Fishing from the jetty, beach, boat or nearby Harriet River mouth is excellent.
GET BACK TO NATURE. UNTOUCHED SAND ON UNCROWDED BEACHES
Kangaroo Island is like a zoo without walls. A pristine wilderness offering protection to substantial populations of native Australian animals. An island of extraordinary natural scenic beauty and the ideal place to escape, relax and unwind.
IDEAL BASE TO EXPLORE THE SOUTH COAST
Vivonne Bay is centrally located on the South Coast of the island providing easy access via sealed roads to Kangaroo Island's most popular natural attractions. Serenity Cottage is an ideal base to explore Seal Bay, Kelly Hill Caves, Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch - and is no more than an hour and a quarter's drive to anywhere on the island.
Other nearby attractions well worth a visit include: Raptor Domain (Birds of Prey & Fang-tastic); Rustic Blue Gallery & Cafe; Andermel Marron (marron farm, restaurant and cellar door) and Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Local business, KI Outdoor Action offers Quad Bike Guided Tours for both beginners and experienced riders. The best way to see an otherwise inaccessible part of Kangaroo Island. Their 'Wildlife Dusk Tour' guarantees you will see kangaroos up close in their natural environment - a highlight for anyone visiting the island.
Single or Double Kayaks are also available for hire. Paddle up to five kilometres of the calm and meandering Harriet River with a variety of birds and other wildlife. Relax as you enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Hit the slopes at Little Sahara with a sandboard or toboggan. A system of naturally occurring giant sand dunes. A steep climb to the top but the views are magic!
The one bedroom renovated cottage sleeps two guests and provides a relaxed environment - ideal for a romantic getaway, a private retreat for one, or two close friends/family members travelling together.
The cosy bedroom has a queen size bed, with comfortable quilts and an electric blanket for the cooler season.
Serenity Cottage has a light filled, open plan kitchen/dining/living area with high cathedral ceilings and north-facing picture windows all around that draw the peaceful ambience inside.
A large, curved, stone-wall deck extends off the living area with easy access via french doors. The elevated, tree-top alfresco area is an ideal spot for a barbecue or outdoor dining.
The front verandah overlooks the garden and provides another spot to sit and enjoy the tranquility. There is plenty of bird life to watch and opportunities to spot possums and wallabies in the garden - especially at dusk.
The distinctive grey building with red front door and dry stone walling is quite unique. Inside the cottage has a bright, clean, fresh, relaxed, modern beach house feel. It has been lovingly decorated with lots of homely and quirky touches that add charm and immediate appeal.
The contemporary and fully equipped kitchen provides ample cupboard space, a full size fridge/freezer, oven/grill, cooktop, microwave, kettle & toaster - and all the cutlery, crockery, baking and cookware you could possibly need for a self-catered vacation for either a short or long stay.

Curl up on the comfy sofa with a good book; relax with one of the DVD movies or board games; or listen to your favourite music via our bluetooth speaker or radio/CD player.
Although TV reception, internet and mobile phone coverage can be patchy on Kangaroo Island, Serenity provides a large screen TV with free-to-air reception. Telstra mobile phones should receive some coverage inside although other phone carriers may not have reception.
Opposite the bedroom is a combined bathroom/shower/laundry.
A laundry tub, dryer & ironing facilities are provided.
(Note: No washing machine. Rain water only)
The toilet is at the rear of the house.

"Serenity Cottage was a lovely paradise in the heart of Kangaroo Island. The home is very well equipped with kitchenware, linen/towels/laundry materials, and even board games! The furniture and finishing touches shows how much love and effort went behind the whole set up of the place. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cottage to all visitors! Thanks for a memorable experience." ~ Michelle (Melbourne)
Staying at 'Serenity Cottage' was lovely. It was set out with gorgeous décor and all the amenities we required. Only minutes from the beach and beautifully tucked away in the tree tops, so that it was easy to enjoy the abundant birdlife in Vivonne Bay. In a nice, quiet spot and whilst there were neighbours, it was like being away from the rest of the world. Thank you for sharing part of your world." ~ Michael (UK)

