Authentic Montana Experience: Most people think of Montana as snow-capped peaks and blue-ribbon trout streams. Yet most of Montana is a combination of smaller yet equally rugged mountains, prairie & badlands, & warmer rivers - with trophy fish & game.

This cabin, home to pheasant, hawks, eagles, several species of fish, mule and whitetail deer, & the occasional moose, elk, & grizzly which follow the Teton River down from the Bob Marshall, is the best symbol of this other, larger Montana. And the people in the area are down-to-earth, hard working, helpful and friendly. This is where Lewis & Clark camped, confused which river was the mighty Missouri - there are 3 rivers. The Teton River, made famous through the writings of A.B. Guthrie, a Pulitzer Prize winner, runs for a mile through the property. And two other rivers, including the mighty Missouri, are within 2 miles of the cabin.

What To Do - If You Don't Hunt: Recommendations:

1) Fish 3 rivers in one day without setting foot in a car. Pull out a Sturgeon in the Teton River, a Walleye in the Marias River, & a Paddlefish out of the Missouri.

2) Hike or mountain bike to the top of the property. Watch 3 rivers run, simultaneously. The mtns to the east are the Bears Paw, home to 3 Indian tribes.

3) Bring/rent a canoe, raft, or motor boat. If it is early-to-mid summer, put in at the Teton River 100 yards from the cabin, float to the Marias 1/2 mile away, keep going to the Missouri, another 1.5 miles away. (Be sure to wear a life vest.) Drop anchor in each river. If it is late summer, start at the Marias.

4) Take a drive to Virgile Ferry. Cross the Missouri as the local ranchers and farmers have done for a century.

5) Have a meal at Ft. Benton's elegant Grand Union, arguably finest in the Northwest.

6) Take the binoculars and bird watch: pheasant, turkeys, pelicans, osprey, eagles, hawks, owls, and others that nest in the cliffs.

1) This is an off-grid Montana cabin in some of the most beautiful, rugged country on earth. Please be mindful of the power that you are consuming. The generator will require a gasoline refill (extra gas located beside generator) after about 15 hours. Suggested practice: run generator from early evening to mid-morning, then secure via remote ON/Off switch. 2) The cabin is heated via a propane fireplace. Propane also heats water. 3) Please respect the land and surrounding community of ranchers, farmers, & craftsmen. Hunt & fish according to Montana regulations and with an sense of ethics. 4) Verizon is the best carrier for phone & internet (for internet you will need a Verizon USB aircar). A TracFone is also excellent for phone service and can be purchased relatively cheaply in Great Falls. Adequate AT&T mobile phone service & library with DSL internet in Fort Benton, 10 min away

Owner very accommodating and corresponded well

  • 4 of 5

Took my 14 year old daughter to do some hunting in Montana and wanted to be somewhat comfortable and enjoyable rather than roughing it. We had a great time and the caretakers were very friendly and helpful. It was bitter cold between 1-15 degrees but propane fireplace kept us cozy. Hunting opportunities were decent with both whitetail and muleys present but mature animals were not there during our stay, although another party was there before us for the opening week and not sure how hard they hunted the property. Accomadations were as advertised other than a distinct smell, not sure if due to minerals in water or prior party. Had a great time with daughter/daddy time and would definitely consider coming back again.

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The hospitality was first rate. Ma's Cafe in Loma is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! What a gem out in the middle of nowhere. Possibly the best food in Montana. I would love to live there!

Owner's Response: Thanks Catherine. And thanks for the link ( chronicling your husband's 1000+ mi journey by canoe down the Misouri River from Loma, MT to St. Louis, MO... just like Lewis & Clark more than two centuries ago! We will be following Craig's progress - currently at North Dakota/Montana border...

Great Place - Good deer and birds

  • 5 of 5

Had turkey day dinner here. Kitchen held up well enough. Im sure that was the most cooking to be done in that place ever. Generator is easy to deal with and quiet. There was a nice buck on the property as well. Also, there is good bird hunting in the area.

One thing to mention, which was my fault. Region 400 closes earlier than the rest of the other regions so check your regs and where you are going to hunt. Found good deer hunting in region 6 but had to travel a little to get to it. Fort Benton is close and was able to supply us with everything we needed and awesome food at the hotel. We will be back with the Jet boat.

Beautiful land! Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I along with a group of friends spent a wonderful 3 day weekend at this cabin. There is plenty to do here, we hiked along the Teton River, fished the Marias River, and the Missouri is 5 minutes away. There is a lot of land to explore. The cabin is very comfortable and has everything you need. I would stay here again and again! Loved this cabin!

Great countryside

  • 4 of 5

My boyfriend and I have visited Montana a few times, and this time we decided to explore the Fort Benton area.

You do not get to see such a beautiful landscape everyday. To me, the pics do not do any justice. The sunset was spectacular.

I love fishing, and this was the place! The cabin that we were staying at was big and relaxing. Right outside the cabin there is a river where you can enjoy fishing.

My dog loved the fact that it could take a bath every now and then. After a day of fishing, we went to Fort Benton to the old hotel, we had a beautiful dinner!! Very interesting place.

I do recommend this place, especially I wanna thank Pat and Scottie who made our staying very pleasant!
