This gracious 4 bdrm house is set among boxwood, lavender & rosemary hedges, with a spectacular view of mountains in Franschhoek, premiere village for food and wine in South Africa's wine country. The back terrace, with dinner table for eight, overlooks a neighboring vineyard and garden. In the front there is a lap pool and a vine covered porch for reading and relaxing. Inside, the house is light-filled and airy with high ceilings, tile floors, and French doors leading to a terrace with gardens in front and back. There is a large living rm, large dining rm & eat in kitchen (no dishwasher). Master suite and two smaller bedrooms (one with a queen size bed and one with a 3/4 double) are complemented by a garden suite (Queen bed) with a private entrance.
Location: Two blocks from main street and center of town, the house feels far removed from town because the windows and terrace face out to the mountain view, but walking distance from restaurants, shops, cafes & the movies.
Franschhoek is the center of the Cape wine region renowned for its shops, more than 30 top restaurants, and most of all, its fantastic tasting vineyards. Many of the vineyards are open for lunches and picnics. Cape region food has a primarily Mediterranean foundation but includes unique African influences (such as ostrich carpaccio and springbok fillets) as well as many Malay flavors and ingredients. Activities range from wine tastings throughout the wine area (less than 30 minutes drive to dozens of vineyards in Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, and Paarl) to all of the culture and nightlife of Cape Town (50 minute drive). Other activities include the beaches of Camps Bay, the beauty of Constantia and the other Southern Suburbs, and the spectacular views and wildlife of the Cape of Good Hope. Within Franschhoek itself there is horse back riding, bicycle riding, fishing, and hiking for outdoor lovers.
There is also ample opportunity for shopping, going to museums (don't miss the Franschhoek Motor Museum, reputed to be the most comprehensive collection of cars from the last 100 years in the world), and relaxing in one of the many beautiful spas in the area.
This is the perfect holiday spot for couples, families, and groups of friends looking for a few weeks of summer and exotic adventure in the middle of American and European winter. One week minimum rental.
