I am American who married a wonderful Icelandic girl and raised our children in Iceland. We kept these apartments to have a home in Iceland when we return for visits.
We waited for the right property to come up for sale, having already decided we wanted to be on Skólavörðustígur. It was always our favorite street in Reykjavik.
The feeling that we are part of a great city when we are home!
We loved this apartment right in the middle of the town center where all the shops, and restaurants are located. We stayed several nights and were able to walk out the door and right down the street filled with lovely stores and eating places.
We did not rent a car and it was not needed at all. The house is right across from the Villa Guesthouse where all buses and tours will pick you up. We did not use the kitchen much so can't speak to that. Owner was very helpful with information about location and getting around. Would definitely stay here again. Loved the location and loved Reykjavik!
The Red House Flat was very conveniently located for walking about the city center. It was a clean property with a well equipped kitchen. We took advantage of the offered spices and herbs and cooked a beef stew to warm us up. It was a comfortable homey environment. We found parking on the street right outside the house.
The owner, Mark, provided great customer service in helping us prepare for the trip with consistently helpful suggestions. We definitely would recommend this rental for those who wish to stay in the city center.
We were lucky enough to hear an organist rehearse in the amazing church up the street. We enjoyed walking to the local restaurants and shops. We had a very nice day trip driving outside the city to see the horses and waterfalls. This was our second visit to Iceland and we hope to return again.
We had a great (but too short) stay at the Red House Lower Flat. The flat itself is quite spacious and very well appointed for a rental. The kitchen was an especially pleasant surprise, exceeding almost any kitchen in a rental we have seen. The flat has those three other important things: location, location, location. Even though right on the street it was fairly quiet overnight. All of the communication prior to arriving was straight forward and accurate. Damage deposit return was quick. All in all, highly recommended.
A late review, but loved my stay in March, 2016. The place was perfect, clean, & in a great location! I found a movie rental place super close by for our down time! I totally felt comfortable with walking the streets alone and the parking was not a problem at all! Plenty of room for the 7 of us and would definitely stay here again if I ever get the pleasure of visiting Iceland again!
Four of stayed in the Red House lower flat in June 2016. The apartment was clean, spacious, and accommodating. The location is really great - seemed central, close to a few main attractions and an easy walk (or stumble!) home from a night out. The owner was also very nice and extremely responsive. After an unfortunate flight that delayed our arrival 10+ hours, we were still able to reach them and they helped us get into the house.
We felt this property was a tremendous value for its location, size, and comfort. The only thing I would say is that, since the house is near Hallgrimskirkja, there is a fair amount of foot traffic during the day. If you are a light and late sleeper, I would suggest using the room with the queen size bed, as the one with the twin beds faces the main street. Luckily the bars/clubs are a good distance away so late-night noise is not a problem.
What a welcome we had! We arrived late at the apartment. All the lights were on and it was lovely and warm which immediately lifted our spirits after a tiring journey. This apartment was spacious, clean and had everything you could possibly need on your holiday. It was always warm as the heating took care of itself and beds were comfortable. It has a washer/ dryer which was great for when caught out in snow! It also had shower gels, shampoo, washing up liquid etc so you did not have to spend on such things and use very little and have to leave behind because you are traveling only with hand luggage! Iceland is very expensive so this was a big big plus! There was also coffee and coffee maker which we enjoyed very much every morning. Check out the kitchen cupboards before you go to the supermarket across the road. Tour pick up were easy. Directly opposite or up the road at the nearest hotel. Location was EXCELLENT ! We walked everywhere with the harbour being the furthest and only 10 mins away. Lots of shops and restaurants around.
My family of 4 adults will be staying here again next time we are in Iceland.
