Well equipped 2 bedroom cottage sleeps up to 5 plus baby. There is a large enclosed garden with fruit and nut trees and lawns. We have baby equipment including cots. The cottage has a fully fitted and equipped gourmet kitchen, luxurious bathrooms, beautifully appointed bedrooms with best quality bedding (we offer a linen service and cleaning). We are located in the village near the river and vineyards and offer wonderful walks and cycling. A holiday in our cottage offers you a peaceful break with lots of interesting places to visit, a chance to taste the local wines and excellent restaurants nearby.
I am a private owner living in England but who loves France and the way of life. John and I visit the cottages several times a year to ensure all is going well and to have a lovely time there ourselves and with our family. I spend a lot of time painting while I am there and John looks after the maintenance. We are both retired doctors though when we bought the cottages we were very busy now we have more time to enjoy our lovely home.
Ann Palmer purchased this cottage in 1989
John and I bought this lovely farmstead soon after we moved to the south of England; we wanted somewhere for our family to visit within easy reach of home. We chose Vrigny as it is in the country but not isolated and it is close to Chenonceau our favourite chateau, it is central for visiting all the castles in the Loire Valley and also the vineyards, our local wines are so good and being so close to the vineyards we can participate in the vendange (harvest). We developed the property over the years; the 3 cottages are independent and you can enjoy your own space, there is also the advantage you will meet some really interesting people - or bring your friends and share two or three cottages together.
We love our home in Vrigny because it is close to the river and vineyards; it has a lovely large garden in which we grow fruit for everyone to enjoy, and we can sit in the courtyard and relax and let the world go by. Even better when we do decide to go out we are so close to Chenonceau (the most visited chateau after Versailles) that we have bought ourselves season tickets so we can enjoy the lovely grounds and beautiful setting as often as possible, The lovely walks in the vineyards and along the river really enhance any trip (it is possible to walk right along to Chenonceau and further to Blere or in the other direction to Montrichard and St Aignan). We have a market to choose from every day of the week and our local restaurants are very very good. We enjoy exploring the lovely wineries and have closen some of the best around to put on a list for our visitors. We will bombard you with information to help you enjoy your stay in our cottages.
We are so enjoying our stay in Maison Doiseau – walnut tree in courtyard and cottage covered in flowering Wisteria and all to a high standard in character. Thank you. Restaurants de Bellevue in Montrichard excellent menu terroir €26 fantastic value didn’t try the €38 or €52; Cheval Rouge was fully booked and also Delice de Mets in St Georges was good but wise to book.
beautiful restored cottage in Loire area, nearby al lot off castles, the property was clean and well-maintained (nice kitchen and living room with all the equipment), nice garden for the children to play in
My 7-day holiday in the Loire Valley with accommodation at Maison d'Oiseau was fabulous. The cottage was charming, comfy and so spacious for three adults - Grand-mère, Papa, Maman - and one busy toddler! I had come from Canada to join my son and his family who live in Bordeaux. We left the busy city and had a relaxing stay in our wonderful gîte. Thank you so much, Ann Palmer, for this delightful get-away which proved to be a highlight of my five-week vacation in France. My daughter-in-law is a great cook and was thrilled with the well-equipped country kitchen. My grandson loved having the yard to play in and my son, who is a sommelier, took advantage of the location for wine tours including a visit at the neighbouring Domaine Vincent Lacour. Each day, we had an outing as there is so much to see and do in this area. But most of all, it was so good to just spend time together either inside the cottage or outside at the picnic table or on the lounge chairs under the stars at night. I am so glad that I found this gem listed on the Internet and was able to stay there with my family.
We had a wonderful, quiet 10 day stay over the Christmas holiday. Everything about the property was as advertised or better. We chose to cook our own meals and the kitchen was stocked with anything and everything we needed. The cottage was well heated and we used the wood stove daily Our only activities were driving around the countryside, visiting historic sites and wineries. The owner responded quickly anytime we had a question or concern. The cottage was very well built, clean, stocked, equipped and well maintained. If the opportunity were to arise we would return and recommend the property to anyone who asks about it.
We have just enjoyed a great week at Maison Doiseau with our two young boys, aged three and one.
The cottage was lovely and full of little touches that made holidaying with little people that bit easier. The huge, secure garden with swings and lots of trees was great for hide and seek. There was also enough space for the boys to play inside when the weather was a bit too warm for them.
The cottage itself felt really homely with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including highchairs, plates and cutlery for the children and a great outside eating area. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and spacious and the kitchen was really well equipped.
The location was brilliant. We found a few walks from the cottage which led to a stream and little bridge in the woods - perfect for hot afternoons. We also walked through the vineyard which was lovely. Highlights for us were a trip to Chenonceau, the aquarium near Amboise and the three year old loved 'Mini Chateaux' great value for money for a three year old with lots to explore and unlimited turns on the couple of rides they have there.
The owner's son and daughter in law stayed next door and made us feel extremely welcome. All in all would thoroughly recommend!
Only thing we would change would be a few more tumbler glasses in the kitchen please.
Thanks for a lovely stay.
Very nice property - exactly as described. Would happily recommend this
property. Chenonceau was amazing and even allowed us to take our dog!
As did the garden festival at Chaumont. (Well worth a visit.)
Anne was very helpful, as our booking was very last minute.
We had a wonderful time in Maison Doiseau for many reasons. On arrival we felt immediately at home as the house is equipped with everything you could think of needing. Ann had sent us such precise and detailed information about the property, the surrounding area and what to expect that we were at ease immediately. We had no questions and no problems as everything was so clear and straightforward. The kitchen has dried food stuffs in the cupboards so we had no need to panic about not having the basics for cooking. This was a real gam changer!
The house is excellently located and we had a wonderful time exploring the Loire valley. We made full use of the bicycles in the garage and this made for some lovely bike rides throng the vineyards. We would recommend visiting the winery of Antoine Simoneau very nearby for some fun wine tasting and for delicious white wine we went to Vouvray to Domaine Jean-Claude et Didier Aubert.
Although this house is fantastic, I feel I should explain my 4* rating. The decorations of the house is rather outdated. This did not affect our stay at all and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed break either in a small group of friends (as we were) or a family, however, if you set looking for a modern newly renovated house then this is not the house. I would however say that when renting, it is rather nice not to have to worry about being somewhere pristine and characterless and walking around on tip toes so it was perfect for us!
Thank you Ann for such a fantastic trip. Our holiday wouldn't have been the same!
Located near the River Cher in the central Loire Valley region and the Touraine vineyards, our cottages are situated in the heart of the Loire Valley chateau region valley of the kings, so are well placed for visiting the historic castles and towns of Chenonceaux, Chambord, Villandry, Azay-sur-Cher and Chinon and many others as well as the interesting towns on the river Loire including Amboise, Blois, Tours and Saumur.
