About Genivee Stein
We purchased this property with plans to retire and have space for family to gather and have fun. Visiting our daughter at App. State in Boone, we fell in love with the area and began our search. This was the fantastic result. From Greensboro, NC, only a 2.5 hour drive gets us to this beautiful mountain town with so many conveniences, even a hospital! Many folks have retired to Mountain City and are active in the community. The property is so secluded, it seems like we're in the country (just not in the deep woods). Besides the expansive spaces for large gatherings, there are ample spots to go off and be quiet. One of my most favorites is the small veranda off the breakfast room. From there, I can inhale the fresh, clean mountain air, watch the sunset and see the clouds, rain and snow approach over Iron Mountain in the west. As our retirement plans were thwarted by my husband's death, our family continues to enjoy coming to visit while we are able to share the experience with multiple other visitors for a memorable experience with their families and friends.

Why Genivee Stein chose Mountain City
This property is spacious and warm. There is plenty of room to spread out and have individual time as well as cozy areas and the pool, of course, to enjoy the company of others. The kitchen is large and inviting not just to the cooks. The basement is accommodating to those who want to play games or watch a video. The bedrooms and baths are spacious with comfortable beds. There's much floor space for air mattresses and even closets big enough to sheep in. There's lots of parking space, too. Watauga Lake is a short drive where we used to rent a speed boat or pontoon for a nice day on this beautiful lake. On the way to Watauga is Butler the town which moved by the TVA when the lake was built, The Butler Museum tells the story. Ask folks at the marina about fishing. Golf is a short drive to 9 hole WillowCreek, Vilas, NC or 18 hole Boone Golf Course. Skiiing in Boone, and Banner Elk, NC is pretty nice. Folks come from all over to enjoy skiing and tubing. We have hiked on the big hill behind the house for some good woodsy terrain and moderate work out. Across the street is Ralph Stout Park which at vaious times is a hub of activity. Two large walking trails, skateboard and bike park, picnic area, baseball field, and much play equipment, not to mention the Farmers Market Saturdays in season. From the park, there's a paved walkway at least a mile long that ends at the Welcome Center and Museum on the "4 lane" as the locals call it. There are several thrift shops. We have 2 Dollar Generals, Ha Ha. A variety of eateries are here to enjoy, the usual fastfood restaurants. Also there's Teammates Pizza, Pablanos and La Familia for Mexican, Sherry's and JP's Chicken House, LaCuicina for Italian. Suba's is a favorite $$$. It's small and you'll need to make a reservation. They also do take out. I recommend you download the " Zomato" app for some good info about the local cuisine.
What makes this House unique
Jean Ann, my dear friend, lives in Mountain City and manages the property. I could not do this rental without her help. She and her family built this house and lived here for years until we came along. They built a house next door but have since moved. Jean Ann is an accomplished jewelry designer and potter. She has a spacious studio where she offers classes ongoing.

A wonderful house and easy accessibility!
We enjoyed this home so much for our family ski weekend! It was nestled so nicely into Mountain City and very easy to drive up a short drive way with plenty of parking space! All of the rooms were nicely decorated and clean! Because of it being a split level, it gave every one more space and quiet time when needed! I bet spring and fall would also be a great time to be there- hope we can come back again soon!
first of all, thank you so much to the owner and manager. great comm and response to any inquiries.
the house was great!
My family and in-laws spent Thanksgiving break (5 days-4 nights) and we had lots of room, great amenities (game room, deck, pool area, fire pit). we will certainly be back for a future family reunion.
5 out of 5 stars!

Great house and location for a Fall break get away
We had five separate families that stayed this past weekend and we could not have asked for a better house to accommodate our group. We did a lot of hiking and biked the Creeper Trail and then came back and enjoyed the kitchen and coziness of the house. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking for a large group and there are plenty of sitting areas. We would highly recommend and would love to come back in the summer.
We stayed at this house for the 2nd time. We enjoyed a lot. My kids love the pool. Beautiful house, quiet place. All amazing. Thank you Genivee
