About Keith & Elizabeth Ward
Lake Place Retreat is owned by Helen Chambless and managed by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Keith Ward. Helen lives in NC and enjoys gardening and visiting her grandchildren. Keith and Elizabeth live and work in Atlanta with their two sons. Having a place on the lake has been a dream of ours for years, and we are pleased to share it with you. Helen is a native of SC, and Keith and Elizabeth both graduated from Furman University in beautiful Greenville, SC, just up the road. We all fell in love with Lake Hartwell and knew this was the perfect spot for our families to gather. We hope you will share our Lake Place Retreat with your family and friends and create some special memories of your own.

Why Keith & Elizabeth Ward chose Lavonia
Our home is a unique A-frame style lake house with rustic, shiplap walls that have been whitewashed for a bright, airy feel. With three private bedrooms and one sleeping loft, the setup is ideal for 2 families or a girlfriends' getaway, and the three full baths help accommodate everyone. The sunroom allows for a second relaxation area with its own TV and large dining table, big enough for a large puzzle. We spend most of our time on the spacious decks, where there is always some amount of shade. Our cove always has plenty of water. Even in drought years, the lake is at least 12 feet deep in the slip.
What makes this House unique
We have a STRICT no smoking, no pet policy, so you can safely bring your family members who suffer from severe allergies like members of our family do. We know your pet is adorable and sweet, but you'll need to find another house if you must bring Fluffy with you. Also, our house is set up for a MAXIMUM of 8 people, even counting children. If you have more than 8, please keep looking at the other great houses on Hartwell that can accommodate your group. Most of our guests rave about our multi-level deck and our fire pit patio. Our house is nestled in the woods with plenty of trees for your Enos, but you can always see the water, which is why you come to the lake in the first place. Our cove is quiet and the water is deep. Even when the lake is down, we usually have well over 10 feet in the boat slip at the dock at the end of the pea gravel path. Come and relax and see why this is our happy place!

Scenic location for a getaway
Everything was extremely organized and Elizabeth was excellent to work with. Really loved how there are so many sleeping options and two floors. We brought a toddler and so that presented some challenges with the fireplace and glass top furniture. The paddle boards were an unexpected perk and we ended up paddle boarding all over the lake. Would stay here again.
Clean, Comfortable Stay
Our family had a wonderful week at this property. The place was very clean and well stocked. It was beautifully decorated and had a place for everyone. We took our lunches outside on the deck each afternoon. Can't wait to go back!
We’re glad you liked it! Thank you for being such wonderful guests! Come back any time!
Lake house was super clean, really felt like home! Owners left great info for both arrival and departure and we followed them to the letter and our stay was great except due to our own schedule, we didnt get to enjoy the property as much as we would've liked! The water was deep, great fishing and swimming and just enjoyed the lake! House was very accommodating and would definitely stay again! Hit two of the local hot spots to eat (211 Main & Fish Lodge) and both were great!! Best strawberry cake just as owners said!
We're so glad you enjoyed it! Come again when you can stay a bit longer. There are many fun places to explore within an hour's drive, making our cabin a great "home base," and you just can't beat beautiful Lake Hartwell! We love having guests like you and hope you'll come again!
We had a wonderful stay in Lavonia for our son's graduation from Clemson. The house is beautiful with a lovely deck, patio and a dock on the lake. The hosts even decorated for us with balloons, flags and congratulations. What a lovely welcome it was! We were a little concerned about the traffic lengthening our trip over to graduation but it was not an issue. It is about a 45 minute trip. A summer week here with a boat rental would be fantastic...
Exceptional lake home
Lake Place Retreat was a wonderful place to stay!! Our family enjoys being at Lake Hartwell and this home is very clean, beautiful, and filled with everything you need to make your trip enjoyable!! The view was wonderful, the deck area was great for our morning coffee and lit up at night for some family time. My husband of course loves the fishing and our teenagers enjoyed the paddle boards. The owners are very helpful and detailed, which makes this a great place to stay!!
Thanks for being the kind of guests we love! We hope you will come back soon!
Everything and Then Some...
This house is exactly as described. It is immaculately kept and beautifully decorated. We were there for the Clemson/Carolina game over Thanksgiving weekend. It was so quiet and peaceful that it afforded our family some much needed rest and relaxation. The owners were readily available to answer any questions and to accommodate our stay. I would highly recommend this home to anyone, and will definitely return myself.
Thanks for your kind review! We hope you will come again!
Our cabin is in the quiet solitude of the country, but if you find yourself wanting to leave Lake Hartwell for a different adventure, there are many spots close enough for a fabulous day trip. The North Georgia mountains and Tallulah Falls are about 40 minutes away. Clemson University is about 45 minutes away. The Alpine village of Helen is about an hour west. The bustle and charm of Greenville, SC, is about an hour north. Toccoa and Lavonia both offer quaint shops and restaurants to explore (30 min & 10 min away.) Road Atlanta's motor speedway and several cute shops & eating spots are in Braselton about an hour south of us.
