This large, impressive villa (3,000 sq. ft) is set in the Provencal countryside, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. Located just outside the renowned, perched village of Venasque, it lies between Carpentras and Gordes on the edge of the Luberon. Peaceful, private and accessed by electronic gates, the villa is nestled within 7.5 acres of grounds and, in addition to the spacious, attractive gardens, cherry orchard and olive trees, there is a pool;, summer kitchen for outside cooking and dining; a boules court; and a number of terraces from which to enjoy the wonderful views of Mt. Ventoux. Venasque dates back to the Romans and has been designated 'one of the most beautiful villages in France'. The XIII century church has a Baptistry from the VI century, built on the site of a pagan temple. With its fascinating history, lovely buildings, restaurants and artist studios, it is a special place to visit and only a minute's drive or a picturesque walk from the villa. The villa is decorated to a high standard with provencal fabrics and furnishings and has a large salon; small salon and dining area; fully-fitted kitchen; utility room; and a cloakroom off the large entrance hall. The four attractive bedrooms can sleep eight in two sings which are accessed by separate staircases allowing for additional privacy.
"We arrived at this villa for a ten day stay on 15th July. First impressions were of a property that had clearly been well cared for and was spotlessly clean. It was also very well appointed, providing everything needed for a relaxing stay. The villa is very private and is set in several acres of its own grounds, which made for a very peaceful and restful time. The outside, front terrace affords spectacular views of Mont Ventoux and is a wonderful spot to have dinner and while away the evening. There are numerous villages within a short drive, all of them typically Provencal in nature - lovely in other words - with the customary cafes, restaurants, boulangeries and what have you, and all have market days as well. Special mention should be made of the village of Venasque, which is closest to the villa (being in its commune). Perched on a hill, with sweeping views over the surrounding countryside, it is simply exquisite. There are two very good restaurants, or just enjoy a drink by the fountain in the evening. Whilst we didn't need the owners for anything, they were never more than an e-mail or phone call away. In short - and we're quite fussy and like our comforts - we had a fabulous holiday in this beautiful house and would recommend it without hesitation."
This is an outstanding destination for a group of friends or a large/extended family.
There is a LOT of indoor space, separated into different and distinct "zones" so, even if the weather is unkind, there is space to play, or lounge, or read, or just relax... even the opportunity for individuals or groups to do all of the above, simultaneously.
The bedrooms are smartly organized, with one end of the house having a owner's (or parents) suite and the other end having two well proportioned master bedrooms as well as a smaller bedroom that would be perfect for kids, but still comfortable for kids of any age.
The kitchen is large and open and well equipped with anything you might need for either casual dining on a large scale or even a formal dinner party at the full sized indoor dining table.
Of course it's Provence so, as long as the weather is cooperating, you want to eat, drink and play outside... and the Villa has those bases covered in perfect style.
The grounds cover some 7 acres, heavily treed, wonderfully private and great for wandering and exploring. The pool is large and well positioned with lots of lounging space and a decent sized outdoor kitchen and covered eating area and even a brilliant wood burning oven (one of the best barbecued lambs I have ever done!).
There is a massive amount of beautiful terrace space all around the house, so plenty of options for dining, catching the sun or just sitting and soaking in the view and the sense of total escape.
Long story now shortened, this is a wonderful villa destination in one of the most beautiful, romantic... and fun, parts of the planet.
Of course I can't let this review end without a special mention of your hosts, Yvonne and Tony... and your local contact, Laetitia.
They were nothing less than brilliant to deal with... and truly the most caring and responsive hosts I have encountered (in many years of rentals, in many different parts of the world).
Yvonne in particular was just wonderful to deal with in the weeks ahead of the rental... this is so important in terms of putting your mind at rest... and ensuring that your vacation and escape is everything you dream it will be.
I heartily recommend this villa as a perfect Provençal destination... and I haven't even gone into how close it is to so many of the region's best attractions!
Book, go... and enjoy?
We spent a fabulous week at this villa in Venasque. The house is very comfortable and spacious, Nanny and Grandad especially appreciated the separate bedroom in the old wing. We had breakfast on the front terrace every morning and dinner in the poolside covered area every evening. The views to Mont Ventoux are spectacular and it is very quiet – the children were able to be noisy without worrying about disturbing the neighbours. The swimming pool is large and there is plenty of room for sunbathing. We visited Venasque, Gordes and Roussillon. We found the Spar in St Didier very helpful, also the takeaway pizza in St Didier was very friendly and found space for us with no problem. This is an ideal villa for families or couples and all ages. We were sorry to leave.
This is a lovely villa set in a peaceful location amongst beautiful countryside. The area is fantastic for cycling with quiet roads, beautiful scenery and Le Mont Ventoux for the more adventurous. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor space with the pool and outside cooking area and spent much of our time here. We had a fantastic week and would recommend the property to anyone wanting a nice relaxing holiday.
We had a lovely stay in this spacious and well-appointed home. The owner is very responsive. The mid-week cleaning is a nice touch. The villa is quiet and secluded, very close to picturesque Venasqure and nearby St. Didier with it's bakeries and grocery store and market. Our children appreciated the 4th room on the other end of the house away from the main bedrooms. This is a great layout for two families. We loved having a private pool and the deck area and summer kitchen is well appointed with a great view. The pool was in good condition although a very large number of insects would drown each day requiring a good long sweep with a net before each swim. We hope to return soon for another visit.
This is a secluded, very comfortable, spacious and well-appointed villa, providing all that is required. We found the property as described, with the additional benefit that the owners were very reponsive to both email and telephone enquiries. We made particularly good use of the covered 'Summer Kitchen' for evening dining, and the children loved the pool.
We enjoyed a host of activities in the area including walking in the Dentelles, canoeing on the Sorgues, exploring Avignon and Gordes and dining in the Remparts restaurant in Venasque (excellent).
We have just spent two weeks at this lovely villa. It is spacious, extremely comfortable, well maintained and well situated.
There was everything in the villa that you would require and everyone concerned was extremely attentive and helpful.
The two young girls in our party loved the pool and we had some very competative games of boules.
The villa is perfect for exploring the area however you do need a car.
Venasque itself is picturesque and the boulangerie and general store are top class. We ate in both restaurants in the village (The Ramparts and Cote Fontaine) and they are very different but both excellent and highly recommended.
The charming village of Venasque dominates the Nesque valley and the Carpentras plain, with wonderful views of Mt. Ventoux and the Dentelles of Montmirail. It has an interesting history as the former capital of the Comtat Venaisson, and its famous baptistry, 12th century church and three Saracen towers all have historic classification. It is ideally situated for Avignon, the Luberon, Camargue, Arles, Nimes, the Pont du Gard, Orange, Chateauneuf du Pape and the wine villages of the Cote du Rhone. The surrounding area is wonderful for nature and outdoor activities; for culture and art lovers, and also for those who enjoy good food and wine. You will find numerous vineyards; cherry, apricot and olive orchards; daily markets with local, fresh produce (herbs, goat cheese, honey, nougat, etc).; and the famous Provencal lavender fields. Nearby are many attractive villages to explore, and there is a multitude of activities to pursue - not forgetting the great art of relaxation!
Other Activities: Kayaking; hot-air ballooning; gliding; concerts; festivals; wine-tasting
