups with the recent listing of both Camphill Cottage and Camphill Homestead (please see listing for Camphill) sleeping a total of 16 for large groups, family gatherings, holidays, or any excuse to get together and recharge.

Spacious lovingly decorated and furnished home with spacious bedrooms and L shaped vast sunroom with daybed, reading chairs and breakfast setting.
The very well equipped kitchen is a pleasure to cook a good meal in and the dining table and lounge room make a stay comfortable and enjoyable.
We were two couples and enjoyed the vast spaces and ample seating options to such an extend that we rather spend our time here drinking the good wines we sampled and bought in the Mudgee region as well as near bye wineries.
Janet greated us with fresh bread and self-made jam, which was a real treat.
The property is well above our expectations in terms of comfort size and location, where else do you see a grazing horse when looking through the bedroom window...
Thanks for the lovely review Xenia. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and your friends. It's really a privilege to provide a space where people can switch off the city static and enjoy what nature provides here in spades. Don't hesitate to make contact any time you feel like escaping the city - would be my pleasure to host you again.
Wonderful authentic farm stay
Wow. Our stay was incredible. Janet welcomed us so warmly, fresh bread, flowers, kids feeding the horses, great farm history and showing us all around the property, her dressage experience, all the stories about the horses, tips about where to go/what to do. Our kids can’t stop talking about the holiday and it was unanimous, we are coming back and for longer. Janet’s generosity extended to sharing her amazing yummy vege garden and delightful recipes and cooking. Miss you and the farm already Janet. Planning for next time.
The 4.30pm "feed up" of all the horses the day you all left was nowhere near as much fun.....I think the horses also missed the kids who are so generous with the carrots, pats, attention, and sparkle. You are all such wonderful vibrant company. My thoughts? come back for a winter bonfire and really enjoy those crisp starry nights.....(and maybe some more caramelised figs and marscapone). Thanks so much for the review and look forward to seeing your lovely faces at Camphill again soon.
Gorgeous rustic cottage
The cottage is lovely and comfortable, and Janet went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The kids loved feeding and patting the horses. We hope to go back.
Thanks for taking the time to write this review Narelle. I am so glad the kids got a little more courageous and familiar with "country life" with each day's experience. Such a great time for them to learn about farm routines, animal feeding chores and their relationship to the environment. Look forward to your next visit.
A very inviting cottage
We had a lovely break at Janet’s cottage. The cottage was very comfortable - lots of comfy couches and chairs to read in, sunshine coming in the verandah windows and lovely bed linen. Janet herself made us feel very welcome! She responded to my emails prior to our visit with great detail. She told us about all the best places to visit in the area, and touched base with us during our stay to make sure we were settled. A lovely owner and a sweet little cottage to recharge in!! Thanks Janet
It was a pleasure to meet you and your family and even better to hear that your experience of the cottage was so relaxing. Thank you for leaving the cottage so tidy. The cottage is always here for a family "recalibrate" whenever the demands of city life overwhelm. And thank you so much for taking the time to write this review.
Camphill Cottage is perfect for a relaxing break from the city. It’s rustic yet beautiful with fantastic views & horses in nearby paddocks. One can unwind as soon you step into the cottage. Janet was the perfect host, sending through all the information about what to do & where to go whilst in the area before our visit. On arrival, the cottage had beautiful flowers, the fridge & pantry stocked with essentials including freshly baked bread from the bakery & lovely chocolate. We all loved this place including our 3 daughters in their late teens. We had also taken our dog with us & Janet made us all feel very comfortable. This place is great for all. Thank you Janet for for a wonderful week. We will be back.
It was such a pleasure to host you and your beautiful family Claire (including Benj). I'd also like to thank you for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy. I hope the relaxing recharge lasts for all of you as the year cranks into gear in the big smoke. If it all gets too much, you know where to come. Horses, Othello and Shona will be waiting under their tree. Looking forward to seeing you all again.
