Located in the heart of the beautiful Tamar Valley in Tasmania Australia, the Blue House is a traditional fisherman's cottage just 60 metres from the river bank. The house was completely renovated in December 2013 to provide comfortable stylish accommodation with eco credentials.
The Blue House can accommodate up to 6 in 3 bedrooms comprising two with double beds and one with 2 single beds. The main loft bedroom is upstairs and has lovely river and parkland views. The toilet is separate from the bathroom which has a bath and shower.
The house is kept cosy in winter with a reverse cycle air conditioning unit (heat pump) in the lounge, supplemented with wall mounted electric panel heaters in the kitchen/dining area and loft bedroom. There are also electric blankets on all beds.
Just 30 minutes from Tasmania's second city of Launceston, Swan Point is located midway up the Tamar river estuary and is an ideal base for exploring the numerous boutique vineyards of the valley (including Janz & Ninth Island). Farm gate fruit and berries are also available in season.
There are beautiful riverside walks along the river bank to the remains of a historic water mill. Wildlife and birds abound. Watch the Sea Eagles soar and greet the wallabies on your morning walk. The popular sandy shore of Paper Beach provides a safe swimming for children and opportunity to wet a line is at your doorstep.
Local artisans provide opportunity to acquire high quality Tassie products. Iconic attractions such as Cradle Mountain, Coles Bay, Bay of Fires and Hobart are all within 3 hours drive.
Your hosts Steve and Amanda live close by and are delighted to share their Tassie secrets with you to ensure your stay is a delight.
Please note the loft bedroom is accessed via a steep stairway and may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility.
The house is 40 minutes from the Launceston airport and 60 minutes from the Devonport ferry terminal.
Free on site undercover parking is provided.
For larger vehicles, there is also plenty of free on street parking available.

Beautiful Blue House
We had a wonderful time at the Blue House! We really appreciated the child friendly touches - toys, toddler gate and portacot.
We also loved our daily walks along the beach.
We had a fantastic stay here. We had everything supplied we could ever want. The house was clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable. Really top place to stay at.
Cute cottage on the Tamar
Loved the Blue house and Paper beach. Well equipped and comfortable.
We really loved the peaceful location and homely feeling of this house. Amanda was wonderful, welcomed us on arrival and advised us on some great places to visit. The house was stocked with some essentials and delicious local cheese. It was great to get up and walk along the river.
The Blue house provided our group with comfortable accomodation to a similar standard to our bookabach in NZ. An enjoyable stay and the comforts of home. Would reccomend this accomodation too others, great value for money for our group of six.
So quiet and relaxing
We loved our stay at The Blue House. Hint is to pick up groceries before getting to the house. There were some breakfast items but depending on day of the week you might have to come back into Launceston for dinner as everything vaguely near by is closed. It was a great base for exploring the Tamar Valley and Lauceston. Super quiet, you can hear the river nearby. We loved just hanging out here.
