Inga purchased this apartment in 2005
Fell in love with it at first site.
The ability to touch NYC history
My family stayed in Inga's garden apartment in Brooklyn. She was one of the most gracious hosts we have every had in our many VRBO rentals. She let us come a day early and was always around to assist and give us what we needed from information to coloring books for our girls when we left on the last day. Its a very short two to three block walk to the subway to get you all around the city. Its a safe and diverse neighborhood with many friendly residents. We enjoyed our visit to NY and felt like we lived there vs. being tourists in that great spot. We just fell in love with Brooklyn!
Hate to leave my first unfavorable review ever on a rental but this place is not for someone travelling alone or even with a family. Yes the subway is only 2 blocks away but I would never walk it alone after dark. The court the house is located on is very dirty and right next to busy Atlantic and a very loud Ltrain. Owners were nice but didn't offer a walk through of the accommodations so I had to figure out where everything was. One bath towel was all that was in the bathroom when I arrived. Had to go knock on door and ask for a couple washcloths. Inga did message me later that day and said she would give me a couple more towels but couldn't connect with my busy schedule to get more so I told her not to worry about it. It was the least of my problems with the place. No trashcan except for the one in the bathroom and a small one outside in entryway. I have certainly stayed in much cleaner and nicer vrbo's. No top sheet on the very firm bed. Living room furniture was very worn and illfitting. Bars on the windows for a good reason. Had a fight with a giant cockroach the night before I left. No, this is not somewhere I would ever stay again nor would I suggest it to anyone else. Very disappointed and couldn't wait to be depart at end of my stay.
I appreciate the owner for allowing my family to stay at their property in Brooklyn. Although the location was very convenient to lower Manhattan, traffic can change your travel time drastically depending on the time of day. Overall, I think the location was ok. The description of the property was as is, it's a basement apt, I think it would hold 4 people at the most. The apt has all you need for a short stay. It was clean on the inside. We didn't eat or spend time in the area, we were mostly in the lower east side. I would recommend this apt for those who are staying for a short period of time who want to save money while staying in Brooklyn. The owner was very helpful with answering any questions I had. I would recommend this place to others.
Great location, very near a subway station of line C, that puts you in 30' in Times Square (less to other locations, like Wall Street or the Soho). The neighbourhood is not Greenwich Village, but it is very safe and you have a lot of places to your daily shopping.
The apartment is very comfortable everything works well and if not, the owners are immediately there to fix whatever problem you have. e.g: the heat stopped to work on Dec. 31st, and at 10;30 PM Inga`s husband was fixing it for us (succesfully, thanks God!). I had to print a train ticket and had no printer, and they were there to do it promptly for me. That is, I think, the type of help that you need to concentrate on all that NYC has to offer.
My Wife and I recently spent 11 days in New York for our anniversary. We scoured Home Away, VRBO and FlipKey for the right place to stay. We had eventually narrowed it down to a top five locations and eventually decided on this property. It is extremely close to the C train, just about a block and a half. It's also just a couple of blocks from a grocery store and various fruit stands, fish markets, etc.
Lower Manhattan is only about a 20 minute train ride and there are many opportunities for transfers all over the city (you can get to Williamsburg by catching the L four stops away).
The neighborhood is very friendly and accommodating. People are very respectful and always willing to help if you are looking for something. The photos and description are accurate, and the host is an extremely good communicator. My only gripe is that I kept hitting my head on the light fixture in the kitchen but that's probably my own fault for doing the same thing every time and expecting different results. There is street noise, including a train, but you get used to it in less than a day (and it's New York, you're going to have street noise).
I would definitely stay here again.
A wonderful, cozy, and updated apartment in a historic home close to Manhattan! My friends and I travelled to NY for a week and were trying to find a perfect, or at least, close to perfect place to stay, without going broke paying for super overpriced hotels.
My friend found this apartment, and until today we are very grateful to her for that!
The place is extremely cozy, with a lot of space, renovated kitchen, bath and pretty much brand new furniture - can't get any better!
The apartment is located in a historic home, close to subway, which takes you directly into Manhattan.
The owners are very nice and helpful! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a bottle of wine and were provided with a lot of useful information about the city.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who travels to New York and would like to stay in a comfortable place for a split of the price that they would've paid in any decent hotel in the same proximity to Manhattan!
We are definitely coming back ourselves!
Property is locate on the border of Crown Height & Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods of Brooklyn, areas filled with beautiful brownstone streets, churches, synagogues & numerous museums.
