See what our guests are saying about The Hilltop Hideaway:

'LOVED LOVED LOVED this place. Such a beautiful house with a awesome location on top of the mountain. The owners have created a GEM of a place. The house is beautiful on the inside and so homey feeling. We just relaxed and took in the views for the whole week we truly felt relaxed and hated to get back to the hustle and bustle of home. Our 4 teenagers never complained one time that they were bored which is amazing. Loved picking blackberries every morning and having a camp fire every night. The road leading to the house is quite an adventure but so worth it. All of us said that we would go back in a heart beat wished we had stayed two weeks instead of one. PS ..The dogs even look sad to be home they loved the freedom of roaming the property in the day. Thanks for sharing this place with us it was as close to HEAVEN as it gets!!!'

Debra's mountain cabin is a really amazing place. The view is fantastic and the house is very clean and welcoming. We had several babies and toddlers and the house was safe and accommodating for all ages. The location is great - you can get to Boone, Banner Elk, Grandfather, the Parkway, and much more in half an hour or less. We love this place and hope to stay there again someday.

Centrally located between Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and Valle Crucis. Thus, equidistant to our two favorite restraunts in NC -- Artisnal and the Gamekeeper. Hosts were amazingly prompt at answering questions.

'We had a wonderful extended family get-together at the Hilltop Hideaway. There were beautiful panoramic views from every side of this comfortable cabin. It felt like home, but better. Watching the sunrise over the mountains from the hot tub was breath taking. Everyone pitching in to cook the meals in the spacious kitchen was fun. Relaxing, going for afternoon walks, napping in the hammock, and rocking on the front porch were just what we all needed. It was nice to laugh, 'catch up' and reminisce in such a beautiful setting. The kids loved 'Camp Skybunk'. It was almost like their own personal apartment. They made memories picking blackberries, roasting marshmallows by the campfire pit, wading in the Watauga River, and trying to choose their favorites at the Mast General Store's Candy Barrel. We had a great vacation that we all will cherish for a lifetime. This is a private cabin, with a peaceful atmosphere, in the most beautiful area of the NC mountains. We Highly recommend the Hilltop Hideaway.'

'We truly enjoyed our mountain vacation! Our boys enjoyed the mountain fun too. Your 'yard' was so much fun for all of us. We took long walks around your area and enjoyed the special spots around it. The timing was perfect with the Mast General Store Festival and the Wolly Worm Festival. On Grandfather Mountain we enjoyed 'high adventures' for the whole family.'

'Our wonderful week in the mountains went by way too fast! The location of your beautiful cabin was so peaceful and private. I can't remember when we have slept so well! What an incredible view from the hot tub!

You have graciously provided everything for a perfect mountain vacation! Thank you for sharing your treasure with our family - we would love to come back!!'

My 4th fall visit

  • 5 of 5

I love this house and this view on top of this mountain.

Just a couple of things I wish to suggest...

If you are not going to supply enough paper products for the entire visit, please say so in advance so we might bring our own. This includes towels, tissue, toilet paper, trash bags. Same for dish soap & wood.

How about some hooks or racks in bathrooms?

What is the deal with all of the recycle bins? If you want us to really do this, please provide bags for all 5 bins. But is it really necessary to have 5 bins?

These are but small items. I & my friends really do love this place. I can't imagine fall without a visit.

Owner's Response: Hi Judith Thank you for the 5 star review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your repeat business. As for the things you mentioned, we encourage all of our guests to please reach out to us directly with any concerns during your stay. Our cell #s are posted in the cabin. We do our best to respond to texts or calls asap. We no longer provide firewood as it proved impossible to keep it stocked. We changed our policy a few years ago and the website has been updated. Our housekeeper stocks each of the 4 bathroom with a fresh roll of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels in the kitchen prior to each check in. My apologies if she did not do this. This may or may not be ‘enough’ for a given group depending on the size and length of stay. It’s a good idea to bring extra. The recycling bins are the same as are required at the recycling center. We must be out of the clear bags for each bin and we will restock them. Thank you for your feedback. Deb

A home away from home, mostly for the views

  • 3 of 5

We already live in the mountains, but we did not want the long weekend to be a staycation.

Overall, we enjoyed to stay, the views were great, the inside facilities adequate and comfortable

That drive up to the house was somewhat unsettling, narrow gravel path, wide enough for just one vehicle. The grass was overgrown, knee-deep (it said on the refrigerator that the grass will be cut every two weeks), the hedges were not trimmed, the front yard was not very welcoming, with strewn leaves, overgrown creepers.

Even though the house boasted a hot tub, it was unusable, the water slightly green with a bad odor. It was also unsettling that the kitchen floor was buckling. The fire pit was just a fire pit, with no seating.

On a positive note, the bathrooms were well-designed and the comfort level inside the house was good. We spent the rainy Sunday inside, watching TV and playing games and enjoyed it.

If outside of the house is more welcoming and if the kitchen floor redone, we will consider returning.

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed at Hilltop Hideaway twice now. We have had an excellent experience both times. The moutain views are great and you have plenty of privacy . It's very quiet with no other cabins close. You are close to Grandfather moutain, Boone, Downtown Banner Elk, waterfalls, Beech Mountain, mast general store and much more. The beds are very comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. There is a washer and dryer that works great also. My sister came to visit and drove her Toyota Prius up the gravel road that leads to the cabin without any problems. My wife went to town a couple time's and I stayed at the cabin and just soaked up the views from the porch. There is satellite TV and a fireplace. Our First stay in Dec we used the fireplace with the provided wood. It was so nice to have a fire going. Come fall time we will go back for our third stay. It's a great cabin in a great location. A girls trip to remember

  • 5 of 5

Great place for groups of any kind. We had a girls trip to remember with lots of laughs (and smores) by the bonfire, delicious meals cooked together in the wonderfully stocked kitchen. We hiked in the surrounding areas, visited the mast General Store and shopped around in downtown Boone. The beds are soo comfortable and the views are incredible! Definitely going to make this an annual trip! Next time we plan on hitting the slopes that are near by. Thank u so much Kevin and Deb! We will be back for sure!!
