About the property

Designed by award-winning architect Maria Gigney and meticulously maintained by the owners, the Bruny Island Weekender is a stylish, compact and sunny beach house in the increasingly popular seaside village of Dennes Point on North Bruny Island. It has attractive elevated views over bush and across to the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, Tinderbox, North West Bay and the Wellington Range beyond.

-The front pavilion has two bedrooms (a king and a twin) with a shared ensuite bathroom between, (including a massive indoor shower with elevated views of the channel).

-The living pavilion has a stainless steel galley kitchen, dining table and Eames dining chairs.

-The comfortable living area has a TV/DVD, leather lounge and armchairs, with water and bushland views from the expansive windows.

-The living pavilion has a heat pump and there are panel heaters in the bedrooms.

-The pavilions are joined by a large enclosed deck with a wood fire, lounge and antique huon-pine shop-table and Eames chairs.

-In front of the living pavilion there is a sun deck overlooking the channel with a bath on wheels.

-There is a gas barbecue tucked down the side.

-There is also an outhouse with laundry and toilet .

Particular features of the property include the use of Tasmanian timbers, including polished silver wattle floors, celery top pine deck and oiled Tas Oak cladding; double glazing or UV glass throughout, an outdoor shower and a moveable bath on the deck; and internal wall and ceiling linings of hoop-pine ply.

It's a short two minute walk to the safe and sheltered Nebraska Beach. The new bistro, art gallery and providore at The Point are within a short drive on Nebraska Road or a pleasant walk along the beach and foreshore.

Beautiful house

  • 4 of 5

we have enjoyed our stay. The house was more than we have expected, will definitely go back there again. Outside bath was fun for kids. The design of the house was very interesting and simple and it worked quite well. The only let down I am saying this not to criticise just let the owner know that it should have been prepared a bit better. So if the cleaners are responsible for that, make it ready to lit fireplace, paper towels a bit more cleaning staff would have been perfect perfect.

Owners hadn't booked cleaner so I had a bit of a wait for the shack to be cleaned. Luckily I hadn't arrived at night, being such a remote location that would've been highly problematic. The place was Very dusty throughout, & greasy dishes had been put away dirty. Owner emailed to apologise for cleaning error, offering a nights accomodation refunded for my inconvenience. I was happy with that considerate offer, however after two weeks it has failed to come through. My email asking about it has been ignored. Very poor management and communication from start to finish, ending on quite a rude note to offer a refund then not honour the offer. I won't be recommending the weekender.

Gorgeous Property.

  • 5 of 5

This is a gorgeous property with beautiful views and a peaceful location. The house was clean and comfortable. We could open the whole house up to take in the views and the wildlife but were still screened from insects and warm from the fireplace. We didn't want to leave!

Great place to relax

  • 4 of 5

The house is well designed & comfortable. Loved being able to have the wood heater going on a cold Tassie Spring night. Enjoyed relaxing with a local Pinot & some Bruny Island cheese. House is close to a lovely beach, which is good for kayaking. Beds comfortable, clean linen & extra blankets available. Electric blankets on the single beds. The house was not as clean as I would expect, but only minor things such as; dust & some cooking items greasy. Great view from the shower. Location is away from the main tourist areas on Bruny, but this is not a disadvantage if you wish to just relax & have a few days away from the hustle & bustle. Is only 37km drive though to be at Adventure Bay (takes about 50mins due to gravel/windy roads). The Bruny Island Weekender has some basic supplies, but as there is only limited range of groceries to buy on Bruny you are best to take most items with you. There is a wonderful cafe at Dennes Point & they do also sell basic supplies. Just check opening hours, as many places have short opening times on Bruny.

Perfect little hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time at the Bruny Island Weekender. It's the perfect little home away from home. Very comfortable, clean and private. We loved the indoor/outdoor area with the wood heater. Perfect location in the best part of Bruny. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.

good location

  • 2 of 5

Very expensive for a house with a leaky roof that rendered one of the main rooms unusable, as it was the middle room a lot of time stepping over buckets. Would have been nice to know this before we paid in full and everywhere else booked out

Owner's Response: Wow, Heather. I'm a bit sad by this. Until it rained we didn't know either that this newly enclosed area leaked. We talked about this. Sometimes you just can't do the right thing by people. Yes, you stayed at the property and there was a leak in the recently renovated indoor/outdoor area. The builders were trying to come up with a solution. We even gave you a retrospective discount of a whole night's tariff and then you give us such a slagging off. Sometimes I wonder why we share our beautiful little shack with people.
