Overview

About the property

Park Hill is a 700 hectare / 1700 acres, sheep and cattle farm, ideally situated 20 minutes from the City of Hamilton and one hour from the coast, Great Ocean Road, Coonawarra and the Grampians. The property is owned by Bill and Carol Bailey, who have restored, renovated and operate the farm holiday cottage which was previously the shearer's quarters.

The renovated 4 bedroom cottage has an open fire place, sleeps 7 people, large living area, overlooking the Wannon River Valley and surrounding hills. No traffic, only the tranquillity of nature and maybe the daily routine of work on a farm, including stock work at the nearby woolshed.

The 700 hectares included flat red gum tablelands, and the fertile basalt hills, often steep, forming the Wannon River Valley. Magnificent views can be seen from the plateaus of the Grampians and Mt Napier, being visible, plus looking over the Wannon River Valley and surrounding hills and having a view of the historic homestead and National Trust listed Murndal, built in 1845 by descendants of the Hentys.

Up to 5,000 Merino sheep, which produce a magnificent soft wool and 300 Angus cattle, are run on the property. Extensive pasture revegitation and tree planting programs have been instigated in the past 10 years. Large amounts of hay are reserved for the dry autumns and often wet winters, mainly fed to the cattle, with grain, wheat, barley and oats being fed to the sheep. Shearing occurs at several times of the year but manly late in the year i.e. October - December.

With the tranquillity and operation of the farm, come opportunities to visit the Coonawarra vineyards, ancient volcanic craters at Mt Napier, Mt Eccles, Tower Hill, the Grampians and many tourist attractions in Hamilton and the beaches of Portland, Port Fairy and Warrnambool.

Undoubtedly what strikes most visitors is the almost eerie, peace and serenity of the property compared to the urban mayhem many of us face.

Poor

  • 1 of 5

The two hosts are lovely people but they need to be honest in what they are advertising. The toilet and shower is out side in a separate building, the bedroom is separate to the main house and is accessed by a veranda , the walk way and access to the bedroom has no handrails and is dangers accessing the outside toilet during the night.

You cannot unload your car at the front door without standing in large amounts of sheep poo. The place it self is not clean, spider webs and dust on windows and top of small pantry cupboard. The pump is turned off over night so you cannot flush the toilet until the morning when the pump is turned back on.

It was great place to go for peace mind

  • 5 of 5

They gave us warm welcoming. House was cozy and 2 dogs are so adorable. Early morning, they show how to shave sheep hair ( it was impressive but if you are soft mind then you'd better not watch this one) and get on truck and drove off road and gave food to over 4000 sheep. It was amazing experience. I loved beautiful life here. Thanks all to Carol and Bailey.

Best Holiday Ever!!!

  • 5 of 5

Bill and Carol were the best hosts you can ask for!! Bill had lit up the fire for us on our arrival and when were late to return from trips. The house was fully lit up and warm. Equipped with everything we needed. Enjoyed Carol's home made jams , chutney and the jellies. Not forgetting the fresh herbs and eggs. It was a home away from home.

Loved the trip around the farm in the back of the Ute and Bill's farm stories. Our kids loved riding the bikes everywhere. The rolling hill and the scenery are breath taking. The pet dogs were very friendly and played with our kids and our dog.

Central to all the attractions.

Looking forward to come again !!

Thank you Carol and Bill for an unforgettable holiday. We all had a fantastic time.!!!

Perfect farm stay perfect hosts

  • 5 of 5

Well, we stumbled across an absolute gold mine in finding this place and to top it off Bill and Carol were the best hosts you could ever ask for. Bill your stories of the farm and the amazing history the place has was fantastic, believe me we all found it hard to leave. 4 adults and 6 dogs was heaven for all of us. Driving down the road to discover your property at the end of the road surrounded by rolling hills made it hard to leave every day for the Kelpie Muster. Your little cottage was absolutely perfect and it felt like home and so cosy given the cold weather. It was the perfect 4 day-er and we will be back for sure!

Owner's Response: Thank you Sandra for your kind words, we love having guests and pets come to stay in our little cottage on our beautiful property. It was truly a pleasure to have you as guests and please come again, maybe try the Spring or Autumn, the surrounds may not be as green as they are at present but very quiet and relaxing - a wine on the back deck reading magazines perhaps !!!! Cheers Carol and Bill Bailey

Amazing Stay

  • 5 of 5

Wow, wow, wow..... Carol and Bill are the most amazing hosts and the property is absolutely fantastic at the end of the road. You are surrounded with rolling hills and cattle pastures with the cutest little cottage to stay in. We had 4 adults and 6 dogs and we ALL had the best time. So much history goes along with this property so be sure to ask Bill all about it. I can't recommend this place highly enough, we felt like we landed in heaven. We will be back I'm sure again and again. Thanks for a wonderful 4 days!
