This is a two bedroom cottage on crystal clear, sandy bottom, all sports Paradise Lake. Two separate bedrooms and a futon will accommodate six comfortably. There is a local marina and bait shop on the lake for all of your boating and fishing needs. If you wish you can bring your own boat and launch it down the street at the DNR ramp and park right outside the cottage at your private dock. The fishing is excellent year round. There is also a lakeside restaurant, grocery store, gift and antique shops. We also have a 27 foot pontoon available for rent (weekly)at our cottage.
Our cottage is centrally located at the Tip of the Mitt. Five minutes from Mackinaw City, and Mackinaw Island Ferries, museums, historical Fort Michilmacinac, lighthouses, Mill Creek. Just over the Mackinaw Bridge will take you to Taquaneman falls, picture rocks, Sault Ste. Marie, and the Sault Locks. Casinos are in Petoskey, or in St. Ignace, just over the Mackinaw Bridge.
You probably wonder why we named our cottage 'Acorn'.Before we purchased our cottage, while we were with the real estate woman, I looked into one of the bedrooms and I was looking at the bed. I noticed something under the mattress. There I found in ten neat little rows a collection of acorns. I opened the dresser drawer, and there were more acorns. The local chipmunks had quite the feast stored for the winter. After we bought the cottage I took those acorns and keep them in an air tight jar on the mantel. So we named our cottage Acorn Cottage. The chipmunks still store the acorns, but they are now outside, not inside.
Jennifer Schafer purchased this cottage in 2005
Our cottage is in a little town of Carp Lake, Mi. We have enjoyed vacationing in this area for 30 years. We find the peaceful and tranquil area of Mackinaw very rejuvinating.
The beautiful area offers great natural peace. We found Acorn Cottage as we were looking for a retirement home in Northern Michigan. The area is rich in history with so much to do. Going to the dunes is like being in Florida. Hike in the woods. Or just sit and watch Paradise Lake.
Acorn Cottage is surrounded by natural beauty.A pair of Bald Eagles make their home in the nature
preserve at Stoney Point . In the evening set on the platform on the dock and watch the sunset.
Take a boat ride in the pontoon. The fishing is great on the lake, large pike, bass, and perch. If you want to go hiking,Wilderness State Park is just a few miles away.
There are plenty of hiking trails to walk or drive along the road and see the woodland and
lakeshore beauty. The sand dunes are also just a few miles away. Go to dinner at Legg's Inn and
on your way enjoy the sand dunes and beach shoreline of the Straits of Mackinaw. You can walk
for miles on open beach. If it's shopping you enjoy, go to Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Island
and spend the day. There is plenty to do around our cottage. So go relax, and enjoy.
I stayed at Acorn Cottage with my sisters. We had a wonderful long weekend of relaxing on the dock, bonfires, and we enjoyed the area shops and food. We ate a lot of pie and loved the ambiance of the cottage. The cottage is perfectly close to Mackinaw City and all of the historic places. It was easy to go to Petoskey,Harbor Springs, and Bliss, and see all of the sand dunes that surround the area. If you closed your eyes you would think you were in Florida. Open your eyes and your back on the shores of Michigan. Beautiful turquoise water. Paradise Lake is crystal clear and the fishing was great. Take a ride on the pontoon to see all of the lake. It was the perfect time to go as the weather was warm.Nights were cool. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys nature, it is clean, quiet and has a serene setting.
We stayed at Acorn Cottage for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was so peaceful and I thought Mackinaw City would be slow due to the holiday time. The fact is that there were all kinds of holiday events going on in the little towns. Christmas Tree lighting, holiday parades. Just the quaint events that make you really enjoy the holiday spirit.
We really had a tough time to decide if we wanted to go to the festivities as we loved just staying at the cottage and snuggling up to the fireplace. We had a wonderful dinner at Audie's in Mackinaw City. The fish was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. We look forward to visiting Acorn in the spring or summer to enjoy all of the
events and natural wonders that this area has to offer. This is a great place to relax and enjoy nature!
My husband and I stayed at this adorable cottage for ten days during the peak of the fall colors. The vibrant colors in the area are breathtaking and the reflection on the water was beautiful! The weather was perfect for day trips to the upper and to the island. The description of the cottage was perfect. The beds are comfortable and you have everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The local general store was perfect for our groceries. We bought a beautiful steak and grilled it. We also brought some of their home made sausage and bacon home with us as it is also delicious. You must purchase fresh meat from this store when you stay. Fresh farm eggs too! The marina was also very helpful when we purchased gas and bait for fishing on the pontoon. What a beautiful cottage and area. We can't wait to come back next year! Thank you for sharing this wonderful cottage.
We stayed at Acorn Cottage for a week, and mainly came to fish. The water is crystal clear, the lake is beautiful and we did enjoy some good fishing.
The cottage is nicely decorated, but could use some updating. Each room had a different color and type of carpet, and there was carpet in the bathroom. The bathroom carpet definitely needs to come out as it gave off an odor of urine. The carpet in the kitchen is also not a good idea as it just didn't feel clean. The TVs are older, and WiFi would have been nice since we didn't have good cell coverage at this location.
The cottage could also use some work. For example, when we pulled both racks of the dishwasher out at the same time, it fell forward. A couple of screws would easily fix this problem. The ceiling fan made a terrible noise when we turned it on, so decided to leave it off. The cottage could also have been cleaner. We used the oven and it was quite greasy.
We rented the pontoon for the week and were surprised that it wasn't cleaned. It was covered with leaves, spider webs, and there is mold growing on the carpet. It apparent that it is not kept covered.
The ad states there is a lakeside restaurant, grocery store, gift and antique shops. I didn't see a grocery store or lakeside restaurant, and the gift and antique shop was closed. The marina is run by an older gentlemen who has the place for sale and wasn't there two of the times we stopped by.
My impression overall of this lake is that it was a really 'happening' place at one time, but not anymore as a lot of things around it are run down and out of business.
The location is really good as it is close to Mackinaw City, about a 5 mile drive. However, this area and everything around it is quite remote, so make sure that's the type of vacation you are looking for if you choose to stay on Paradise Lake.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and the fishing, but probably wouldn't return. For us there just wasn't enough to do in the area.
We could not be any more pleased with our stay. We only wish we would have stayed longer!!! The view is amazing, the water clean, the beds are comfy and the privacy is a blessing! Truly a relaxing place to unwind from the world. And the location could not be better. Just minutes from the city, and the island! And the cottage is cozy and quaint. Everything is provided, you really feel like a well taken care of guest! Do not pass this one up!
We stayed at Acorn Cottage for Mothers Day! The weather was great and we enjoyed setting on the dock and watching the sun set. The cottage is clean , comfortable beds, and the view the minute you walk in is breathtaking. Just a short ride to Mackinaw City where you can go to the island. You do not want to leave the cottage because you feel so cozy and the interior is decorated so tastefully with that woodsy feeling. Cute squirrels and acorns are part of this decor and are in every room. Can't wait to go back!
Just minutes to Ferries to Mackinaw Island and the Upper Penninsula.
