Phillip Island

Phillip Island has an array of natural and man made attractions to visit as well as a host of activities that will keep you entertained for hours. The Penguin Parade is one of the most well known and popular of the attractions on Phillip Island. Each evening just after the sun sets (at dusk) the little penguins or better known as fairy penguins, stroll up the beach to swim and after a period of time at sea to return to their burrows. The world's largest colony of Australian Fur Seals can be found on a rocky outcrop, known as Seal Rocks, about 5km from Surf Beach House. Wildlife Coast Cruises has daily trip out to the Seal Rock during most of the year, while Phillip Island Helicopters have some great scenic flights that will give you a birds eye view of the Island and Seal Rocks. Koalas can be viewed at the Koala Conservation Centre, while kangaroos, wallabies and possums are fairly abundant around Phillip Island. The wetlands and bush areas on Phillip Island are home to an abundance of birds, while many migratory birds nest on the island during certain times of the year. All of these native animals can also be seen close up at the Phillip Island Wildlife Park on the main road to Cowes.

Both Adults and children will enjoy many of the other attractions found on Phillip Island and San Remo such as the Amaze N Things with it giant maze, mini golf and indoor illusions centre, while the National Vietnam Veterans Museum is a surprise package with it great displays and information such as the HueyCobra gunship. Some of the other attractions on and around Phillip Island include The Fun Shed, The Chocolate Factory, Grumpys Waterslide, Rhyll Fishing Park, Pelican Feeding, Phillip Island Winery, Purple Hen Winery and Mingara Gallery. Fishing is a very popular activity and T-Cat Charters specialise in fishing trip in Westernport bay and out in Bass Strait.

Access to Phillip Island is via a bridge between San Remo, on the Victorian mainland, and Newhaven on Phillip Island. The island has an area of about 10,000 Hectares, and the landscape is slightly undulating with the highest point being Cape Woolamai at 109 metres (357 ft) above sea level. The island has approximately 101 kilometres (60 miles) of coastline with the south and part of the west coast being exposed to the open ocean, Bass Strait. This gives the island some of the best surf beaches and scenic coastline in Australia. The northern coastline is situated in Westernport Bay and offers great sandy beaches that have calm and safe swimming areas, while the western coastline has a number of bays and inlets that contain magnificent mangrove flats.

Phillip Island Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Michele - my sister and her family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your property. Very close to everything - 10 minute drive to penguins and 5 minute drive to Cowes! There is a view of the surf beach as it is less than 2 minutes walk. A true paradise. Spacious rooms and large entertainment area! Sorry we couldn't stay longer but plan on returning soon!!

Huge house enough space for everyone!!!!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay we had 4 adults and 2 children it location was really good. There were ocean views from the living room. The only down side was that the split system A/C wasn't working but the owners provided another heater to use instead.

We were very happy with our stay and will back.

We had a great time, BUT . . .

  • 3 of 5

5 middle aged ladies catching up after way too long in a great house, we had a wonderful evening with lots of laughter, wine and food. There was no hot water for the wash up but we thought maybe off peak? However, when we came to shower the next morning there was still no hot water. Have attempted to contact the owner but have not had a response, which is disappointing.

Owner's Response: When I received the guest's voicemail about the hotwater it was 10am and the guests had already departed. Unfortunately the ladies did not read the guest instructions booklet which contains the number for RACV emergency home assist. I called the RACV and they sent a plumber to the house within the hour who replaced the element in the heater and it was working straight away. I apologise for the inconvenience.

Brilliant modern house by the beach

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent house for 7 adults. It was clean, modern and had everything (cards, games, it's a kids dream home). It has a sunny balcony and huge back yard. A stones throw away from surf beach. It is so well equipped and the host Michelle is so friendly and nice. It has full linens and towels too. We will be back!!!

Great spot close to the ocean

  • 3 of 5

House is a good size and layout. However, some of the appliances did not work (i.e. dishwasher, DVD player), few beds saggy and the property is a bit tired and yard a bit overgrown.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. It seems the power to the island was disconnected for repairs during part of your stay and some of the appliances were affected. They are definitely all working perfectly now - dishwasher & DVD are only 8 weeks old. I have replaced the single mattresses on the bottom bunks so they are lovely and firm for the children. Apologies if the lawn was overgrown; the gardener only comes once a month during winter. Looking forward to welcoming you back. Michele
