Close by is the renowned Summer Kitchen Bakery, selling organic wood-fired sourdough breads plus pastries and excellent coffee. Nearby Ranelagh General Store offers gourmet burgers, fries and calamari.
Home Hill Winery is also just up the road at Ranelagh, offering boutique local wines and gourmet meals. In 2015, Home Hill Wines won two major trophies at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.

Huon Jet Boats are based at nearby Huonville.
For the family, a short walk to the Huon Valley Caravan Park and you can walk through the apple orchards, watch the pigs being fed, hand-feed the chickens, sheep and goats, watch the cows being milked and cheese making demonstrations. Across the river at Glen Huon is the Pelican Point alpaca farm, which also welcomes visitors. The Huonville outdoor heated public pool is also a hidden gem with 50 metre pool, undercover seating and plenty of lawn to relax on.
Other regional attractions include the Tahune Airwalk and nearby Eagle Hanglider flying fox. On the way to Tahune, you can stop at Geeveston for lunch and check out the Forest and Heritage Centre. Masaaki's is a must for sushi lovers.
Further south are Hastings Caves and thermal pool, and the historic Ida Bay Railway.
The Wooden Boat Centre is located in the quaint village of Franklin, along with Village Antiques. Franklin is just 10 minutes from Ranelagh and provides excellent access to the Huon River waterfront. Try Franklin Marine for fishing supplies and advice.
At picturesque Cygnet you'll find plenty of fine local food, galleries, arts and crafts, and second-hand stores. Farm gate sales are available from the nearby Nicholls Rivulet Organic Farm.
To relax, try Huon Natural Healthcare for reflexology, massage therapies and herbal medicine.
Also in the Huon is Willie Smiths Organic Apple Cider, the largest organic apple orchard in Australia. You can visit them at The Apple Shed museum, cider house and cafe on the Huon Highway. Another cider house and cafe is Frank's at Franklin, and cellar door sales are available from Pagan Cider at Cygnet.
For whisky lovers, try Tasmanian premium whiskies at the Lark Distillery on Davey St in Hobart, or the Nant Whisky Bar at Salamanca.
A quick 3 km drive from the house and you are in the Huonville township with access to supermarkets including Woolworths and IGA, petrol stations (including a 24 hour convenience store), Australia Post, banks, pharmacy, bakery, cafes, restaurants etc, as well as a local chocolatier.

Absolutely loved our stay!! Perfect!
We felt so at home and welcomed as soon as we walked through the door. The house was warm with plenty of extra blankets and comfy beds. The surroundings are breath taking and the house is perfectly situated with an easy commute to shops, Hobart and plenty of attractions. I would definitely recommend the house to anyone who is looking to stay in this beautiful area! We will be back again.
A lovely house !!!!!
We had a wonderful time here. The house was central to all the places we came to see -ie Port Arthur, Bruny Island, Hobart, Richmond (twice) and many more places. The house is ideal for a large family, beautiful views and the people are so friendly.
Stunning, modern property with beautiful views
Had a wonderful, extended family stay at Huon Valley house. When we walked through the door, it took our breath away! Huge, open plan home with large bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas and views to die for, with large glass windows to appreciate the views from pretty much every room! Beds were really comfy. Well situated for lots of activities- we had a fun filled week! Excellently stocked with games for the kids on a rainy day. Only downsides were no clothes line or dryer for clothes despite a huge laundry and no BBQ - so just missed out on the 5 stars.
Good extended family accommodation
We recently stayed at the house with our son and daughter-in-law and two small children. It is well designed for an extended family with bedrooms at both ends of the house and two bathrooms. The beds were comfortable although the lounge furniture was not - big squishy chairs and sofas don't suit older people, but they were certainly big enough to cuddly a grandchild in! The house is centrally located to all the attractions of the area And we enjoyed it.
We had a great stay at Huon Valley House, it was very comfortable and felt tranquil.. Theres also plenty to do in the area..
I will definatly be recommending this accomodation to my friends...
Sanctuary for relaxation
My partner and I thoroughly loved our stay here and felt so relaxed by the end of.
In walking distance of the amazing summer kitchen bakery which we took advantage of each morning.
The only slight downfall to the property was a lack of some kitchen "essentials", such as a few baking trays, mixing bowl etc. honestly not a huge deal, but if you're driving from within Tasmania it might be an idea to bring anything you think will be essential for your stay.
There are numerous wineries including Home Hill at Ranelagh and Kate Hill Wines at Huonville. Willie Smith's, Frank's and Pagan Cider houses are located in the area. For sightseeing we recommend Huon Jet Boats and Paddle Boats; Tahune Airwalk and Eagle Glide flying fox; gemstone fossicking and an historic rail tour at Lune River; Hastings Caves and thermal pool; and a steep but rewarding hike through rainforest at nearby Huon Bush Retreats. You can also hire a restored modern or vintage bicycle from Huon Bikes. Cygnet has some great boutique and craft shops, art galleries (including Huon Art) and cafes. Check out the historic Wooden Boat Centre at Franklin, and the Geeveston Visitor's Centre and short walk to Arve Falls at Geeveston. Our favourite places to eat are Ranelagh General Store for incredible burgers, Summer Kitchen Bakery for organic pies and pastries, and Lotus Eaters Cafe for the freshest of fresh salads.
