Sitting at the end of a long white clam shell driveway, this idyllic retreat nestles close to the Chesapeake Shore.
A classic Eastern Shore farmhouse, first mentioned in historical records of 1654 as part of the original Jamestown colony, it has been well maintained over the centuries and lovingly restored in recent years.
The accommodation comprises the Farmhouse and the Cottage - fifty yards apart - together they provide six bedrooms with six bathrooms and can very comfortably accommodate twelve plus.
The Farmhouse features two spacious living rooms winged with a screened porch opening to the long vistas of the Onancock River and Finney's Creek. There are three bedrooms arranged as a master suite with king size bed, a middle room with two twins and the over-kitchen bedroom with two doubles. There is a total of four bathrooms plus outside shower. A fully equipped kitchen opens onto the deck and features a picture window seat dining area and center island and bar stools.
The cozy Cottage has it's own sun porch and a lovely deck that overlooks the creek, along with a comfortable living room and three bedrooms - arranged as a master double bedroom and two twins upstairs with shared bathroom, and another two twin bedroom downstairs with it's own bathroom. The cottage also has a fully equipped kitchen which opens onto the deck.
In this tranquil location there is an endless range of activities to be enjoyed. Swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing or try your hand at crabbing off the thirty foot dock.
It is an area of outstanding natural beauty where wildlife abounds and there are always flowers in bloom whatever the season - the grounds are carefully maintained and include vegetable, herb and flower gardens.
The Farmhouse and Cottage offer a vacation that gives the very best that the Eastern Shore has to offer. Modern facilities in a landscape that has not changed in hundreds of years and in which you can truly relax and enjoy your life.
We had a lovely time at your place. It is a gracious and interesting place both inside and out. I still have visions of the beach trees framing the river, the river often dotted with swimmers and kayakers from our group. I have a memory of my 90 year old mother swinging in the rope swing. The swing in itself brought back memories, the give and tug of a rope swing on a tree branch has a rhythm unmatched by metal contrivances. I can say so much more. For one thing, your kitchen worked so well for our large group and the massive amount of cooking and baking that went on. And the crepe myrtle drive! We biked, kayaked, swam went to Tangiers Island and Assateague, celebrated a 90th birthday, a 20th birthday, a former wedding that still needed a cake and just general being alive in beauty.
This is a wonderful old house (plus cottage) in a beautiful setting right on the Chesapeake Bay. The number of BRs/beds and bathrooms make handling a large group like ours (12 people) very easy to do. Very functional and well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of parking, and easy access to Onancock. We have rented the property three times and have two more scheduled. It's great!
I was amazed by this property and have grown up around the corner from it when I was a child. It has a whole different and amazing view of the water including the side house! The kitchen and rooms are vary spacious and charming with an old farmhouse feel. The screened in porch was even perfect for the day it rained and the kids loved the big yard to explore and play soccer. It was also a great place for hosting a cookout and lots of space for a big family to stay. The property manager was so friendly and accommodating as well! It was amazing place to visit and get away from the craziness of life. I would definitely like to visit again and would highly recommend it!
Our family of twelve gathered at Tucker's House from Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia for a Thanksgiving retreat in November 2015. We thoroughly enjoyed preparing our Thanksgiving feast in the well stocked kitchen of the main house. The main house is beautifully situated and commands a perfect view of Parkers Creek which can be many ways (from the deck, the large screened porch, or from out on the dock. Both houses were very clean are were comfortably furnished (including a library with many interesting books). The property is amazingly quiet and private, yet it is only a 10-15 minute drive to the charming village of Onancock. Tucker and his local property manger, Jimmy, provided excellent customer service at all stages of our booking. Per our request, they made arrangements for us to rent some additional kayaks so we could enjoy the activity as a group. The weather was spectacular our entire stay, which made this place ever so more special. I recommend Tucker's Onancock property wholeheartedly for anyone wanting to get away, reconnect, explore a new place, and enjoy the treasure of Virginia's Eastern Shore.
My family went to Onanacock for Labor Day Weekend. It was one of the most peaceful, beautiful places I've ever been. We had a crab feast on Saturday night - Jimmy, the caretaker, let one of the neighbors know we wanted to catch some crabs but hadn't - and the neighbor brought over a bushel of steamed fresh crabs! Can't wait to go back...it's a wonderful place to unwind!
Our family of four grandparents, four parents, and four children ranging in age fro 9 months to 11 years had a lovely time. The space is large enough for everyone to be comfortably together (or apart) and not to worry about the kids' whereabouts. We swam, kayaked, fished, crabbed, and just lounged around outside and on the screened in porch! The views are spectacular and the setting is serene. The owner was very responsive in advance of the trip and we got a call the day before departure from Jimmy with check in instructions. Our only minor complaints: the upstairs bathroom in the main house is moldy, and bugs were vicious this time a year, so the kids are covered in bites. Other than that, we had a near perfect 4 days! Thank you!
We had an incredible time at Tucker's house - the property is immaculately kept, the views are amazing, and the house was perfect for accommodating our group. Can't wait to come back, and will /definitely/ be recommending the property to our friends.
Thank you, Tucker and Jimmy - you guys are the best!
