Resort Developer Taps Disney Resources for The Ultimate Group Vacation Club Home
The owners are far from typical, and believe that vacation home designing is an art extending way beyond the material selection and finishes found in a typical home. Aurora Point has marble bathrooms, lighted etched-glass artworks, gas fireplaces and jacuzzis -- and that is just in the master suites, but it also is an entertainment complex, purposely designed for family and group reunions of all ages and in all seasons! Before drafting the house, we blueprinted the fun for every activity, and part of our think-tank process was considering where adults and children of each age group would congregate while together and on their own. Why Owner chose Timberline
We specialize in building vacation properties with jaw-dropping views in quintessential locations. The structure sits up high on a point, where ski slopes and horse and bike trails form around it on both sides. You actually have to drive over a ski slope bridge to get to its location in. It is also located within 5 minutes of the Canaan Valley Ski Resort There are wide open ski slopes below it also, so from this unique perch, guests enjoy a clear view all the way down the mountain to the lake and valley below. This lot gave us goosebumps when we first saw it, and we believe that it is the nicest location in Canaan Valley. West Virginia in the summer.
To start, the house is great. The hosts communicated well and everything including the electronics and video worked. The view from the house was nice. The kitchen is well stocked and the hibachi grill was fun. The golf course was in good shape and well run. The lodge served our table of 14 well and the food was good. Try the lobster Mac and cheese. If you are into waterfalls try Douglas falls. It gets some strange reviews but the road to it was great and the falls are very accessible, you can safely climb behind them!
The negatives were tolerable. The road to the house is a mile and poorly maintained. They had a rainstorm the week before that exacerbated the problem but with a government road in this state I see the problem getting worse. The hosts recommended an suv and I agree.
Another problem is during the summer most ale houses and mountain brewing are closed during the week. State supported venues only, the smokehouse at black water falls and Canaan resort, which are both good.
All in all a great trip with an August high of 76.
Great get away place!
Located on the slopes of the Timberline Resort, this house is well equipped for a multi-group/family stay!
An honest review. (Summer visit)
The house was great overall and as advertised. There was plenty of room for our 11 guests and more. The view was amazing. The towns nearby were fun to visit. There were beautiful places to go see nearby and some unique shops, galleries, and places to eat. There was a lot more to do around the area than I expected but don’t expect anything within walking distance other than Mother Nature.
The sign up process was a bit of a hassle but ended up being worth it and once the ball was rolling ownership was easier to reach and responded well.
We did find a couple minor issues when we arrived but ownership responded immediately and even sent people to make sure everything was okay even though we had told them they weren’t urgent matters. (Really just things we didn’t want to be blamed for...broken hot tub cover that still functioned, a slow toilet that still functioned, a sliding door latch not working but in a place where no one could get to from outside anyway so our safety wasn’t in question)
Housekeeping could have been better. Nothing was filthy so I don’t want to paint the wrong picture but we definitely left the place cleaner than we found it. (Grill was pretty dirty and grease trap hadn’t been emptied in some time, jacuzzis needed ran and cleaned before use, and just other minor things that I’d expect my housekeeper to do before guests arrive.)
So while there were a couple of things that I have to note to be honest about the place, we were still quite happy with ownership, the home and all that it offered us to do when there, the absolutely amazing views, and enjoyed venturing out to the nearby places. I was pleasantly surprised by all we found to do. We would definitely consider returning or recommend to someone whose never been.
Hi Dan, thank you so much for writing a review. Our goal is to create the perfect group getaways for all of our guests to enjoy a spotless home with working amenities for all guests to enjoy! This is why we are in the business and continue to strive to improve for all of our guests. Our team goal at all of our quarterly inspections is to deliver a "Clean Sparkling House and hot tub water with properly adjusted amenities and electronics so that our guests can enjoy the features that we promote and promise!" We are so thrilled that your group enjoyed the house and the surrounding area and that we could live up to your expectations! We do apologize about the sign up process. We normally like to contact our guests directly to pre-screen them and answer any questions, but unfortunately with new HomeAway an VRBO policies, we are unable to see our customers contact information before booking so sometimes it can cause some confusion but rest assured we work diligently to make it as seamless as possible and provide you the best FAQ's and information about the house as soon as possible! We have a checklist for our cleaners and clean the grill and grease trap as well as the griddle and grease trap between each rental! Rarely is something missed, but if something was we wish that you had shared a photo with us or given us some more information when your group had checked in for us to address the issue if there was a problem. Our commercial griddle is also cleaned before each stay, but we do apply a coat of vegetable oil to the griddle to prevent it from rusting and oxidizing, perhaps that is what you meant. We do mention this in our FAQ letter before checking in so our guests understand that the clear oil on the griddle is coated there intentionally so that the surface does not rust for our guests. Regarding the hot tub and Jacuzzi. We change the hot tub water after each guest so that the water is completely fresh and we of course clean the Jacuzzi tubs before each stay. We also wish you had sent a picture or brought this to our attention if there was an issue. As we do with each team meeting that we have once a quarter, we will bring up these items to ensure they are being resolved. Cleanliness is normally something that we are constantly complimented on and take great pride in. We are so glad you had a good stay with us overall and hope you will come back and stay with us again. Kind Regards, Slopes to Sands Dream Vacation Homes.
