A Very Picturesque, Multi-Enjoyable 80-Acre Semi-Forested Farm Located in the Middle of Amish Country, Northwest of Mio, Michigan (Huron National Forest / AuSable State Forest)

The Farm is literally just minutes from AuSable River fishing, swimming, picnicking; canoeing/kayaking/tubing and launch sites. In addition, the Huron National Forest and AuSable State Forest offer hundreds of miles of trails for Hiking, Horseback Riding, ORV, Motorcycle and Groomed Snowmobile trails. By the way, ORV's are allowed on all Oscoda County Roads... Hey Golfers; ever heard of Garland? Just 13 miles away! Not a bad drive to enjoy a few great ones...

Our Farmhouse: Our quaint and cozy farmhouse, with a wrap-around valley view country porch, sleeps 4 to 6 and has been fully renovated (inside and out/top to bottom); especially the refurbishment of the original farm-grown and on-site milled hardwood flooring throughout, including the two upstairs bedrooms. The farmhouse features air-conditioning units on both floors; propane heat; free wifi: HD TV; Satellite DIRECTV; and Blu-ray Disc/DVD Player. Carbon dioxide, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting also provided. For your arrival security, a pre-assigned coded entry pad (no keys) awaits your private code input. For your convenience, the entry pad allows you to enter your own private entry code for the duration of your stay.

The Living Room consists of a full size La-Z-Boy Sleeper couch that pulls out to comfortably sleep two. An HD TV with DIRECTV and Blu-ray DVD/Disc player rounds out this entertainment center.

Kitchen and Dining Room: The Fully-Equipped Tiled Kitchen, with two tiled entries, is all stainless steel with two electric stove tops, each with overhead venting; oven; micro-wave and oven combination; dishwasher; ice making side-by-side refrigerator/freezer; 12-cup automatic drip coffee maker; electric can opener; blender; mixer; safety toaster; dish towels and wash cloths; and Amish made Hickory cabinets. A gas grill, located just off the end of the lower deck, is also available for your outdoor grilling.

The Dining Room, located between the kitchen and living room, is very handy for preparing and serving snacks or meals from the peninsula stovetop kitchen counter. An antique dining room table, with an overhead stained glass chandelier, can seat six and can be extended to comfortably seat more (or, if nothing else, for the convenient placement of food). It is a warming experience having dinner, and through the dining room windows, watching big snowflakes floating down.

Our Property: The 80 acres consist of rolling/hilly meadows overlooking an awesome panoramic view of miles of the AuSable River Valley Forest; and a 3 acre, spring(s)-fed, stocked pond (beach deep up to 36 feet) featuring a 'right-on-the-shoreline' finished fishing cabin that offers electricity, propane heat, ceiling fan, covered porch and raised fire pit.

The property is as natural as natural can get. . . Groomed trails lead down from the meadows, through hardwood and evergreen forests (consisting of beautiful wooded valleys with four flowing streams) to and through beautiful cedar swamps.

The Pond-Side Finished Fishing Cabin makes for an excellent hangout for tubing, catch and release fishing, etc.

The farm house was well prepared and very accommodating. We loved the front porch for morning coffee and watched the birds. We saw the pileated woodpeckers which was a first. The hummers came regularly. We also experienced a group of about 20 wild turkeys - adults and young and younger ones. The children loved fishing in the pond and paddling their kayaks.

Even Better!

This was our third trip to the Farmhouse for our annual Father/Son trip. We love this place, so we were weary of the change in ownership. To our delight, we found it to be all we expected and then-some! Not that it was needed, but there were many small improvements/additions.

Upon arrival, the first thing that jumped out at us was the cornfields. In the past, “farmhouse,” was just the name. Now, it actually IS a farm! Overall, it adds a new variable to the already diverse landscape. Inside the house was very clean and had everything we needed.

Our first couple days it rained quite a bit, but we were still able to ride around the property during the breaks. We also spent time fishing when it was raining. We were able to fish from under the cover of the fishing hut….awesome! During the nice weather, we played Baggo, hiked, fished and rode the area trail-system on our dirt-bikes.

It was another great year. Can’t wait for 2018!!!

Beautiful house and property, awesome hosts

My husband and I and a couple friends stayed at this house for the weekend. The house and property are beautifully decorated and maintained. Michelle and her family were excellent hosts. There were a ton of amenities, as well as a welcome basket and fresh baked brownies! Michelle always responded promptly to inquiries and provided all information in a timely manner. House was very clean.

Close to Au sable river for boating and tubing.

We will definitely com again!

Great time was had by all!

Our family loves spending time together in this place. Just walking in feels like coming home again. Along with the ATV activities, we were able to enjoy the property pond this visit, and my non fishermen peeps, became fans. Was nice walking the property trails every morning, enjoying the wild flowers, wild life, and the quiet. A great place to unwind! We were also able to enjoy other local outdoor activities, as the access to the river is not too far away. Also the farmers market, flea market, and Amish bakery are very close by. Michelle was a very gracious host.

Fantastic Property in the heart of Huron National Forest

We took our two horses up to this property to ride local trails including the Michigan Shore to Shore Trail. The owners of this property are extremely helpful, friendly and inviting. The house is a very updated two bedroom farm house. Excellent decorations and decor. The view from the house, down some rolling hills towards the Ausable River is one of the best views in the area. Everything possibly needed is included at the house including a grill, fire pit, internet, direct TV, outside chairs, grill, fishing pond, and trails on the property and nearby. I would strongly recommend this property for family get-togethers and for other ATV or horse owners. The owners are great to work with and can help you with any questions or vacationing inquiries that you might have.

We have stayed at many vacation rentals and this one was definitely a top one.

For ATV owners, there are hundreds of miles of trails in less than a 30 minute drive from the property.

For horse owners, there are some two track trails available right from the home (within 3/4 mile to the North). The Michigan Shore to Shore Trail can be accessed from McKinley Camp (30 minutes/12 miles to the East) or Luzerne Trail Camp (25 minutes, 14 miles to the West). In our opinion the most interesting ride was from Luzerne Trail Camp heading towards the East. This trail included the very long boardwalk that you could walk your horses over and a place to get access to the stream (for drinking water for the horses).

There is a lot of canoeing available on the Ausable, with two outfitters within 5 miles of the property. The property is also only about 45 minutes from Lake Huron for swimming and sight seeing. 1 mile to the East of the property is an Amish bakery that is well worth stopping at.

Rates are based on 4 Farmhouse guests. Payments are as follows: $250 deposit to book the farmhouse. Then, 50% of balance is due 30 days prior to rental. The final payment is due 7 days prior to arrival.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
