Two charming apartments in an authentic castle dating back to 12th C. in the typical green hills of Chianti Classico. The castle has undergone various restorations over the centuries which have highlighted its architectural features giving it a particular charm and giving its structure an aura of olden times. The castle itself is very picturesque, built in stone in a square hill overlooking Greve in Chianti. It has a peaceful and a dominating position in front of Montefioralle Castle. From the garden and the windows you have a magnificent, panoramic view of rolling Chianti hills, olive groves and vineyards. The apartments have use of a large lovely private garden (450 m²). The Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit the great city. Siena is about 1 hour and half by car.

Incredible and Amazing Castle
This was one of the most amazing places we have stayed at while on vacation. The Castle's beauty and architecture is incredible. The apartment was connected to a beautiful garden overlooking the hills of Tuscany and the town of Greve. The gardens have a lot of places to sit and relax while overlooking the valley. Rosita and Rita's hospitality was perfect. On the day we arrived Rita made us dinner and it was excellent. They served a bottle of wine with dinner that they had made from their vineyard and it was outstanding. On our final night, Rita gave us cooking lessons. It was fun and we learned so much about authentic Italian cooking. Rita has a cookbook with her recipes that we got in hopes of duplicating her cooking when we returned home. From the castle, we walked into town. The town of Greve is really cool. Great shops, restaurants and people. There is a small grocery store and lots of places to buy wines. On our first full day, we hired a driver recommended by Rosita and toured the wineries. This was an unbelievable wine experience and included wineries that you cannot find on the internet. While staying at the Castle we had plans to visit Florence and Rome, but never did. We stayed in the local area and spent a lot of time at the Castle as this is a very special place. Rosita and Rita are wonderful and kind people and we are grateful that they opened up their beautiful Castle for us to stay. We will return.
Gem of Tuscany. Do not miss this.
Best memory of Italy. Rosita and Rita made Tuscany real for our family. They are new family. From cooking to teaching they were a joy. We will secure our next stay for one month because the idea of warm breezes rustling through olive trees and Chianti grapes, small town warmth, all the while staying in a 1,000 year old castle, makes us happy.
Single best travel experience our family ever had....oh, by the way, Florence is 35 minutes away!!
Dear guests from Hunt Valley - Maryland, thank you for the nice review. We enjoyed so much meeting you and your family. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your journey in Italy and we look forward to your return to the Colognole Castle staying a month at least. Happy New Year and all the best to you and to your beautiful family.
Beautiful setting. Stunning views. Lovely people.
I stayed at the castle with my husband and two grown up kids. We all loved Italy and the castle. The place is charming and authentic. Greve is a good 20 mins walk down a steep hill but is lovely to do (there and back)! We had Rita cook us several meals for an extra charge but well worth it. To be able to be served homemade Italian food overlooking the chianti vineyards and hills is just amazing. Our favourite restaurant was Andreaus pizza place in Greve. And our favourite shop was Antonios belt shop 😀 Our favourite trip was to Rome. We caught the bus to Florence and train to Rome - all very easy. A wonderful holiday ❤️
Absolutely wonderful stay 5 stars!!!
Our stay at Castello Di Colognole was beyond exceptional and truly exceeded our expectations. Rosita was such a wonderful hostess and made the stay that much more lovely. The castle is stunning and the views are incredible.
Magnificent Tuscan Experience
We stayed in the spacious and comfortable Bacco apartment for a week. We are a family of 3 with an 11 year old son. We all enjoyed our stay. In fact, it was sad to leave. Rosita and Rita warmly welcomed us and were most helpful with information regarding the area. Very sweet ladies! The garden was nice to relax in after a long day sightseeing. The views overlooking Greve were spectacular. We had a fabulous cooking class with Rita. The dishes we prepared were so delicious. I look forward to making them again at home. The vegetables and herbs came from Rita's garden. It was nice to go to the local markets and cook some of our own meals in our fully equipped kitchen. The location is central to most tourist attractions. We drove to most places. When we go back to Chianti, we will definitely stay at Castello Di Colognole again. I can highly recommend this beautiful 12th century castle.
Want to go back...
We travelled to Greve in July on a family vacation, and stayed in the Bacco appartment. Travelling with our 2 teenagers (12 and 14), we wanted to take in the Tuscany region, while still keeping them entertained! It was a wonderful stop of 3 nights and a highlight of our vacation. After a very warm welcome from Rosita, we enjoyed meandering around the grounds and a glass of chianti (which was waiting for us on arrival) while sitting in the shaded courtyard. The valley views of the surrounding olive groves and hillside are no less than stunning. This is a perfect retreat after a big city adventure. We had just arrived from Venice and were about to embark on Rome. During our stay, we travelled to Florence on the city bus. Well worth the ticket price and very easy day trip.
The accommodations were clean and comfortable. One bedroom has a bed and sofa bed so the apartment is most suitable for 5. I can't agree more with previous reviews that the character of this 12 century castle is complimented by all the modern amenities. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you may require to cook. Laundry is available. There is lots of space to spread out and relax!
One of our most memorable evenings was a Tuscany cooking class with Rosita's sister Rita. The kids (and us) enjoyed learning now to make ravioli and tiramisu, among other items, from scratch. This included a trip into Greve for some groceries with Rita. They mostly enjoyed spending time with Rita and taking in a truly "Tuscan" evening.
Lovely place, warm memories...hope we can go again one day.
Thank you for your kind review about your stay at the Colognole Castle. We are so pleased that your stay in the Bacco apartment was more than positive and your experience here was memorable. It has been a great pleasure for Rita and me to meet your family, we would have loved you stay longer and we hope your return to the Colognole Castle is in your future plans.
We wish you all the best. Thank you.

Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit that great city. Siena is about 1.30 h away by car to the south as is San Gimignano with its dramatic towers to the west. Colognole is perfectly located for day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Volterra, Perugia, Assisi and other Tuscan sites. There are many other lesser-known but equally charming Tuscan hill towns close by like Radda in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti , Castellina in Chianti, Volpaia.