Great Property for a Multi-Generational Family Get-away
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. Each year we try to get our family together so we all stay connected. We had a blast here - adults and teens. The views are great from the hot tub. Prepared a great meal together -plenty of space and equipment to do this and then for the treat of sitting together to enjoy it. Teens enjoyed the video game tournament they had. Questions we had before check-in were answered promptly. Thanks for the memories!
Incredible home with any / all features and amenities one could want in a ski home!
Spacious, clean and well-thought home. Made our stay more of an “experience” than just a place to sleep and eat! Technology and activities in abundance to compliment the awesome ski in / ski out location. Can’t wait for,our next stay and our kids are now officially spoiled for life! Lol
Thanks for making this beautiful home available!
Great ski on, ski off location but lacking some of the advertised features
The property is beautiful but the kitchen lacks the basics to prepare a meal for 16 (TINY colinder, no casserole dishes, crockpot or roasting pans). The hibachi grill is gorgeous but I received multiple documents warning us of the fines that we would incur if it was not cleaned property, so many in fact that we were very nervous to use it. The ice makers in both refrigerators were also not working. We were not provided the bathrobes in the master bedrooms that were advertised. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large and beautiful and the views of the mountain from the house were gorgeous. The rental company was very accommodating and responded to phone calls or emails promptly.
Carolgene, thank you for your complimentary review about our beautiful home, the scenic views of the surrounding area the design of the house provides, and most importantly, the comments about our customer service which is paramount. Our homes are designed with our guests in mind and with the goal of providing an unforgettable group vacation.
We do quality control checks before each stay to ensure all amenities are working; however, occasionally an item can break without warning during a stay. That is why we provide all guests with information about the multiple ways we can be reached before and during their stay. After making a reservation, we include this information in a guest’s account portal, and it is again provided in a pre-check-in email sent to the guest. When we are notified of such a situation, we do our best to immediately address the issue. In your case, we wish your group had notified us that the ice maker stopped working. We would gladly have delivered multiple bags of ice for your use while waiting for the ice maker to be repaired .
Also, we are sorry that the equipment your group felt they needed to cook a particular recipe was not out. We wish your needs had been communicated to us. We keep some extras of these items on site. We so not leave them out because we do not want to over-clutter the kitchen for our guests. Our literature does indicate that we provide what “most” groups need for cooking, but any specialty items, such as electric crock pots and turkey carvers, etc., should be brought by the guest to be sure they have they have what they need for preparing any special meal. We try to keep an array of high-end scratch resistant cooking pans, pots, and cooking dishes to accommodate cooking for most groups.
The Teppanyaki griddle is a one of the many amenities at the house that our guests love. We do ask that guests read the instructions on how to use and clean this grill properly. We also provide access to a video and ask that it be watched so our guests feel comfortable using it. As the grill does get extremely hot, we do give a cautionary warning to be especially careful that children do not get close to the grill or the surrounding granite to prevent an accidental burn. I am sorry if the instructions and caution caused you hesitation to use it.
We do appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. We always are open to learning from our guests and improving. We are so glad your group had a fantastic stay.

Attractions and amenities that may be out of service or need repair during your stay
Our dream homes have a great deal of electronics and equipment such as hot tubs, computers, wireless routers, theaters, cable TV, bubble hockey, TVs, stereos, fireplaces, etc. These items receive about 20 times the use of products in a typical home. In many ways our homes are like an amusement park that may occasionally have an attraction that is out. We buy quality items, keep them maintained and buy service contracts on them but we do not guarantee them and unfortunately they are not immune to breakdowns and occasionally need repairs. We keep spares of some items, call repairmen immediately, but will NOT provide refunds if an amenity is not working due to circumstances beyond our control.
We buy the fastest internet speeds available but since our homes are in remote locations, it will be slower than you are used to at home and others in your party may have to log-off all devices to stream audio and video such as Netflix.
