WELCOME TO ELLIS HOUSE
For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamt of creating the perfect country escape, an ideal combination of rustic comfort and modern luxury. Ellis House is the culmination of a lifetime’s quest. It started with the beautiful bare bones of a classic 1860’s building, a key part of Kyneton’s rich architectural history. We lovingly renewed the house carefully balancing respect for the building’s original features with contemporary needs.
Inspired by Belgium modern interiors and the desire for luxurious simplicity, we’ve harmonised the old and the new through light and colour. Indoor and outdoor spaces flow into each other, bathed in the serene light of another time. It’s a step into the past that sacrifices nothing of the present.
Now the perfect country retreat for a discerning traveller, Ellis House offers three-quarters of an acre of beguiling gardens, space to comfortably sleep eight adults, relaxed linens, elegant lighting and a modern, relaxed aesthetic.
I’m so happy to share my dream with you. I hope our home will inspire you to embrace nature, allow the country air to restore your soul, and leave indelible memories of comfort and tranquility.
At Ellis House we have created a luxurious & stylish environment as an escape to the country inspired by our own quest for comfort & harmony in modern country style.
Tracie & David Ellis
Staying at Ellis House is like time-travelling in the very best way, and is an all-embracing country experience from the old to the new. 'New' includes the luxuriant but not ostentatiously styled linen from the owners' successful homewares range - doonas and bedding so soft and comfortable upon high beds. 'New', too, are the perfect bathrooms, including a restored tub and beautiful towels, and Aesop products provided for soaking. A well-thought-out pantry and efficient little kitchen with an interesting range of vintage and contemporary equipment might tempt you to cook from the excellent range of cookbooks provided. Or you might prefer to curl up in a chair with a vintage throw and leaf through some beautiful books on architecture. Wherever you are in Ellis House, with its subdued and rich decor tones, the ambience is layered and thoughtful, and welcoming, as if you've somehow found yourself in Aunt Grace's old house for the weekend left just for you. The sitting room with its quirky allusions to English country life features some of the extraordinary lighting and objets sourced from around the world. Looking out on the gardens provides so many different beautiful vistas, with a vegetable garden and interesting old plantings ... and a circular drive with crunchy gravel does add a touch of posh! But above all, Ellis House is not a bit starchy: it feels like home, and the only tricky question is whether you want to wander down to Mollison St for supplies, or stay there forever. Not a bit starchy- Feels like home
Ellis House is a wonderful place to stay - you feel at home the minute you walk in the door. The Testimonials are 100 % correct and even though it has exquisite furnishings you feel at ease and comfortable in your surroundings and not at all scared to sit or touch anything. We had seven stay in the house and we did not feel on top of each other, their are plenty of quirky little corners inside & out to have time on your own. Tracie is a wonderful host and nothing is too much trouble. I would recommend Ellis House to all & hope one day to stay again.
Going to return!
We had a fantastic stay in Kyneton for a weekend as a result of a close friends wedding. The house was so beautiful we did not want to leave. Every detail has been well thought out, from the hand soap to the list of recommended cafes and restaurants. The beds were extremely comfortable and luxurious and the garden was fun to explore. We are hoping to return and stay again in the new year!

Thank you so much for letting us share your beautiful home.We loved every minute of our time in Kyneton.Such a gorgeous house with a lovely welcoming feel meant we stayed indoors more than we expected. The house was just perfect for the ladies. We spent hours chatting, laughing, reading, eating and relaxing by the fire.Plenty of wine and bubbles were drunk and a silly amount of yummy food was consumed. The kitchen table, set in its cozy nook, was so inviting for our long breakfasts and dinners. Our Chacuterie course at Piper St was more than we had hoped, it all just worked, and was thoroughly rejuvenating.Thank you Connie
