|Minimum Stay||30 nights|
Relax and enjoy ocean and harbor views from this beautifully landscaped California cottage style home situated on a very quiet double lot (half acre) on Santa Barbara's famous 'Riviera'. This warm and family-friendly four - five bedroom three bath home offers the luxury of a fine hotel and all the comforts of a home. Just one an one half miles from East Beach and State Street you are moments away from both the ocean and the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. (You are also moments away from the world famous Santa Barbara Zoological Gardens, the Natural History Museum, the Art Museum, the Botanical Gardens, and the beautifully restored Grenada Theater and the Santa Barbara County Bowl.)
The beautifully decorated living room boasts hardwood floors, an Italian marble fireplace (with all the firewood you will need) and a baby grand piano. The living room opens up to a casual dining room that easily accommodates eight for dinner. Both of these rooms offer a beautiful ocean view.
The separate TV/entertainment room is great for the kids with large 52' High Definition Samsung flat screen TV, Blue Ray DVD, multiple CD player, VHS, and surround sound - it's also at the opposite end of the house so Mom and Dad can enjoy the Master Bedroom which has its own top of the line entertainment center.
There are hardwood, Travertine and tile floors throughout keeping the home cool and comfortable throughout the summer months. The large bay windows and four sets of French doors provide plenty of natural interior light. The bathrooms and laundry room have recently been beautifully remodeled and upgraded.
In the backyard you can enjoy the large salt water pool (20 feet x 40 feet) and eight person Jacuzzi surrounded by beautiful flagstone. The pool comes with a fully retractable cover which keeps the pool safe, warm and clean. There is also a full size trampoline (with a safety net) and a basketball net for the more active.
The back yard deck and patio area is surrounded by attractive planters and is perfect for summer meals with friends and family; the deck table sits eight comfortably. Grill or sear (think ahi tuna!) on the 52 inch Vintage gas barbecue grill or cook in the fully stocked gourmet kitchen which boasts top line appliances (Viking, Thermidor, etc.). Enjoy your meal watching the sailboats cruise in and out of the harbor with the spectacular Santa Barbara Channel Islands as a backdrop.
The front yard has a covered brick patio with a his and hers rocking chairs opening to a large lawn which can easily accommodate a full Croquet field (we have had many a wicked tournament here!). The lemon, lime, persimmon, mandarin, cherry guava and orange trees provide additional ambiance and tranquility to this charming property.
There is enough parking for three cars in the driveway and plenty of additional parking is available 24 hours on the streets both in front and behind the property.
We love our home and have made every effort to make it as warm and inviting as we possibly can. We have entertained many family and friends in the twenty-two years we have lived here and are always striving to improve each experience. We believe our home is an ideal get away for a family or group of close friends who seek the true 'Santa Barbara Experience'.
I have a dual nationality (French/American), which has provided me the wonderful experience of living and traveling in some beautiful places around the world. I am married and have 5 children -- all of whom were born in Santa Barbara. My wife is a retired actress, and a 3rd generation Santa Barbaran. I practice law, travel, and enjoy many of the great outdoor activities with my children, including surfing, tennis, hiking, and beach time!
Christopher Haskell purchased this house in 1988
I fell in love with this property the first time I visited it in July of 1988. The large lot, ocean and mountain views, key location close to everything, and the quiet neighborhood was a hard combination to beat.
Many of our guests come to our home with plans to visit many of the local sites and do wine tours-- and end up staying at the house for most of their stay. It is so easy to relax in comfort; all the amenities are at your finger tips. Why go anywhere else?
We just finished up a month in this really functional vacation home. We were there with our four kids ranging from 9-18 years old and the house is designed perfectly for everyone to have their own space but still hang out together. It is a very private yard and the pool/hot tub/grill setup in the back is wonderful. The view from the outdoor patio is of the ocean and very nice as well. Everything works easily in the house. The location is close to downtown Santa Barbara, Montecito, mountains and the beach.Chris was very responsive throughout the process from booking to while we were there to returning the deposit. We highly recommend this home.
We were nothing but thankful about the time we spent in this home. Everyone in our family loved this house; it's the kind of place you'd want to live. In fact, in all the places I've been over the years, I think I felt the most "at home" here. It's a great balance between beautiful and comfortable.
The set up is great, with the bedrooms far from the (perfect family) kitchen and entertainment center, so people can rest or hang out as they please. The kids loved their rooms and we all slept well in the downy beds. I loved the book selection and piano, too. I think it's the first time I've played while looking out over the ocean.
Staying here definitely made our trip. Thank you so much!
This property is THE place you want to stay when you vacation in Santa Barbara. First of all, the property is beautiful and well-maintained. The house is super-nice but not overly opulent. The views are stunning-waking up and seeing the sunrises in the morning and sunsets at night were worth it alone. Spa, pool, and fireplae are beautiful amenities. Also, it's close to the beach, downtown, the zoo, the wharf, Montecito, and everything else fun in the area. The property is also great for a family or a group because of it's gated front and back yards, separate TV room, and plenty of bunks, and a separate girls room. We had our extended family with multiple small children, and everyone had their space but also had a large living area to join together for Christmas fun. There's really no drawbacks for this vacation rental, so reserve it as soon as you can!
Loved my recent one month stay at Chris' serene clean home with beautifully landscaped dual yards and salty ocean views! Owner Christopher is exceptionally attentive to his guests, checking in to insure that everything is good, readily available if any issues. With a great Wi-Fi signal that never disappointed, I was able to work on the back porch daily beginning each day with a short trip for hikes with my lab to the dog beach and sunset hikes in the Douglas Family preserve. Best. Office. On. Location. Ever. The large pool, hot tub, and the baby rabbits living under the hedges in the front yard are my personal favs. The fruit trees and floral fragrances are intoxicating. Shops and stores are all within a ten minute drive making food runs quick and easy. If you're seeking a quite relaxing peaceful place to vacation or work/vacation, I highly recommend this property. Enjoy!
We rented Chris's home to get our family together for a major anniversary. It proved to be a first class decision with plenty of space to avoid treading on each others toes and stacks of entertainment possibilities. There is a superb pool (heavily used), spa and barbeque within a very pleasant and well maintained fenced garden. Age range in our group was 2 - 72 there were no complaints. Landlord Chris was very helpful but not obtrusive.
The house is in a very pleasant quiet suburb within easy reach of the town. We have no hesitation recommending this home to any group wanting to spend some time in Santa Barbara.
Our group of nine had a great time in Chris's clean, large home. There was enough room for everyone to hang out together or have private time outside by the pool or in front of the large screen TV. Chris was an accommodating host and his property manager responsive to our needs. The neighborhood too is a 10 minute drive from downtown and the beach as well as the beautiful mountains and canyons behind Santa Barbara. I would stay here again. Chris was also kind enough to allow our two dogs, who loved running and rolling around in the grassy, fenced yards.
Our home is in the perfect location - close to the downtown area and beaches, but in a quiet neighborhood with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains, and above the coastal fog which is prevalent in the summer months. Very close to good hiking, mountain biking and running trails.
