Dining/cycling/cultural sites nearby. 1 1/2 h from Barcelona with updated kitchen, bathrooms and heating system. Large communal spaces for dining and relaxing, with outdoor terrace and garden.
The house accommodates 11 guests. A bonus apartment next door is available for up to 4 additional guests for a surcharge.
Next to (1 mile from) La Bisbal in a tiny medieval village with lush scenery, best beaches (15 km/9 miles away), quiet village living.
With 4 bedrooms plus bonus dormitory room/family room with an adjoining deck looking out on the countryside. Comfortably sleeps 11. It has three baths, and a remodeled kitchen. It also has a large stone vaulted dining room off the kitchen. It has a spectacular view from the town's original 13th century watch tower and inviting terrace. Spacious and quiet enough for yoga practitioners, insulated enough for boisterous parties, and medieval enough that many of our young guests have called it "Hogwarts."
There is an additional stone cottage adjoining to accommodate groups of 13 for a surcharge.
This home is perfect for the budget conscious traveler or group who enjoys authenticity and village life, but proximity to world class dining, beaches and cultural offerings.
For the more active traveler, Girona is a center for cycling, both road and mountain. Hiking trails have been well developed in the area. There is world class golfing in Pals. The house and area are ideal for any time of year, since there is radiant heat in the home and the year round beauty of the country side. We've had guests stay for a weekend, weeks, or even months. IDEAL FOR A BARCELONA DWELLER or family to escape the city for the quiet to work, hike, relax, and regroup. Can Torre is also an ideal home base for other European travel, since it is close to the French Border and 20 to the Girona airport which has cheap flights to destinations all over Europe.

About Kristen Sparrow
We're a San Francisco family. Two of our (grown) children live in town and are making a go of it, while one is in Los Angeles on the road to stardom. Kevin is from DC, Kristen from Berkeley. We lived in Spain during a boom time in Spain from 1995 to1998. We were so lucky to have lived in Barcelona. It is the best of the best, though, or course that might hurt San Francisco's feelings. But Barcelona has the size, history, and depth that warrants the accolades.
Kristen Sparrow purchased this House in 1998
Why Kristen Sparrow chose Cruïlles
We bought this house at the tail end of a 3 year stay in Barcelona in 1998. Against all the naysayers in Spain , we managed to refurbish and renovate the house and have used it ever since. The old stone houses never lose their charm and resilience. We've had family to the tune of 17 strong in the house, and it didn't even wince, nor did the town. And the beaches, the countryside and the medieval towns are what bring us back. We never get tired of it.
What makes this House unique
The thing about this house/village/Costa Brava is the peaceful beauty, the range of beaches, and yet world class amenities in a country environment. This is why the cognoscenti from all over Europe come to the Alt and Baix Empordan.

Enchanting and wonderful for our group of family and friends
Nine of us were more than comfortable and happy in this rather magical old and lovingly restored stone building, replete with numerous nooks and enchanting spaces. Spent our days exploring the Costa Brava region along with relaxing strolls around the quiet immediate surroundings and nearby country lanes.
This home was awesome for our 2 family vacation of 11 travelers. Everyone had a comfortable place to sleep and the home was fully equipped with all the necessities needed. Having a washing machine was helpful! There were also bikes available for our use which was splendid. We all appreciated the cleanliness and updated bathrooms as well. We highly recommend this charming home for your next stay in Cruilles!
We LOVED this house! We were looking for a place in Girona but this house came up on the website and we couldn't resist, and we are so glad we stayed here. It was a lovely quiet refuge after a day of sight seeing and crowds. It is such a bucolic setting we really felt like we were in a little refuge. The house itself is great! Tons of room and had everything we needed plus plenty of ambiance. Kristen and Bas were very helpful when we made a last minute booking and made it very simple and had lots of suggestions about where to eat and visit.
We had a terrific dinner at a restaurant called El Pati in the magical medieval town called Peratellada. Do not miss this town!
I would definitely recommend this house and the village. Beautiful!
Best rental ever!
What fun it was to stay at this rental! Walking in was like stepping back in time with the stone interior, vaulted ceilings, etc. The whole village is like that! The place was very well equipped, in the kitchen, the linens, everything. The beds were comfortable. The grandkids loved living in a stone house, especially with the tower at the top. Some of the best time was spent just walking around the village, taking in the sights and sounds. I loved hearing the old clock tower chiming out the time. The countryside was beautiful and we got to explore many other medieval villages around the area. There wasn't one place we looked that wasn't picturesque. And locals are very friendly. We were welcomed everywhere we went and had no trouble communicating with anyone. Prior to our trip the owners were incredible, filling us in on the history of the place and making suggestions on things to do and places to go. We did it all! We started out in Barcelona. Once we left there for Costa Brava we found to our delight that Spain is more than beaches, cathedrals and Salvador Dali. There are a lot of cyclists in training in the countryside and bicycles available for you to use. And the management company was awesome! They were quick to respond to all questions and requests. Very helpful, friendly and we were well supported. I just loved these guys! You can tell from all the exclamation points I'm using that I'm sincere when I say that I would return again and again to Cruilles. For a unique experience, I recommend it highly.
Yay! It's great that these guests tried all of our suggestions. There is so much to see and do in the Costa Brava for all interests.
Beautiful house in a charming village
We were 4 adults and 6 children and there was more than enough room for all of us. The kids loved the house, they thought they were staying in a castle. The town of Cruilles is a charming little town conveniently located only a few kilometres from La Bisbal. It was nice to be able to walk around the entire town without worrying about traffic, although there were quite a few cyclists who come through. We enjoyed shopping in Bisbal, visited Torroella de Montgri and went to the beach in L'Estartit. I wish we could have stayed longer as there is so much to do and see in the area.
Great stay, beautiful. Many things to explore. I highly recommend this as a cyclist's dream rental. Road biking in this area is amazing, top class. Also there is great, actually amazing, food to be found. And wine of course. Visit this area. Stay here. Enjoy. Thank you.
I'm glad that this reviewer chose to highlight the cycling in this area. I can't emphasize enough the opportunities for road biking but plenty of trail and safe, casual treks also . Super fun.
