Overview

About the property

Welcome to Huon Valley House, a luxurious, custom built home on the bluff overlooking a bend of the Huon River, just 30 minutes from the Hobart CBD. A great base to explore the Huon region's wine, food, arts & crafts and wilderness adventures. Central yet private, close to Home Hill Winery, Willie Smith's Cidery and Summer Kitchen Bakery. Free Wi-Fi and a Netflix-enabled TV - just log into your Netflix account when you need a break from all the sightseeing.

- Free wi-fi

- Children are welcome - free use of port-a-cot and high chair

- Quality bathroom products and prestige linen included

This luxurious 27 square, single level home featuring floor to ceiling double glazing is set at the end of a flat acre of expansive lawns and native landscape, with expansive views of the rural surrounds, bird life and the majestic Huon River. The home’s main construction type is recycled solid bricks from early 1900’s warehouses across Melbourne.

The house has been designed by the owners Tony and Angela who have a passion for design, architecture and landscaping, and built in 2009. The home has open spaces with views all around, is light and airy and has a well-designed kitchen featuring stone bench tops, dish draw dishwasher and 900mm induction cooking.

There are no steps inside the home, and just one small step at the entrance to get into the home from the entrance. There are large ironbark decks from the lounge, master bedroom and kitchen - all with great views, including river.

The spacious master bedroom has a separate/dedicated walk in robe and has a bathroom with two separate basins plus fantastic views!

The two dining spaces cater for up to twelve dinner guests, and a kitchen courtyard offers fresh herbs and occasional veggies. There is plenty of comfortable seating to relax in the spacious living areas. Bedrooms have 100% NZ pure wool carpets and with porcelain tiles in remaining living zones. Both bathrooms feature screenless showers with large-format overhead shower heads. Warm passive solar design is backed up with heating and air conditioning.

River access at the end of the street offers fishing near the freshwater/estuarine boundary.

A perfect, luxurious, private yet centrally located property in the Huon Valley to explore the Huon and south-west region, and easy commuting distance to Hobart.

There are plenty of books, board games and DVDs, as well as free-to-air tv and a radio (check out the quirky Huon FM @ 95.3).

For your added security, this property is only managed in Australia and we never request payments be made to overseas bank accounts.

Please note we request our guests to avoid excessive noise and rowdy house parties. We have lovely neighbours with a young family next door :)

Local attractions

Close by is the renowned Summer Kitchen Bakery, selling organic wood-fired sourdough breads plus pastries and excellent coffee. Nearby Ranelagh General Store offers gourmet burgers, fries and calamari.

Home Hill Winery is also just up the road at Ranelagh, offering boutique local wines and gourmet meals. In 2015, Home Hill Wines won two major trophies at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.

You can also visit Hartzview, Elsewhere, Panorama and St Imre vineyards in the Huon Valley.

Huon Jet Boats are based at nearby Huonville.

For the family, a short walk to the Huon Valley Caravan Park and you can walk through the apple orchards, watch the pigs being fed, hand-feed the chickens, sheep and goats, watch the cows being milked and cheese making demonstrations. Across the river at Glen Huon is the Pelican Point alpaca farm, which also welcomes visitors. The Huonville outdoor heated public pool is also a hidden gem with 50 metre pool, undercover seating and plenty of lawn to relax on.

Other regional attractions include the Tahune Airwalk and nearby Eagle Hanglider flying fox. On the way to Tahune, you can stop at Geeveston for lunch and check out the Forest and Heritage Centre. Masaaki's is a must for sushi lovers.

Further south are Hastings Caves and thermal pool, and the historic Ida Bay Railway.

The Wooden Boat Centre is located in the quaint village of Franklin, along with Village Antiques. Franklin is just 10 minutes from Ranelagh and provides excellent access to the Huon River waterfront. Try Franklin Marine for fishing supplies and advice.

At picturesque Cygnet you'll find plenty of fine local food, galleries, arts and crafts, and second-hand stores. Farm gate sales are available from the nearby Nicholls Rivulet Organic Farm.

To relax, try Huon Natural Healthcare for reflexology, massage therapies and herbal medicine.

Also in the Huon is Willie Smiths Organic Apple Cider, the largest organic apple orchard in Australia. You can visit them at The Apple Shed museum, cider house and cafe on the Huon Highway. Another cider house and cafe is Frank's at Franklin, and cellar door sales are available from Pagan Cider at Cygnet.

For whisky lovers, try Tasmanian premium whiskies at the Lark Distillery on Davey St in Hobart, or the Nant Whisky Bar at Salamanca.

A quick 3 km drive from the house and you are in the Huonville township with access to supermarkets including Woolworths and IGA, petrol stations (including a 24 hour convenience store), Australia Post, banks, pharmacy, bakery, cafes, restaurants etc, as well as a local chocolatier.

Stunning, modern property with beautiful views

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful, extended family stay at Huon Valley house. When we walked through the door, it took our breath away! Huge, open plan home with large bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas and views to die for, with large glass windows to appreciate the views from pretty much every room! Beds were really comfy. Well situated for lots of activities- we had a fun filled week! Excellently stocked with games for the kids on a rainy day. Only downsides were no clothes line or dryer for clothes despite a huge laundry and no BBQ - so just missed out on the 5 stars.

Good extended family accommodation

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed at the house with our son and daughter-in-law and two small children. It is well designed for an extended family with bedrooms at both ends of the house and two bathrooms. The beds were comfortable although the lounge furniture was not - big squishy chairs and sofas don't suit older people, but they were certainly big enough to cuddly a grandchild in! The house is centrally located to all the attractions of the area And we enjoyed it.

Sanctuary for relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I thoroughly loved our stay here and felt so relaxed by the end of.

In walking distance of the amazing summer kitchen bakery which we took advantage of each morning.

The only slight downfall to the property was a lack of some kitchen "essentials", such as a few baking trays, mixing bowl etc. honestly not a huge deal, but if you're driving from within Tasmania it might be an idea to bring anything you think will be essential for your stay.

Nice, quiet place

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. It's a house with a lot of space, perfect for family holidays. The quality of the beds is very good, perfect for a good sleep! The bathrooms are spaceous. The showers in the middle of the room without any curtain or glass wall are very modern, but they are not very handy: after every shower the bathroom was wet all over. You need shoes to come to the toilet with dry feet... What I missed, was a seperate toilet. One bedroom has its ensuite bathroom. But all the other guests (we were 4, but 6 is possible), have only one bathroom, which was often wet because of the shower. The kitchen is big and nice. But there was not enough cutlery - especially the teaspoons (only 4).

The handover of the key was easy and uncomplicated. And so are Angela and Tony: helpful and uncomplicated.
