About the property

Farmhouse 3 bedrooms, Cottage 3 bedrooms, 6 Bathrooms, Sleeps 12+

Sitting at the end of a long white clam shell driveway, this idyllic retreat nestles close to the Chesapeake Shore.

A classic Eastern Shore farmhouse, first mentioned in historical records of 1654 as part of the original Jamestown colony, it has been well maintained over the centuries and lovingly restored in recent years.

The accommodation comprises the Farmhouse and the Cottage - fifty yards apart - together they provide six bedrooms with six bathrooms and can very comfortably accommodate twelve plus.

The Farmhouse features two spacious living rooms winged with a screened porch opening to the long vistas of the Onancock River and Finney's Creek. There are three bedrooms arranged as a master suite with king size bed, a middle room with two twins and the over-kitchen bedroom with two doubles. There is a total of four bathrooms plus outside shower. A fully equipped kitchen opens onto the deck and features a picture window seat dining area and center island and bar stools.

The cozy Cottage has it's own sun porch and a lovely deck that overlooks the creek, along with a comfortable living room and three bedrooms - arranged as a master double bedroom and two twins upstairs with shared bathroom, and another two twin bedroom downstairs with it's own bathroom. The cottage also has a fully equipped kitchen which opens onto the deck.

In this tranquil location there is an endless range of activities to be enjoyed. Swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing or try your hand at crabbing off the thirty foot dock.

It is an area of outstanding natural beauty where wildlife abounds and there are always flowers in bloom whatever the season - the grounds are carefully maintained and include vegetable, herb and flower gardens.

The Farmhouse and Cottage offer a vacation that gives the very best that the Eastern Shore has to offer. Modern facilities in a landscape that has not changed in hundreds of years and in which you can truly relax and enjoy your life.

Going Home

  • 5 of 5

We have been to the "Farm" about eight times. As always, this time was fabulous. The house is wonderful with several spaces in which large groups can gather, a well-stocked kitchen, and clean and comfortable bedrooms. The setting is quite spectacular with a view out to Parker's Creek and beyond to the Chesapeake Bay. As kayakers we appreciate the easy access to the Bay (the home has a launch ramp) and the quick trip over to the Atlantic Ocean at Metompkin Inlet. The whole experience is incredibly relaxing and several members of our group commented that when they walk into the house, they feel like they have arrived home. We'll continue to come back to this great retreat.

Owner's Response: Thank you Rick! Your experience is the gift of our grand parents and our mother's wish to provide a sanctuary, a home away from the hustle & bustle. The siting is especially auspicious for kayakers and lovers of nature. My family is grateful to you for leading tours into the unique ecology of Virginia's Eastern Shore. Come back soon! Tucker

This property was exactly what we were looking for- a secluded family get-away with phenomenal views

  • 5 of 5

The property has rustic charm. Plenty of space for a large, yet intimate gathering. The views throughout the home were beautiful. The kitchen had plenty of cookware, and room, which was perfect for our large family Thanksgiving dinner. The farm was perfect for children as well. Our three young children loved playing inside, and outside, of the house. The home was filled with perfect surprises for the children. The wifi/ reception was very spotty, but I loved being in our remote part of the world for our long weekend. It forced our teenagers to stay off their phones, and to participate in family activities. Overall, the entire family fell in love with this farm.

Lovely old house!

  • 4 of 5

Four couples, one baby, and an aging dog stayed a week at this spacious property for our family vacation. Very relaxing and quiet except for the cicadas! Mostly our cell phones didn't have service so we got to really enjoy each other. We loved it. This house has some history, and holds memories inside. We met the housekeeper on arrival, and she said it was part of the Underground Railroad! That gave me chills! We are a family that appreciates such details, there are personal touches all over. We found it clean and comfortable, with a lived in feel. We fished, crabbed, and kayaked the week away. The screened porch is perfect for crab feasts! One day we spent on Chincoteague, but the rest locally, and the natives are friendly. The house itself needs some TLC, which is why I give it 4 stars and not 5. The roof is missing some shingles, and the outside paint is peeling. However when I called Jimmy the handyman about problems he was there right away. The bugs outdoors were very persistent, so I'd advise anyone staying here in August bring lots of bug spray!

This is the place to go and relax...shady trees to sit under and a lovely screened in porch to sit !

  • 5 of 5

We all had a great time..lots of room to sit inside as well as outside, the dock is great for fishing and crabbing, successful on both counts ! and the boat launch was perfect for our Sunfish and kayaks...our neighbor , Pat, payed us a visit and advised us of all the local places to check out, where to purchase our fish and he even provided us with our Crab Dinner and lessons for those who needed them...overall the house was very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere..we will be back next year..Many thanks, 2 families from Pa.

Fantastic location!

  • 4 of 5

This is two lovely old houses, the dock and kayaks were really great. The only things that keep us from giving it five stars is that it didn't have very comfortable furniture. Also, the internet service worked but was spotty (we recommend restarting the router if you have trouble). However the screened in porch, swimming from the dock, and the quiet more than made up for that. Also, this didn't bother us, but it is not updated. While the appliances and furnishings are old, everything worked and the local host, Jimmy, was very nice. We rented two additional kayaks from the neighbor, and enjoyed trips out into the bay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a lovely time at your place. It is a gracious and interesting place both inside and out. I still have visions of the beach trees framing the river, the river often dotted with swimmers and kayakers from our group. I have a memory of my 90 year old mother swinging in the rope swing. The swing in itself brought back memories, the give and tug of a rope swing on a tree branch has a rhythm unmatched by metal contrivances. I can say so much more. For one thing, your kitchen worked so well for our large group and the massive amount of cooking and baking that went on. And the crepe myrtle drive! We biked, kayaked, swam went to Tangiers Island and Assateague, celebrated a 90th birthday, a 20th birthday, a former wedding that still needed a cake and just general being alive in beauty.
