With so many holiday properties to choose from in Hobart, making a choice can be very difficult. The moment you see Omaroo House, a very cute 1850’s cottage surrounded by flourishing roses it draws you in for a stay of comfort and convenience and you know you have made the right choice. It has a great location on the edge of the CBD within the Heritage Precinct of Hobart’s top rated suburb West Hobart so a car is not critical. It is a 5 minute walk to the city, 10 minute walk to Salamanca and Constitution Dock where the Sydney to Hobart yachts come in at the end of the race, so there are many excellent cafes, restaurants and bars. It is a 15 minute walk to vibrant North Hobart where there are more excellent cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs and of course shops. If you have a car all these places are only a couple minutes away and there is parking for 2 cars at the rear of the property plus parking on the street. So it is suitable for all kinds of guests, from couples to friends sharing, business professionals and especially welcoming for families.
On entry to the cottage is the original sitting/lounge room with a classic leather lounge suite, large flat screen TV and DVD player and a gas heater to keep you cosy in winter. To add to your relaxation there are books on the bookshelf and board games in the chest which all contribute to a great atmosphere.
From the lounge via the original 1850’s back door you enter the kitchen and dining area, where you have stunning panoramic views of the Derwent River. The dining table seats six and maximises these panoramic views and has another flat screen TV and the kitchen is fully equipped.
The main bedroom also has stunning panoramic views of Derwent River and the backyard which can be seen when you are lying in the Queen sized bed. The second bedroom has a Queen sized bed and the 3rd bedroom has a single bed and a rollout trundle bed which comes to the same height as the single bed.
Omaroo House is also child friendly as it has a portacot and a high chair and the bathroom has a shower over a mini-bath that can be used for babies and young children.
The back door takes you out to a lovely large garden again with panoramic views of the Derwent River and extra space for kids to play. The outdoor furniture allows you to maximise the enjoyment of these views whether are reading a book or enjoying a drink, there is also a BBQ.
Omaroo House combines the best of modern convenience with historic charm, and will make your stay in Hobart a memorable one, including famous Tasmanian fudge to welcome you on your arrival.
Tasmania’s top rated gourmet grocer, the famous Hill Street store which houses fresh local produce, fabulous deli, cheese room and local wines has many gourmet delights for any foodie and award winning West Hobart meats, parks and walking tracks are all close by.
No matter what you enjoy, there is something for everyone at Omaroo House.

We were impressed as soon as we walked in. Was a fantastic home base for our visit. So warm and cosy, very clean and plenty space for the 3 of us, would easily suit a family, a few couples or group of friends. Beautiful view from the dining table, so relaxing. Also a large yard. Beds were so comfortable. Much nicer than motel and very reasonable price. Will stay there again. There is a big hill if you are on foot, but the rest of it made up for the hill.
Wi-Fi would be good but we worked around that. Thanks.
Hi Anne. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your stay & time spent at Omaroo House. looking forward to seeing you again on your next visit. Kindest regards Lynda
Good family house
The house was comfortable, especially the beds and linen. The kitchen was really well equipped so cooking dinner was a breeze. It was great to have a washing machine but a dryer was really needed with Hobart weather. Our only problem with this house was the real estate. Check in was fine but when attempting to check out they were closed! We tried calling and calling but the paging service kept saying they could only help in an emergency. In the end the office lady arrived at the office at 10:25am. There needs to be a better system for travellers using short term holiday stays.
Hi Angela Thank you for taking the time to review Omaroo House. We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused by the late arrival of our staff and can completely understand how frustrating it would have been for you. We have reviewed and subsequently updated our after-hours services to ensure that the situation you found yourselves will not occur again. However, we are very happy that you found Omaroo House was well equipped and comfortable for your stay in Hobart like our previous guests. Thank you Alaana
Fabulous place to stay!
Lovely comfortable home with everything you could need. Great location, walking distance to CBD and dock (so long as you don't mind some hills!). Beautiful views. Highly recommended.
Thank you Claire, we are so happy to hear you enjoyed your time at the cottage and in Hobart.
This picture perfect place, was a highlight of our stay in Hobart. The view was amazing whether in the morning with the sunrise or at night with the lights of the town. The home was very comfortable, heating was great and the water in the shower hot. Thank you

Excellent Place and Location
What a great place!!!
Fabulous views of the Derwent River from the dining room, kitchen, main bedroom and the backyard. We opened the main bedroom curtains each morning and relaxed in the bed enjoying the view having a cuppa. The dining table was positioned perfectly to always enjoy these views. We also enjoyed watching the yachts sailing on the river and often sat outside with a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Excellent location, we walked to the city, Constitution Dock, Salamanca Market, Hill St grocer and Elizabeth St North Hobart that had lots of great places to eat or have a drink. When we did drive it only took a couple of minutes to get to all these places.
The beds were very comfortable and the owners have thought of everything you need including games and lots of brochures on sights around Hobart and Tassie.
We had 2 cars and there was plenty of room to park at the rear of the house so it was very easy to get our luggage in and out of the house.
The booking process was easy and Chellem was very helpful including local giving local info.
We loved this place and plan to be back very soon.
