History of the Guest House: Kirk Beatley is a fourth generation Washingtonian whose family has lived on Capitol Hill since the late 1800s, and where he continues to live today with his wife and two children. In 1905, Kirk's Great-Grandmother, Margaret, purchased this1890 Victorian home to entice her newly married daughter, Nell, to raise her own family in the neighborhood. Nell and her husband, John Luskey, raised their 12 children in this home.

In 2008 Kirk purchased the house from relatives who had owned or lived in the house since 1905, and then Kirk and his family spent over two years meticulously restoring and renovating the home, blending old-world Victorian charm and grace with new world appliances and technology.

Today, Kirk's family, a fifth generation of Washingtonians, are honored to offer you the opportunity of experiencing residential living in their newly updated family's house, in the heart of our Nation's Capitol, at the Historic Eastern Market on Capitol Hill!

Delightful unit in great location

  • 5 of 5

Clean, roomy and well appointed in a great location. Kirk’s correspondense and directions were prompt, thorough and helpful. We toured for 4 solid days and would return to Kirk’s. The only critique is the heat fan is a bit noisy, so I kept it off.

Beautifully restored historic home. Classic charm with upscale modern amenities. Feels like home

Eastern Market Suites is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Washington DC. Our upstairs suite was very spacious, beautifully done, and comfortably furnished. The kitchen has upgraded appliances and we used it every day to prepare meals.

The Metro train, DC Circulator, Metro bus, Trader Joe’s, and CVS only a short 1/2 block away. Eastern Market another block up is another place to purchase fresh meat and produce (reasonably priced) and delicious cookies at the bakery. A short stroll to 8th Street will bring you to many restaurants. We really enjoyed the adult milk shakes at Ted’s Bulletin.

Temperatures in late February, early March were lows of 35 to highs of 45. Not too bad if you have layers.

One tip for visiting the Capitol: if the line at the Capitol Visitors Center is long, enter Capitol through Library of Congress building. Head to the tour area and take the tunnel to Capitol. The tunnel is temperature controlled and there is rarely a line.

Great Location, Great Unit

  • 5 of 5

This Eastern Market HomeAway rental is a well-equipped, very pleasant space with its own outdoor balcony seating area for morning coffees, a highly responsive owner, and possessed of easy and quick access to all Capital landmarks. The home is situated in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of character, terrific architecture, easy food shopping and numerous excellent restaurants. The nearby historic Eastern Market complex is a destination in and of itself. I highly recommend this property for a pleasant, comfortable stay in a great location for all your Washington area sightseeing ambitions.
