Overview

Northwest Berkeley House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 8 comfortably

Located for quick access to everything in the Bay Area: near North Berkeley BART (quick ride to San Francisco, San Jose, most major Bay Area locations), near UC Berkeley, Monterey Market (best fresh produce in the bay, where the chefs shop), many gourmet restaurants, and other hot spots. Easy access to all major forms of transport but just in case you change your mind, an Enterprise car rental agency is within 2 blocks of the house.

Free wifi, phone, Wii game system, 42' TV, various supplies for your work and play. Hardwood floors throughout, tourist travel guides supplied, washer, dryer, ironing board and iron.

Home is ideal for meals. Dining room with executive size 8+ seater large table or a comfortable table for smaller groups at the end of a long day. All modern supplies needed for cooking healthy meals. A breakfast table in the kitchen allows for comfortable morning meals.

Master King bed private oasis in back, second bedroom with a Full bed (can sleep 1 or 2 comfortably), third bedroom with two bunkbeds (can sleep 4 with 2 in upper bunks and 2 on twin beds below). There are also two air mattresses available to use.

If you are considering booking for 2016, a few details:

* Usually the home is booked far in advance for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you are looking for a home during the holidays, grab this one before it gets booked like usual.

* If you haven't seen Berkeley over Halloween, come check it out! While the street this house is on is quiet (maybe one or two trick-or-treaters if you're home) about 12 blocks away is an amazing neighborhood that does over-the-top decorations. Over the years we've seen a real historical cannon that shot candy into the air, raining it down on the tirck-or-treaters, as well as several walk-through haunted houses, all just part of the friendly neighborhood fun.

* Book New Year's far in advance and see the San Francisco fireworks, a must see on many people's bucket lists.

Remember, Berkeley usually has comfortable weather during the winter, so relax and enjoy your vacation using this home as a landing spot.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

About April Brewster

Hi, I'm Cathy. My family and I have lived all over: several states on the west coast, New Zealand, several European countries and we've visited 30+ more great hot spots on the map, mostly for work. Plus, we love traveling. As of 2009, my husband and I now both work remotely. We can live anywhere but wanted to keep our CA party pad so thank goodness for HomeAway and VRBO! We love the location and have many good friends in Berkeley and throughout the Bay Area. We're fun-loving, nomadic explorers and we're grateful for all the people who have come to Berkeley to enjoy the area like we have. So much to explore!

April Brewster purchased this house in 2006

Why April Brewster chose Berkeley

My husband and I purchased this Berkeley home in 2005-2006 when we needed convenient access to *everything*. We had 4 kids going to 4 different schools and both of us commuting: me all over the Bay area (SF, San Mateo, Palo Alto in particular) and my husband with a daily commute to Emeryville. None of us like commuting. We want to get where we're going then play! There is so much to explore in the Bay Area and we loved the convenience. The houses in the Berkeley hills have pretty views, but it takes longer to get to them and convenience took a higher priority.

We wanted a place that was big enough for all of us, with space for sleepovers for the kids and a massive kitchen since homecooked food can be so healthy and good. One of this house's best features is its large kitchen and central, large dining room, great for family meals. The house was everything we needed plus more.

What makes this house unique

The large kitchen is what attracts most people to this house. Being able to cook your own food is excellent for this particular area because:

1. If your budget is tight, cooking a few meals in-house can slice significant money off your budget!

2. There are several superb, unique grocery stores nearby, including a fresh produce market, Monterey Market, that has some of the best produce in the world. Having a great kitchen helps you take full advantage of it.

Also, compared to other rentals in the area, this home is perfectly located -- it's close to the freeway, but several blocks away so it's in a family neighborhood. It's less than 10 blocks from the main freeway whereas many rental houses are 25 to 35 blocks (or more) across town. When you're vacationing, the last thing you want to do is commute. It's why we bought it -- we wanted to spend our days relaxing and playing with the kids (not driving). The public transit and easy walking around town made this home ideal.

Berkeley style

  • 4 of 5

We were 3 families and enjoyed Berkeley, Napa, San Francisco. Nice morning run in sun and no fog. Kids loved playground nearby and in Berkeley marina. Muir woods, Golden Gate, Jelly Belly tour. Walking distance to Whole foods, REI, North Face outlet. Do not forget Farmers market at Gourmet Getto, Cheesboard pizza. On Bathroom - solved by we woke up different time, some of us started with prepearing breakfast, some went out for morning run and some got up just in time for breakfast.

Nice an clean, April was helpful and we recomend this place if you choose to stay in Berkeley.

Nice place great location

  • 4 of 5

The house was very clean and April was quite helpful and accommodating with our arrival. The parking space is a real bonus in such a tight town as San Francisco and Berkeley. It does have a lovely kitchen but we did not spend much time at the house because we were maximizing our time touring the area. The house is a great location for touring San Francisco, Muir Woods and and the Napa Valley area (all relatively short drives). There were 7 of us but we did manage with just one bathroom (required cooperation of all!). I would mention that the double bed could use some attention (maybe a new mattress) by otherwise we enjoyed the stay. thank you.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

The home suited us well, with plenty of space for a family to be together or spread out. The kitchen was well-supplied and enjoyable to spend time in and the apartment was filled with light. We were pleasantly surprised by the neighborhood--low-key, relaxing and within walking distance of the BART and nice food shops. Make sure to check out Acme Bakery, Monterey Market and the Tokyo Fish Market!

Great!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was wonderful. Loved the house and San Fran so much we added another night to our stay! Kitchen was perfectly stocked and great size and the bathroom was easy to share with five adults and four kids. Was also wonderful to have dinners delivered to the house. The second bedroom's bed was quite hard and not super great to sleep on though. And the house was a bit hot without air conditioning but once the windows were opened the air cooled the house nicely. We had an amazing stay and would DEFINATLEY stay there again!! April was so nice to work with and quite responsive.

Family vacation we'll remember for a lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

A quiet, safe place to stay while visiting the bay area that was way more comfortable than hotel rooms in the city! It was clean, room to spread out for our big family and so nice to have a washer and dryer and kitchen to make it feel like home. The hostess was on time, reliable and very communicative. The property was as described and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

We know it's tough for large parties to get by on one bathroom. We lived with six people and one bathroom for many years and never had an issue, but know that it is just a single bathroom. Full tub / shower and plenty of storage.
Bedrooms:
  • 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 10

Bedroom 3 - 1 double , Full sized bed with side table.
Bedroom 2 - 4 twin/ single , Two twin bunkbeds (4 twin beds total), two desks also
  • Three bedrooms including: a full Master, a room with four twin beds (bunkbeds), and a third bedroom with a full size (double) bed, all with regular closets. Notes for large parties: If you need to you can use the two sofas in the living room. The long sofa can be a sleeping spot for an adult. The 2 seater sofa is of course shorter and more appropriate for a child. There are also blow up mattresses you can put in various locations depending on what you need. The most we have ever had in the home was 18 people plus a few small children, but that was surely too many! Thankfully there were all sweet, fun, and had a great time. When we lived in the home, our four children (six people total) lived comfortably with occasional sleepovers with friends.