"A delightful, private cottage in a beautiful, quiet area and a perfect base for exploring the beautiful south coast. It was lovely to be able to hear the birds calling in the morning and to sit out on the deck and watch them in the trees. Although this was only a short visit, we would love to stay again for longer. Great property in excellent position
Comfortable, clean, cosy cottage - well equipped in a fantastic position on the Island. Owner provided excellent information prior to visit
Glad you enjoyed your stay, Dianne. We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such a positive review. Thank you so much!
We enjoyed our second honeymoon in this amazing little place recently. As first timers to KI, we were central to all the highlights on the Island. We kayak, so it was important that we stay near a river. The Harriett River lived up to expectations and was an absolute pleasure to paddle down in our double kayak, hired locally. The beach at Vivonne Bay was a joy to walk on each day and we're still raving to people about how blue the ocean was there.
As for the cottage, wow, Heather & Robert have left no stone un-turned! There is everything you could possibly need here (apart from food/booze & beach towels!) and you have absolute privacy apart from the occasional afternoon visit from a wallaby or two! We just would have liked a bit more water pressure in the shower.
Highly recommend Rustic Blue Art Gallery & Cafe just a few k's down the road towards Flinders Chase.
We are recommending Serenity Cottage to everyone & can't wait to return in the future.
What a wonderful time you've had! It means the world to us to hear such lovely feedback, Denise. You're welcome back any time! :) It's so peaceful kayaking along the nearby Harriet River or taking a stroll along the beautiful beach. Vivonne Bay is so conveniently located to all the south coast attractions from Seal Bay, Raptor Domain, Little Sahara, Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Kelly Hill Caves, to Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks in the Flinders Chase National Park. Rustic Blue Gallery & Cafe is one of our favourite local haunts. A little tip: look for the flags out on the main road as their open hours are flexible and they may be closed through the winter season. Last winter a Southern Right Whale and her calf took shelter at Vivonne Bay for about 3 weeks. Can't wait to see if they come back again this year!
Cosy, comfortable and beautifully designed
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this thoughtfully designed, artistic and very comfortable cottage. Lunch on the little patio surrounded by trees, a big screen TV or sleeping in the pretty bed - all great. The host was very helpful re some complications mainly on my side. Beautiful walks on this gorgeous beach and river.
Oh, Carole! Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. It was our pleasure to host you at Serenity Cottage and I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday on Kangaroo Island. :)
Perfect location to see the whole island, or just settle in and read a book.
Really appreciate your review, Aaron. We've updated our sofa and outdoor furniture on the treetop deck to provide even more cosy nooks to kick back and listen to the birdsong. Hope to see you again one of these days! :)
Looks so great, but let down by cramped design.
Wow. What a poorly designed house. It looks great - modern, stylish.... but the bedroom was such an afterthought that one person has to access their side of the bed by crawling over the other. The room is so tiny you can only squeeze up one side. And the doona is only a double so it just covers the bed with no overhang meaning cold backs and cold toes. I slept in my sleeping bag. There is also an open roof space above the hall side of the bed covered only by a curtain meaning a cool draft on your face on windy nights. The toilet is at the back of the property where a wheelie wardrobe partially blocks your access, because you'd never fit your clothes or bags in that 'bedroom'. The lounge has a tiny couch/futon that is not comfortable for lounging around on for hours reading (as some do on holidays) and is squeezed into a corner in front of a massive TV screen that is too close to the couch to watch comfortably. Despite that there are lots of supplies including tea and coffee and everything works well, it's also a nice short walk to the beach and is undoubtedly a sleepy quiet place, but it's style over substance.
Hi Adam, I am so sorry to learn that you were not completely satisfied with your stay at Serenity Cottage. We care very much about our guests experience and have put a lot of effort into making the wee cottage as comfortable as possible. We find the brand new reverse cycle air conditioner heats the place very efficiently (almost instantly) and makes the whole house feel very warm and cosy inside through the colder months. The Queen size bed has a good quality, comfortable mattress, a plump 'King size' doona and electric blankets for extra warmth. We appreciate your feedback about the draft from the small attic space which houses our hot water system. This is certainly something we can address to make the experience more comfortable for our guests. The footprint of the bedroom is small and intimate although the high cathedral ceilings create a sense of space whilst lying in bed. We have recently removed and replaced the wardrobe (with wall-mounted hanging space) to make the room feel more spacious and allow easier access to both sides of the bed. Hence, the reason for the mobile wardrobe to allow additional hanging/storage space for our guests' clothes, if required. The two-seater futon couch is a standard size and folds out to a comfortable bed. I enjoy reading too, especially on holiday, and we have been searching for some time to find a replacement sofa bed that is both comfortable by day as a couch, as well as by night as an extra bed. To date, none have proved as comfortable as the one we already have. But we'll keep looking! We have also considered getting a smaller telly, but we find some guests enjoy the 'big screen' tv experience, and it also enables easy viewing whilst making meals in the kitchen. We are pleased to offer our guests satellite reception as some of the cottages at Vivonne Bay don't have a TV at all, and of those that do some can only be used to play DVDs - as they don't get television reception in such a remote destination. To be sure, Serenity Cottage is not a conventional house and it's layout is quirky. Some feel that's part of it's charm. I'm sorry it wasn't your 'cup of tea'. We hope that you otherwise enjoyed your holiday on Kangaroo Island.
All you need & more !
We had a great stay at Serenity Cottage - it was fresh, clean & with all mod cons we had everything we needed. Very peaceful & right next door to the best beach in Oz. Centrally located to explore the entire KI.
