The Quaratesi apartment is on the second and third floors. On the second floor are two bedrooms, two modern baths with showers, as well as the kitchen and a large dining room with a fireplace. The third floor contains a third bedroom and a very large living room with a second fireplace. Architectural features include an entrance hallway with a vaulted ceiling and a private courtyard with a typical Tuscan loggia. The apartment has access to the lovely garden through the courtyard and another room.
Two charming apartments in an authentic castle dating back to 12th C. in the typical green hills of Chianti Classico. The castle has undergone various restorations over the centuries which have highlighted its architectural features giving it a particular charm and giving its structure an aura of olden times. The castle itself is very picturesque, built in stone in a square hill overlooking Greve in Chianti. It has a peaceful and a dominating position in front of Montefioralle Castle. From the garden and the windows you have a magnificent, panoramic view of rolling Chianti hills, olive groves and vineyards. The apartments have use of a large lovely private garden (450 m²). The Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit the great city. Siena is about 1 hour and half by car.

We have just completed a wonderful 15 days living at the castle. Our hosts, the very kind, generous, and caring sisters, Rita Meiners and Rosita Ricci, are an absolute delight and made our holiday very special.
Our apartment had fabulous views over the rolling Tuscan hills and valleys, the nearby flourishing vineyards and olive groves, the assorted farmhouses with their stately pencil pines and cypresses forming part of the architecture, and an ancient walled hilltop town in the distance. It was a great joy to awaken each day to this beautiful and tranquil landscape. The apartment was spacious and catered to all our needs. The local market town of Greve-in-Chianti with its charming piazza and a history dating back to the middle-ages is a half hour walk away, or a five minute drive. We visited daily for coffee and treats.
There is so much to see in the Chianti region, the heart of Tuscany. Despite plans to explore widely we enjoyed the locality so much that we rarely ventured more the 30 km from the castle. Every day in this beautiful setting was filled with the pleasure of immersing ourselves in the traditional landscape and learning from Rosita some of this area’s history, traditions and legends added to our appreciation. Not to be missed is sitting in the castle’s beautiful garden gazing out across the Tuscan landscape. It is peaceful and soothing environment. We regularly ate lunch in the garden and it also quickly became our favourite space to relax at the end of a day’s exploring.
One of the highlights of our stay was the opportunity, which we took on several occasions, to experience Rita’s exceptional cooking. Rita is a truly gifted cook and passionate about organic and seasonal fruit and vegetables. The four course meals we enjoyed in her home, served with the castle’s own wine, were absolutely stunning. We also had an educational and joyful cooking lesson with Rita which we will long remember.
The castle is a magical, enchanting place that will leave memories to cherish for years to come.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Quaratesi apartment at Castello Di Colognole! Rosita was there to warmly greet the six of us when we arrived. She showed us around the castle and shared some of its history. They have done a wonderful job of keeping this old building authentic and in good condition. Rosita made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel so welcome. Each evening, we had cocktail hour out in the garden area with a breathtaking view of the vineyards and olive groves. We loved the red wine made here and even bought some to take with us for the rest of our trip. This is a great location for exploring the area. We spent some time in Greve and also took the bus from Greve into Florence for a day which was so easy and no hassle of figuring out where to park in Florence. Rosita's sister, Rita prepared a meal for us on our last night there. All three couples were celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries, so we decided to use this dinner as our celebration. Rosita and Rita made it special for us out on the terrace. The meal was amazing from the delicious appetizers, to the homemade pasta, pork and tiramisu for dessert. Rita uses fresh vegetables and herbs from her garden and she is a fabulous cook. We were sad to leave the castle. It was definitely one of the highlights of our 3 week trip to Italy.
Our group of 4 stayed at Castello di Cologne from 9/1 to 9/9 and we hated to leave! It was truly our home away from home. When we arrived Rosita Ricci greeted us with a warm greeting that made us feel that we had made the right decision in choosing the castle for our stay. We had chosen the Bacco apartment with two bedroom, two baths, two sitting rooms, dining room and a kitchen that opened up onto a magnificent garden. The apartment was clean and nicely appointed and had all the appliances we needed. The garden was gorgeous and overlooked the valley, the vineyards and olive groves. The other wonderful woman we met was Rosita's charming sister, Rita. Rita prepared dinner for us on our second night at the castle. What a cook! Vegetables were fresh from her garden and the wine from their vineyard. She made the best tiramisu we had ever eaten. From the castle we would go on day trips to Florence, Siena, Volterra, etc. And, we were there for the beginning of the Greve wine festival. Area restaurants were very good, especially the one in Montefiorelle. Greve is a charming town, where we have stayed two other times. However, the castle outdid all the previous places where we have stayed before. I would definitely not hesitate to recommend Castello di Cologne to a friend, relative or anyone wanting to visit Greve. Our thanks to Rosita and Rita Ricci for being magnificent hosts and for making us all feel like family.
Wow, Staying in a place origins dating act to 826 is pretty amazing The 12th century charm were enhanced by Rosita and RIta Ricci. We were a family of 6 traveling together and had three nights. Our last we had Ritta prepare our meal for 8, as I also booked a small apartment for my sister and brother in law to join us for our last night. It was simply amazing. The views, the sunsets, and Rita cooked a beautiful dinner. Rita created a risotto from castelle gardens produced a zucchinin flowers, and assorted vegetables, absoultly the best! it was a perfect night thantks to Rita and Rosita! The castello is great if you plan to stay a week or two, but the three nights we had were some of the best of the entire vacation. The castelle can accomidate family gatherings as there are mulitple apartments ! We shall return, and stay for longer next time!
My family of four enjoyed our stay at Castello Di Colognole, our teenagers were fascinated by the idea of sleeping somewhere over 1000 years old. The gardens are quiet and peaceful, the views amazing and Rosita & Rita fantastic. The location is great, and the town of Greve in Chianti is very charming.
Our stay at the Castello Di Colognole was the highlight of our families trip to France and Italy last summer. The views of the rolling Tuscan hills, sunsets and historical setting combined with a very spacious apartment felt like a true taste of Italy. We all slowed down and relaxed in the simplicity and beauty of living here. Rosita and Rita were warm and loving hosts to our children and we greatly enjoyed our experience in the kitchen and the authentic tuscan meals outdoors. A very memorable stay. This is a 45 minute drive to Florence and a lovely place to explore the countryside from.
Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit that great city. Siena is about 1.30 h away by car to the south as is San Gimignano with its dramatic towers to the west. Colognole is perfectly located for day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Volterra, Perugia, Assisi and other Tuscan sites. There are many other lesser-know but equally charming Tuscan hill towns close by like Radda in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti , Castellina in Chianti, Volpaia.
