Set amongst the tall green Scots pine trees and overlooking the picturesque village of Gavalahori this large 4 bedroom villa (200m sq) sits this.light and airy mediterannean villa. The villa has large living areas both inside and outside with a picture terrace where you can sit in the evening and startgaze and also a huge covered ground floor terrace accessible from each bedroom. There is a laundry and cleaning service twice per week and a welcome pack is also provided. There is a Villa book in which you can find details of how the villa runs, about local tavernas and places to visit. The pool area has stunning views overlooking Souda Bay, Gavalochori village, the mountains and is the ideal place to watch the breathtaking sunsets of Crete. The villa is only 35 minutes drive from the airport and is situated close to the family beaches of Almerida and Kalives (10 min. drive) with their water sports and fantastic selection of tavernas. The villa is deal for a large family or two families sharing or a romantic get away for two.It is in a great location for summer or out of season. The house has central heating and a log burning fire for you to sit by in winter and discover why they are called the White Mountains!
The villa overlooks the village of Gavalahori which is just over 1km away. A lovely walk downhill, for a refreshing glass of something cool at the village Taverna, but a bit of a hike back up and only for those who are fit. The village has a baker, a couple of kafeneons, three tavernas, a supermarket and a Lace cooperative shop. The village of Vamos is 1km behind the villa and has a number of tavernas, a bank, a bar, gyro (the best!) chemist ,petrol stations and a range of other shops. The nearest beach is Almerida which is 7km (10 min drive) away. Good for kids, sandy, many tavernas and a few bars. Nearest town is Chania , 35 mins drive and worth a visit alone for sitting at the harbourside bars/tavernas in the evening and watching the world go by. For those interested in history, Aptera is 20 mins away, an abandoned town with Greek/Roman/Byzantine ruins.
The villa has a panoramic view, sea to the north, white mountains to the south, sunsets and sunrises that are breathtaking
I Currently live in Dubai so like to escape the heat of the gulf and relax with a good book whilst taking in the beautiful scenery, great traditional food and warm friendly people.
Fiona purchased this villa in 2005
Peaceful setting, stunning views of mountains and sea, yet close to the villages, beaches and larger towns of Chania and Rethymnon
We have just returned from a lovely 2 week holiday, this property is wonderful, perfectl location for a totally restful holiday. This property has everything you need for a great holiday for all ages. We will be back some time soon.
Fantastic - we all absolutely loved this wonderful villa. Our family and friends were all excited to be visiting Crete and weren't dissapointed when the sun rose on our first morning in Villa Agavanos. The view over Suda bay and the mountains behind were amazing and unless we were out at local taverna, we spent all our time enjoying the villas facilities and watching shooting stars in the evening on the 'upper deck'. Sunsets were spectacular, but to be honest we would love to visit any time of the year to enjoy the views and tranquility that Villa Agavanos has to offer - thanks again to you both for a wonderful holiday
We stayed here for a week from the 2nd August 2011 , 6 adults and 4 children and had a really lovely, relaxing holiday. The villa is incredibly well furnished and equipped, the pool is lovely and the dining terrace is perfect, with great views to the sea. There is a refreshing cool breeze that blows around the villa keeeping you nice and cool is the summer heat which means that it doesnt matter that there is no air con. We travelled out to Knossos for a day, about a 2 hour drive and ate in Georgiopoulis ( 30 min drive) and also in Chania ( 45 mins) but other than that we stocked up at the Carrefour in Chania and catered for ourselves enjoying lovely long evenings on the terrace. The drive up to the villa was a slight challenge to the rental cars but then again so are many of the roads in Crete so this wasnt a problem specific to the villa. I cant recommmend this villa enough and we would definitely consider a return at some stage to explore the area further as we didnt really spend any time in the immediate locality which we would have done if we had spent longer there. On arrival we were made very welcome by Angela and Dennis even though we arrived very late at night and nothing was too much trouble. The villa represents fantastic value for money and we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
We've just returned from Crete after having a wonderful holiday at Villa Agavanos. This holiday was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for two families from different sides of the globe: UK and NZ, to get together for a break before the kids grow up and fly the nest. The villa was perfect for two families: plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms - ideal for teenage kids who want to have their own space! The views over Souda Bay are amazing, and we absolutely loved the tranquility. Waking up to the silence of the mountain was fantastic, with the odd tinkle from the goats' bells. The villa is a real home-from-home with everything you could possibly need, including a Weber BBQ which we made the most of. The villa is very clean and well maintained, and looked after by a lovely English couple. Its two fantastic balconies provide plenty of outside space for relaxation, group meals, and star gazing. We made the most of the pool, which provided our teenage 'national level' swimmers with plenty of water to splash around in. We all felt the villa gave us the best of both worlds being only a 10 minute drive from the beach and nearest resorts of Kalives, Almirida and Georgiopoli where there are plenty of shops/tavernas. Unfortunately it was a wee bit too far to walk into the nearest village in the heat, so we drove instead. The villa's location is excellent as its quick to get to the national highway which runs all the way along the island so its easy to go sightseeing and explore the White Mountains. Chania is a 30 minute drive away, and is well worth a visit, as is Rethymon. We would strongly recommend the villa to anyone who wants to see the real Crete, but with easy access to the more touristy areas. We certainly have lots of wonderful memories to treasure, and completely fell in love with Crete and the villa. So we look forward to being able to return to Villa Agavanos before too long.
Just returned from 2 weeks at villa agavanos had a fantastic time, the villa is huge and plenty of space for our family of 6.The village of vamos is not to far away and the locals really friendly, the pool was a good size and very clean. We loved the views and there was always something new to look at.Our neighbours were the goats and sheep. The bakery in Vamos sells wonderful bread for breakfast and the fish monger great produce. The accomadation was great and had everything to make our stay relaxing and stressfree which is my idea of a holiday.
We were wonderfully impressed with this well planned and designed villa. There was everything we needed with an unexpectedly impressive library of books and DVDs. It was tempting not to explore the Island as staying in the villa was so comfortable and serene.
Without hesitation I would recommend this villa to friends. It is generously sized and immaculately maintained with stunning views, and without doubt one of the best villas we have ever stayed in.
Close to the sandy beaches of Amerida and Kalives with their watersports. Situated in the Apokoronas region with its many historical attractions, including the roman ruins at Aptera. 35 minutes drive from the main town of Chania with its beautiful Venetian buildings and harbour. For those that enjoy walking, Samarian and Imbros gorges easily within reach by car. Lake Kournos, the only natural lake on the island is less than 25 minutes away with its wildlife including terrapins. The house is set on its own in the trees with buzzards and eagles frequently seen, along with the occasional hedghog that comes to drink at the pool in the evening. Great selection of tavernas locally in Gavalohori, (1.5km) Vamos (1km), Almerida (7km) and Kalives (7km). Easily reached from the main East-West highway. Great position to explore other parts of the island from including the south coast and the Minoan ruins at Knossos. Supermarkets, bank, pharmacy, baker, fishmonger, butcher & other shops in nearby.
Other Activities: go-karts, bowling
