About the property

Ready to get away from the crowds, grab a bit of peace and quiet, some cool breezes and some amazing views or ....just relax at the waterhole? Special deals on offer for Jan / Feb. Just ask.

This place is special! Escape....Relax...Enjoy....Stonehouse Style. You will want to come back.

This unique hand-built masterpiece of natural stone, raw timbers, recycled materials and polished concrete, sits on the edge of the Ravensbourne / Scenic Rim escarpment. It is surrounded by 175 acres of beautiful Australian Bush and neighbours the Deongwar State Forest Reserve.

Originally built as a private lodge the house is, for the first, time open to the public and available for short term rentals and get-aways.

Looking for a romantic getaway? Need to recharge the batteries? Got a big family or lots of friends? Look no further!

The Stonehouse Retreat is certainly the answer if you are looking to avoid crowded beaches this summer. Set at 520m above sea level you can be assured of cool breezes. The views from the decks, lounge and kitchen are truly incredible and stretch for hundreds of kilometres around the Scenic Rim and over a number of lakes including Wivenhoe. Beautiful Lake Cressbrook is only 15 minutes up the road.

This place is different The house operates on eco friendly / sustainable living principles and is completely "off the grid" operating on a state of the art solar system which is backed up by wind power (and a back up generator). All water is harvested onsite.

3 x magnificent main bedrooms, a modern well equipped kitchen, large comfortable rustic lounge including a fire place and huge decks set the scene for relaxation, conversation and memories which will stay with you forever. The house has two bathrooms and two toilets.

The master bedroom is ideal for couples looking for a romantic weekend and it is possible to book the house without the additional bedrooms etc. Honeymooners love it!

Sleeping Capacity... 2 x King Beds (one King can be split into 2 singles if necessary) and 1 x Queen Bed. A forth optional "bunkroom" is also available taking sleeping capacity to 9 (shared basis). The "bunkroom" is basic but very comfortable and ideal for kids or the extra friends. It is essentially a 4th bedroom and is part of the house - not separate. If the kids want to camp-out that is possible.

Getting there...The Stonehouse Retreat is 1 hour and 25 minute scenic drive or ride from Brisbane via Esk. and approx. 45 minutes from Toowoomba via Hampton. The access road is a well maintained 400m dirt track that is suitable for normal passenger vehicles..

Things to do....Use it as a base for day rides or drives to the Lakes or the Bunya Mountains / drop into Esk for some country charm and a great burger / Visit Ravensbourne National Park / Bushwalk in the local Crows Nest National Park / Picnic / Visit Lake Cressbrook / organise a Horseride at Crowsnest / Fish / Canoe / Sail. Mountain Bike the numerous tracks in the neighbouring Deongwar State Forest; Cyclists - the climbs, loops and options are many and very scenic! Birdwatchers and Photographers will love it! Get a massage (by special arrangement); orgaise a yoga session - instructor comes to you. Visit the local pubs, antique stores and cafes and galleries. Visit Toowoomba and the wonderful gardens on offer. Explore the bush trails on the property and find your own quiet special place to sit and listen. Chill out, connect and recharge.Maybe organise a session of clay target shooting (by prior arrangement / external provider sets up onsite / additional) Note: ALL wildlife is protected.

Catering.....The Stone House is a self catering venue. Specialist catering support is available on request. We will refer you to local providers of great fare. Support with larger birthday functions or meeting events is also possible. The local Pubs and Cafes offer options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

PET FRIENDLY....and lots of space to run! There is a large totally secure "dog lounge" on the end of the deck and 150m2 of secure verandah space.

StoneHouse Seasons....At 520m above sea level and positioned on the edge of the escarpment you can be assured of cool refreshing breezes.

- Winter....what a place to stay! Fog, fireplace ....romantic and memorable. Many of our 2015 and 2016 guests are already re-booking.

- Spring...time to get active and enjoy nature waking up! Bushwalks, photography, a game of darts or chess.

- Summer...cool breezes, thunderstorms rolling in on the Scenic Rim, our private waterhole, the nearby lakes and a cold drink on the deck,

- Autumn...just like Spring and time to get active by foot or bring your mountain / road bike. Take a day drive for a picnic or head up to Toowoomba to take in the magnificent gardens and colourful change of season.

Be assured, the magnificent views and a cold beer or a glass of wine on the deck never goes out of season at The Stonehouse!

Note: Being an "eco friendly bush retreat" and " off the grid", our guests appreciate that they will be surrounded by nature and they will have some simple hands on jobs to do re checking power usage, topping up supply if needed by turning on a generator etc. None of this is hard to handle....but it is a different experience.

Check us (and other specials) out on Facebook or on "the stonehouse retreat "website.

We hope to see you soon. We know you will come back!

(Please Note: Minimum stay on public holiday/ long weekends = 3 nights. Friday Saturday nights not able to be split unless part of a longer booking. Special function events by arrangement)
