The lovely Glenbrook Cottage
Beautiful location. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed our stay. Looking forward to returning.
It was a very pleasant stay surrounded by 360 view of mountains. The accommodation was comfortable and homely. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We also got chance to eat fresh fruits straight from trees. This place is perfect for someone who wants to spend time in nature, away from a city
Thank you Ranvijay, it was a delight to host you and your family here just before Xmas. Glad the kids enjoyed the animals and we managed to win your wife over to the delights of fresh apricots. Hope the chutney was a winner too. Very happy to recommend this family to potential hosts and love to welcome them back in winter.
Everything you need - Why pay more for less ?
Pound for Pound better than the Megalong Valley or anywhere else around the Blue Mountains.
The location provides 360 degree vista's of Cliff's, Mountains, Bush, Valleys & wide open sky. Great dark site for Star gazing. Birds are abundant & notable, so bring some Binoculars or Telescope & Camera
There is plenty of room to roam around on to walk the Dogs or Kids. You can check out the Alpaca's, Sheep, Chickens & the Boss Turkey. There are also some rusting relics around that are interesting conversation pieces.
The Accommodation has all you need & comfortable. The Verandah is a great vantage point to just kick back with your preferred beverage & ignore the time. Kitchen facilities have everything required for making meals so there's no need to bring your Tools. There is a large Fridge for your Food & Drinks. A great Fireplace to get warm with & wood is provided. Beds are ample with Linen provided.
Very Pet Friendly. The area around the Cottage is Fenced although there are spots that small Dogs could get under, But there is access to a Kennel where you can secure your Pets or Kids. The hosts didn't have any issues with our Dogs being in the House although I would respect the Furniture & Carpet.
Easy 126 Km - 2.5 hour Drive from Penrith along the Bells Line through Lithgow, heading towards Mudgee & easy to find.
Magnificent view, excellent facilities, the nicest hosts
This is the second time we've stayed at Glenbrook Cottage and we'll be back.
It's romantic for two, lovely for two plus dog(s), and would be great for two couples plus kids or singles.
An excellent kitchen with a reliable stove and plenty of cooking equipment, reverse-cycle a/c, column heaters in the bedrooms, a most effective fire, barbecue facilities, a big fenced yard full of local bird life, and a veranda with a magical view.
We were welcomed with eggs from the barnyard and a freshly-baked loaf of bread and some wine in the fridge.
And despite the unhelpful weather this weekend we saw heaps of interesting birds around the Capertee Valley.
Superb location, tremendous vista
One of Glen Davis' best kept secrets. Neil and Lesley made us feel very welcome during our stay at their Glenbrook Cottage tucked away in the Capertee Valley. Accomodation is excellent, well appointed and maintained. Expansive views from the front verandah over the valley. Nice wood combustion heater which kept the cottage really toasty. Best part of the weekend was hearing the rain on the tin roof and the absolute quietness. Only a few minutes to Glen Davis proper and the National Park to view kangaroos, native birds and wombats. Our UK visitors really enjoyed seeing the wildlife and nature up close including the farm alpacas, sheep and various turkeys, chooks and fowl. Highly recommended. Thank you Neil and Lesley for providing a great place to stay for the weekend.
Thank you Pip, so glad you all enjoyed your stay with us and the local wildlife didn't disappoint the visiting poms.Sadly only 6mm of rain but as you say the sound on a tin roof is music to the ears .( My UK relatives could never understand that until they came to visit .....I guess in the UK the sound would be incessant and drive you nuts :-D). All the best and hope we can host you again in the future.
Cheers neil n lesley
Thanks Neil for a great stay at your property everything was as described and more. The house is clean and well presented and very warm. The little extras are a nice touch the kids love the eggs and have asked if we can come back again next year so look forward to seeing you then
Thank you for taking the time to post such a nice review, it's really appreciated. Glad you had such a good stay and the kids enjoyed their "no screen time" break collecting eggs, feeding the sheep and yabbie catching. Look forward to welcoming you all back next year.
Comfortable relaxing cottage set on 90 acres on the slopes of the Wollemi National Park in the heart of the stunning Capertee Valley, the widest canyon in the world and an internationally recognised Important Bird Area.
Bird watching birders please contact me for useful links, mountain bike riding , painting / sketching and bush walking are the obvious ones. Glen Davis has the old shale oil works and if you are feeling energetic you can walk the pipline trail to Newnes in the Wolgan Valley ask me if want a lift to the starting point and avoid paying the $2000 a night at the Emirates resort,
In summer there is a lovely safe spot to chill out in the Capertee River 10 mins from here, or 45 mins away Dunn's Swamp which fortunately is nothing like the image the name conjures up. Sandy beaches , deep swimming areas, canoe hire , camping grounds and boat tours.
Nearby Rylestone 45 mins boasts the best dumpling restaurant in NSW yep , weird we know , but true , the world's second best olive oil producer missed out by a tiny fraction on the top slot , a couple of country pubs and the odd collectibles store. Mudgee and Bathurst are both about 75 mins or so . Gulgong fantastic museum , Sofala and Hill End are all within a comfortable day trip.
OR , you could simply sit out on the deck and enjoy a glass or several of your favourite tipple.
