About this property

Settlers Cottage - St Helens Tasmania

The Settlers Cottage is situated in a popular fishing town on the East Coast of Tasmania.
The Cottage has three bedrooms and enough beds to sleep 7 guests.
Originally built in Lottah during the Gold Rush in Tasmania it was later moved to St Helens just 5 minutes walk to the main shopping area.
Recently the cottage was renovated, keeping much of the original character but adding a contemporary touch to the Kitchen and Bathroom area. Splash backs in the kitchen are made from glass, bench tops and servery from black marble and in the bathroom you can lay back and enjoy bathing in the large claw foot bath. Old coverings have been removed from the floors and the original floorboards have been sanded and polished. A large air con will keep you warm in this old timber home.
The town of St Helens is central to many tourist attractions in the area.
Just a 10 minute drive to the beautiful silica white beaches of the popular Bay of Fires, the Gardens and Binalong Bay.
On the opposite side of the river mouth you can explore the many sand dunes and surfing spots or launch the boat straight to the sea and head up or down the coast or out to the reef for a spot of fishing.
Inland from St Helens a 30 minute drive will take you to the top of The Blue Tiers where you can explore many well marked walking tracks or head to St Columbia Falls (one of Tasmanias tallest waterfalls) and enjoy a coffee with lunch and cheese tasting at the Pyengana Cheese Factory on your return.
The East Coast is a spectacular place to live or visit. It has an abundance of seafoods, wines and good restaurants.
Over the past few years there have been several bike tracks built in the area giving an extra dimension to the area and attracting many enthusiastic bike rides. These tracks have catered for both family groups and thrill seekers.

Good location
A thoughtfully restored property with plenty of space. The shops and restaurants of St. Helens were a short walk away, including a large supermarket. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Although it was nice to sit on the verandah we would have liked some more private outside space.

Return visit as good as the first
Our second visit here as this is such a lovely house, and we wanted to visit the Bay of fires area again. The bed is so comfy, the lounge kitchen diner a really good space, well equipped kitchen too. Bathroom amazing! House itself is all wood and very cosy, nicely done out. Spotlessly clean. St Helens is a great little town, two IGA’s coffee shops and bakeries takeaways and a couple of good restaurants, The Wharf and Ninas great food!! There’s also the bayside inn pub. All in all a perfect place for Binalong and Bay of Fires.
