This property was located just adjacent to our main property and we wanted to expand our rentals to accommodate larger groups that wanted to rent both houses or smaller rentals for couples and small families.
We were interested in finding property in an elevation that would yield cool temperatures in the summer. This property is located 3,600'. It's perfect, not too high in case there is snow in the winter and high enough to remain cool in the summer. We especially enjoy our bird feeders on the balcony and the mountain views of the Black Mountains from the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms.

From the moment we saw this Wonderful mountain home, we knew it was going to be a Great week. The pictures of the view from the balcony on the upper level, do not do it justice. It is far more breath taking. This home, had to be the best maintained and most comfortable of any we have stayed at. My only complaint was, the weather was a little too chilly, to sit out at night and stare at the multitude of stars above. We will return one Summer for that.
It was great to have a well stocked grocery store close by and many good restaurants. Burnsville, is a really neat town and very friendly. We also traveled to Spruce Mountain, Mt. Mitchell, Linville falls, the Biltmore, and many other places along the Blue Ridge highway. We never grew tired of the Awesome beauty of the mountains.
Gail Kroon, was a pleasure to do business with. From the ease of the transaction , to the wonderful information package, she provided. It was a delight. We are really looking forward to returning one day!!
Our personal suggestions, when arriving to the home for the first time, there really should be some daylight left. We made sure to do so. After, that first time, we had no problem, even at night. Ingles grocery store is as good as it gets. Get to the Biltmore, early. There is a lot to see. And, the main thing, don't rely too much on your GPS. It's not very accurate in the mountains.
We really hope, everyone who goes to the Kroon's Mountain home, has as much fun as we had. Thank you , Gail, for renting this place to us!!! Mike and Peggy
We were looking for a place to 'get away from it all' and this was the perfect choice. It was everything we look for in a vacation rental...beautiful views, quiet, clean, comfortable, with easy to work with owners.
The owner was in contact prior to our arrival to offer us the 2 BR unit as the previous guests in the 1 BR was staying an extra night. When we arrived, the caretakers were there. They were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed to begin our holiday. (Thanks for the recommendation about the Tuesday BBQ wagon!)
The views from both units were amazing. In the winter, they constantly change and are entertainment in themselves. While there are other homes on the mountainside, it is very quiet and private.
The apartments were well furnished with everything we needed, down to an abundant supply of firewood and extra birdseed for the feeder.
We stayed for 2 weeks and would have been perfectly happy to stay longer.
We would highly recommend this property.
My family and I spent our Christmas holidays here and had the BEST time. We visited Biltmore and Grandfather Mountain, hiked the area around the rental, visited downtown Burnsville, and traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway. The drives to Asheville and Grandfather Mountain didn't seem to take much time at all. The rental itself was cozy and inviting. The panoramic views out the windows and on the porch were amazing, perfect for watching sunrises. We all thoroughly enjoyed our experience staying here and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation with many opportunities to engage in exciting activities.
My husband and I had a lovely week renting the upper floor of this unit. The pictures in the listing are very accurate for this unit. What they do not show, however, is the wonderful view from the balcony and from the picture windows in the living room! We thoroughly enjoyed the mountain views from this unit; they are superb and restful---not another cabin in sight from the balcony! I could hardly restrain myself from taking picture after picture from the balcony, trying to catch the different moods of the clouds and the time of day. We were even graced with an exquisite rainbow one evening!
We also enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder on the porch (plus the occasional squirrel who managed to find a way to steal birdseed) and the hummingbirds at the hummingbird feeder.
This unit was very clean and comfortable, and Gail was extremely responsive and attentive.
Even thought the weather was rainy on some of our days, we were able to enjoy trips to Mount Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi), Beech Mountain (highest town east of the Rocky Mountains, with a fun store, Fred's Mercantile, which stocks a little bit of everything!), Little Switzerland (delicious lunch at the Little Switzerland cafe, and fun browsing at the Books and Beans 3-story bookstore), and several craft studios/galleries. We also enjoyed drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway and drives around Burnsville and surrounding areas looking for quilt blocks on some of the nine "quilt trails" in the area (see http://www.quilttrailswnc.org/ for information).
We look forward to renting this unit again sometime and/or renting the larger 4 bedroom unit for a family reunion.
Please do be aware that these units are up a winding, gravel mountain road. If your car sits lower to the ground than the average car you may have a bit of trouble. but our "ordinary" car did just fine with careful driving.
