Yarrunda: Place of Big Trees.

Bedrooms 3
Property type hotel

About the property

Nestled amongst 3.5 acres of towering gums in a spectacular park-like setting, Yarrunda is the ideal 'any season' getaway. Being only 10 minutes from SA's best beaches at Middleton and Goolwa, the property is perfectly positioned to provide Summer enjoyment, and the campfire (wood provided) and cosy wood combustion heater make for a perfect Winter retreat.

Imagine toasting marshmallows around the campfire on a cold, clear winters' night (please enquire about campfires as fire restrictions are usually in place between November and April, including total fire bans depending on the weather), lunching with friends at one of the numerous tree-shaded picnic areas on the property, watching the birds on the dam and lake, or spending a summers' day by the beach. And, of course, visiting the local Wine regions can take place at any time!!

Yarrunda is ideally located just 10 minutes from the major regional centres of Goolwa and Port Elliot, the fantastic surf at Middleton, and 15 minutes from Victor Harbor for all your shopping and cultural needs.

Imagine a day at the beach, any season, and coming home to Yarrunda with certainty that there are no nearby neighbours having parties, no disturbing noise - just tranquility, peace and quiet.

Nature lovers will delight in the abundant bird life with Yarrunda being 'home turf' for several Kookaburra, Magpie & Galah families, as well as a haven for Superb Blue Wrens, Rosellas, New Holland Honeyeaters and Firetail Finches to name just a few. A thriving nearby Kangaroo population and the occasional Echidna make this a true 'Aussie' paradise. And for those who enjoy hiking, the splendid Scott Conservation Park is a mere 2 minute walk away. Bring your bikes and take a picnic to enjoy a ride through Scott Conservation Park fire trails.

Completing the property is a delightful 3-bedroom contemporary design home with a warm, earthy atmosphere and spectacular views of the surrounding gardens and gum trees from picture windows in every room.

The home consists of a spacious open-plan living area complete with feature stone fireplace (equipped with fan-forced combustion heater), formal dining area, high raked ceilings and bright kitchen featuring bold trendy colours and incorporating new modern appliances. Other features of the home include 3 bedrooms (2 with built-ins -quilts & pillows provided, please bring own linen), refurbished character bathroom (separate toilet), and an under-cover courtyard. Verandahs all around add to the homestead appeal of Yarrunda, and many guests comment on the relaxing time they have spent on the verandah watching the array of birds and generally unwinding.

BBQ and outdoor seating/dining areas compliment the idea that Yarrunda, "place of big trees", is a place to unwind and relax, explore and enjoy. Indoors we have a range of games and DVDs and CDs, and even some books.

As people who have stayed in holiday accommodation ourselves, we believe that it is important to offer a range of experiences and make your life as easy as possible: Yarrunda has a lot: the indoors described above; the outdoor verandah areas; the lovely places around the property to sit, eat, enjoy; the amazing variety of birdlife seen on the dam and the smaller lake; the frogs to listen to; the chickens; the comfortable furnishings and easy layout, all contribute to an easy, relaxing holiday, whether you are a couple looking for quiet uninterrupted time, a family looking for a place within easy reach of the fantastic beaches at Middleton and Goolwa or the wineries of McLaren Vale, or a group of friends wanting somewhere to kickback and hangout, Yarrunda is a place to enjoy that is contained and quiet, picturesque in any season...a place to recharge, relax, rejuvenate.

The Fleurieu Peninsula area of Adelaide is home to a wide range of attractions from premier food and wine to remote and rugged coastline. Accessible picnic areas and safe beaches make this the ideal area for the family holiday, whilst the more adventurous can enjoy bushwalking, fishing, skydiving, surfing, waveboarding just to name a few.

Awesome location

  • 4 of 5

Great property, great location and very comfortable and tranquil.

The home was very clean - especially the windows to the beautiful view, and pretty much has everything you need - this was our second visit.

The addition of some broken chairs outside and other bits and pieces on the property lessened the ambient feel to a degree, however we loved our stay!

Love the tranquillity and peace

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Yarrunda. We love that it is so quiet and peaceful, and that we can be in Goolwa for lunch in ten minutes, or body boarding at Middleton within 10 mins too. Looking forward to staying again with friends

2nd time here

  • 3 of 5

We loved it so much 1st time we came back with friends 2nd time.

However.. our last night it rained so much the roof leaked in 3 seperate areas of the house. We woke up to a saturated lounge.

We moved furniture to prevent further damage, left the owners a note.

Thought we may hear from the owners eg; sorry for any inconvenience... nothing..

Some communication would have been nice. Just glad this did not happen on our first night.

Due to lack of communication we wont be back a third time.

Owner's Response: So sorry Michelle to hear about your problems with the roof! We have not been able to get to the property for some time due to family commitments, and were relying on the maintenance/cleaning crew to advise if there were any problems. Thank you so much for moving furniture to help us out. I wish we had been aware. We had a roofer come and fix the problem when we knew about the leak, but hadn't realised it had affected any guests. As you can imagine, we are pleased that so many people come back again. Please accept our sincere thanks for your efforts and apologies for the inconvenience.

Great property.

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay. A great destination to get back to nature and totally relax. The bird spotting was great entertainment, especially for our twelve year old. He also loved feeding the hens and collecting the eggs. So close to our favourite beach locations and yet so far away from the hustle and bustle.

Lovely property, but...

  • 3 of 5

Tranquil, gorgeous setting with LOTS of wildlife. Some maintenance required to improve safety and comfort. Host was not particularly helpful when the water ran out on the last night of our 4 night stay - not very pleasant having no water at all after a 37 degree day!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback Jane. As a country property, Yarrunda is entirely self reliant on rainwater, and, very infrequently an airlock can develop in the water lines, when one of the rainwater tank runs low. That will cause the automatic pump to stop for safety reasons. When we spoke on the phone that night, we gave instructions regarding how to restart the pump, and then arrived early the next morning to assist, however you had left already. I understand that you tried to start the pump a number of times, and I don't understand what might have happened I am happy to say that the pump was working when we arrived, and we haven't had any problems since.
