Sitting at the end of a long white clam shell driveway, this idyllic retreat nestles close to the Chesapeake Shore.
A classic Eastern Shore farmhouse, first mentioned in historical records of 1654 as part of the original Jamestown colony, it has been well maintained over the centuries and lovingly restored in recent years.
The accommodation comprises the Farmhouse and the Cottage - fifty yards apart - together they provide six bedrooms with six bathrooms and can very comfortably accommodate twelve plus.
The Farmhouse features two spacious living rooms winged with a screened porch opening to the long vistas of the Onancock River and Finney's Creek. There are three bedrooms arranged as a master suite with king size bed, a middle room with two twins and the over-kitchen bedroom with two doubles. There is a total of four bathrooms plus outside shower. A fully equipped kitchen opens onto the deck and features a picture window seat dining area and center island and bar stools.
The cozy Cottage has it's own sun porch and a lovely deck that overlooks the creek, along with a comfortable living room and three bedrooms - arranged as a master double bedroom and two twins upstairs with shared bathroom, and another two twin bedroom downstairs with it's own bathroom. The cottage also has a fully equipped kitchen which opens onto the deck.
In this tranquil location there is an endless range of activities to be enjoyed. Swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing or try your hand at crabbing off the thirty foot dock.
It is an area of outstanding natural beauty where wildlife abounds and there are always flowers in bloom whatever the season - the grounds are carefully maintained and include vegetable, herb and flower gardens.
The Farmhouse and Cottage offer a vacation that gives the very best that the Eastern Shore has to offer. Modern facilities in a landscape that has not changed in hundreds of years and in which you can truly relax and enjoy your life.
We had a lovely time at your place. It is a gracious and interesting place both inside and out. I still have visions of the beach trees framing the river, the river often dotted with swimmers and kayakers from our group. I have a memory of my 90 year old mother swinging in the rope swing. The swing in itself brought back memories, the give and tug of a rope swing on a tree branch has a rhythm unmatched by metal contrivances. I can say so much more. For one thing, your kitchen worked so well for our large group and the massive amount of cooking and baking that went on. And the crepe myrtle drive! We biked, kayaked, swam went to Tangiers Island and Assateague, celebrated a 90th birthday, a 20th birthday, a former wedding that still needed a cake and just general being alive in beauty.
Rented this house for our wedding ceremony and party in June 2016. The location is wonderful and beautiful. Enjoyed crabbing and the bay view. I love our wedding pictures from there! The house is old but does has its own charm.
Usually, old does not mean dirty. However, it is not about this property! The house was really unclean. Piece of onion sticked to the stove. Stains on carpets, pillows, pillow cases, blankets, sheets. Also, we have found dog hair on some pillows. There was pieces of food inside of microwave, dirty dishes in dishwashing machine. Spills, nasty spots, open and used jam jar and a hair (!) in the fridge etc etc etc..
So I called to property manager - Jimmy- and explained everything and asked if somebody can come, clean the house and change sheets. Nevertheless, Jimmy said that the house have been recently cleaned. Also, he said it is not his problem that some of the guests use sunscreen lotion and it leaves stains on sheets. He said that it is too expansive to buy new bed linen for every guest (for your information - bed linen that they had was really old... just saying). Okay, so I asked him if there are any other solutions he can offer. Jimmy suggested to call property owner. So I did. However, the owner said that he is outside of the state and can not help right now and offered me to contact the property manager. (Yes! I did and Jimmy said to call you! Ehhh..Can anyone there fix problems??) Also, the property owner said that he can not resolve problems while he is on the phone with me. So I should hung up so he can call the manager (oh such a very professional customer service!!).
I am sorry for being sarcastic but none of them even apologized to us for those issues. The only thing we have been finally offered is ask cleaning person to come and clean one more time the FOLLOWING DAY! Not even the same day (before our guests came).
Eventually, we ended up cleaning by ourselves, bought new bed linen (thank God there is Walmart 10 mins away).
Location - great
House - beautiful
Outside - gorgeous
Cleanliness - awful
Management - unprofessional
Problem solving - poor
Six adults, and two dogs stayed at "The Farm" for Thanksgiving, and had a wonderful time. I felt right at home as soon as we drove down the long lane. Jimmy, who takes care of the place was there, and that was nice to meet and talk to him. It couldn't have been any better for us. The dogs could run around without any worry of neighbors, or roads, or anything else. The water was right in front of us, which we loved kayaking on, and spending time on the dock. We used the fire pit everyday, and loved that also. My husband and I stayed in the oldest bedroom section with it's fantastic view through the really interesting and pretty windows. The only thing that could be improved upon would be the stove, as it was a little hard to see what the temps were. But even with Thanksgiving dinner being made, that was a small thing compared to the gorgeous view and location. We have already been thinking of when we could go back in warmer weather. It was also so quiet, that was wonderful. My husband is an avid astronomer, and other than one light across the creek, it was pretty dark. We hit some cloudy weather, but I can only imagine how wonderful it would be on a moonlit night!
Second time at this house. Love the setting and historical charm!
My family and I had so good of a time staying at the Robbins property that it was very tough to leave. The house is a beautiful old property with plenty of space and a great kitchen, but the view from the deck and dock was magnificent. Every morning and evening, we had fantastic views of the sunrise and sunset and, luckily, the rise of the harvest moon in the East. We enjoyed kayaking in the local bay, bike riding around the property, long walks, and the local town of Onancock had nice restaurants and, of course, fantastic seafood. We took boat rides out into the Chesapeake Bay and Tangier Island, and day trips to Assateague Island and the magnificent beaches there. There was a lot more we could of done, but that will have to wait until next time.
After staying several days at the Robbins house, enjoying the beautiful views and the absence of noise except for the occasional boat motor, it seemed like years of the stress of city life melted away from all of us. I would love to return to this property again. I would highly recommend it for families of all ages.
This is a wonderful old house (plus cottage) in a beautiful setting right on the Chesapeake Bay. The number of BRs/beds and bathrooms make handling a large group like ours (12 people) very easy to do. Very functional and well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of parking, and easy access to Onancock. We have rented the property three times and have two more scheduled. It's great!
I was amazed by this property and have grown up around the corner from it when I was a child. It has a whole different and amazing view of the water including the side house! The kitchen and rooms are vary spacious and charming with an old farmhouse feel. The screened in porch was even perfect for the day it rained and the kids loved the big yard to explore and play soccer. It was also a great place for hosting a cookout and lots of space for a big family to stay. The property manager was so friendly and accommodating as well! It was amazing place to visit and get away from the craziness of life. I would definitely like to visit again and would highly recommend it!
