Surrounding areas of Kinglake provide guests the opportunity to explore the majestic Kinglake National Park and include a variety of walks to park highlights such as Masons Falls and Wombelano Falls. Local tourist destinations are also within easy reach, including the historic Kinglake Pub.
Guests have exclusive access to the house and immediate grounds, including swimming pool and gardens and you are welcome to explore the wider property and walking tracks through the bush. Note that as a working hobby farm the owners reside in a separate dwelling on the property and may be present tending to the animals during your stay.
Within the house there's a large living space, boardroom/dining room, award winning kitchen, library, private cinema and music studio (musicians are required to supply their own equipment).
Interaction with Guests
Your hosts will be available to work with you and make sure your stay is perfect in every way. We aim to greet all our guests to show you around the house and facilities before we leave you to enjoy the retreat.
We like to get to know our guests prior to arrival so that we can provide as much of a tailored experience as possible. Please tell us a bit about your group and plans for your stay when making your booking or enquiry so that we can offer you the best advice for your stay.
For those guests planning to visit the Yarra Valley wineries, we offer private wine tours directly from the property and can either design a tour for you or take you wherever you'd like to go if you. Ask about our ‘Cheeky Wine Tours’ when enquiring for more information.
We can also provide conference & event co-ordination, in-house catering, team building/entertainment and transport options for an additional fee so please let us know your requirements when booking.
Whilst we're secluded and we encourage you to enjoy your time on the property, we still have neighbours to consider so no excessive loud music in the outside areas of the house/property after 11pm.
Your booking is for the maximum number of guests that we have agreed, no visiting guests are allowed unless by prior arrangement.
However, please just be upfront with us about your plans so that we can work with you to accommodate - we're pretty easy going!
No smoking inside the house please, an outside ashtray is provided. Also, sorry but we can't accept pets due to other animals on the property - dogs tend to love chasing sheep!
Other things to note
The Cheeky Fox Retreat is home to some local farm animals including 30 sheep and three horses. We also have nightly visits from wombats and the occasional Cheeky Fox. With the animals on the property please remember to close all gates after you use them.
Kinglake is known for its mountain winters so don't forget to pack your gumboots, uggboots and warm clothing from April to October. Note the swimming pool is not available over the winter period (it's solar heated so we can't get it to a comfortable temperature at that time year but we find red wine by the fire a pretty good alternative!).

About Linda and Jason
We are a friendly and respectful couple who are fond of all the good things in life - food, wine, music, films, socialising and travel. We initially bought this property as a country escape and for six years divided our time between here and a unit in the city. However, the pull of the country got us in the end and we are now proud to call Kinglake home.
Linda and Jason purchased this House in 2010
Why Linda and Jason chose Kinglake
With family in the area, we were frequent visitors to Kinglake and its proximity to Melbourne made it the ideal location for a country 'weekender'. We fell in love with this property straight away with its large, well laid out house, swimming pool, rural aspect, and incredible views. It was certainly more than we needed but we knew it had the potential to help us realise our dream of living and running a business in the country. So, we took the plunge and now consider ourselves incredibly lucky to be living that dream!
What makes this House unique
The house has such a warm, welcoming feel that everyone who visits instantly feels right at home. With several living spaces and six large bedrooms, it is perfect for large groups to spread out while still feeling like a cosy, country farm house. We were particularly attracted to the swimming pool, with its stunning views and the movie room with its authentic cinema feel! A sun-drenched veranda wraps around the entire house offering views of the ranges to the east and garden views to the west. The house grounds are surrounded by paddocks housing some 30 sheep and there is also about 12 acres of bush on the property, with over 2 kilometres of tracks to explore.

Amazing place to escape
Beautiful place to stay with all of the facilities our craft retreat could want and more! Clean and well maintained. Comforts of the pool, amazing views and open fire to enjoy. Linda and Jason were lovely and accommodating. We are definitely returning in the near future.
PERFECT group getaway!!
We absolutely LOVED Cheeky Fox retreat! The house was very accommodating and had everything we needed for a nice weekend away. The house was very clean and everything worked perfectly. There is even a huge cinema room! So fun! Linda and Jason couldn't have been more hospitable...Jason even brought over a baby lamb for the children to pat. We had such a wonderful weekend at Cheeky Fox Retreat.
A beautiful, spacious home with a killer view!
We used Cheeky Fox retreat as a weekend getaway with our interstate friends, and we could not have been be more impressed. It was a great location for us, a real country retreat just one hour from the airport. On arrival we were blown away with the sheer size of the home and the bedrooms. The property was clean, well-maintained and well appointed with 3 fridges, 3 bathrooms, 3 toilets and an actual cinema room. Linda and Jase greeted us with breakfast items, gave us a quick tour then left us to enjoy the weekend by the pool with spectacular views over the Kinglake area. Over the course of the long weekend we enjoyed a game of Golf in Wittlesea and a winery tour with Yarra Valley transfers. We loved it so much, we're already planning our next trip back to Cheeky Fox Retreat. Thank you Linda and Jase!
Amazing property and hosts
We booked a long weekend away for my dads birthday- 8 adults and 4 children and we had the best time! It’s an amazing property with so much to do for both adults and children. Location is fantastic if you want to go for Drive somewhere but with so much do locally at the house we didn’t end up leaving apart from short walks. Can’t speak more highly of this property and we will deinfitely we returning. Thanks so much
We had another fantastic stay at Cheeky Fox for 5 nights over New Years. We had a large group with several families and lots of kids and Cheeky Fox was perfect for us. Linda and Jason are brilliant hosts - super helpful and welcoming. They go above and beyond e.g. providing tractor rides for the kids and a welcome hamper of goodies on arrival. The location is stunning and very handy with cafes, supermarket and a pub just up the road and the Yarra Valley only a 20 minute drive way. We can't recommend Cheeky Fox more highly and can't wait to visit again!
We had 10 adults and 7 kids stay for the weekend to celebrate my dad's 70th Birthday and we couldn't have picked a better place. It is perfectly located so feels like you are remote but are still just out of town. The house was perfect for a relaxing weekend and the kids loved the pool and getting to know some of the new little lambs. So much room to explore and spread out while still feeling like a cosy farm house. Linda and Jason were always accessible and fantastic hosts.
The Kinglake Ranges offers a wide variety of attractions and activities including the Kinglake National Park with walking tracks, BBQ facilities and impressive waterfalls. There's an abundance of flora, fauna and playgrounds for the kids, including Bollygum Park located in the heart of Kinglake and can't be missed. There's a farmers market in town on the fourth Sunday of every month as well as a community market on the second Sunday in select months. For the more adventurous, there's Victoria's premier downhill mountain bike facility just around the corner. We invite you to enjoy all the Kinglake Ranges and surrounding area has to offer!
