3 Bedroom 2+ Bathroom two story villa on a tropical beach
Location and Surrounds
Solana on Four Mile Beach is a townhouse located in a very quiet cul-de-sac only 120 metres from the renown and picturesque Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas. Less than a two minute walk or a 30 second run for the kids. The permanent right of way access path to the beach crosses a delightful, tropical public park with BBQs and a well equipped children's playground.
This modern two story townhouse of cyclone rated, brick construction offers a private, gated plunge pool with outdoor shower, set in a neat tropical garden.
Shared with only five other units, Solana townhouse is away from major resorts. The Four Mile Shops, including a delicatessen/cafe, bottle shop, video store and take-away are about 500m away and the IGA supermarket and Tropical Habitat less than 1 km. Several great restaurants are within easy bike or walking distance. Port Douglas's shopping, restaurant and entertainment street, Macrossan Street, is less than five minutes by car or an easy 15-20 minute ride on the dedicated, safe bike path. Local mini-bus services also operate routine schedule to and from town. Considering regional attractions, guests may however find the convenience of a hire car for the duration of their stay to be useful.
Furniture and Fittings
The townhouse is exceptionally well appointed, being a private residence rented to guests only because the owner currently travels much overseas. Furniture, linen, electrical appliances and kitchenware in the townhouse are of the highest quality and functionality and mostly less than two years old. Throughout, rooms are fully air-conditioned, as well as having efficient ceiling fans (including patio and balconies outdoors). Upstairs balconies are screened, to allow sleeping guests to enjoy the balmy tropical night air during the dry season.
FREE WIFI INTERNET AND WIFI-ENABLED TV IS PROVIDED. It is a powerful modem, with advanced 5G capacity and well covers the entire apartment, under password protection. Includes 'Telstra TV'. A very generous Gb limit is maintained, suitable for all reasonable usage, but slows if high volume downloads are made. Mobile phone reception is functional but Port Douglas, being 'rural', does not enjoy perfect blanket coverage as in a major city. At times, reception drops if the operator is moving around inside the apartment. Stationary conversation on the patio/balconies is best.

Beach items, including chairs, umbrella, towels, portable fridge, drink cooler, racquets and children's beach toys are provided. If taken to the beach or park, please treat as your own. Ensure they are brought back to the unit and washed/cleaned of sand and salt.
Two ADULT bicycles (one male, one female) with helmets and carry baskets, are at the unit for guest use. They are stored in the garage, accessible through its side door opposite the back gate. PLEASE keep tyres inflated; moving parts oiled (provided); wash off after use, especially when ridden along the beach; and report if maintenance is required. USE IS STRICTLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. If more bikes are needed (or say for children), several bike hire outlets operate in Port Douglas.
Children and Disabled
Children, appropriately supervised, are welcome at 5 Solana by the Beach. A baby cot, high chair (a 'booster' type seat that fastens securely to one of the solid bench chairs) and stair guard are in the unit. The kitchen is equipped with children's cutlery and crockery.
Being a two-story townhouse, the unit has limitations for guests that may be wheel-chair confined. If desired, a fold away bed can be arranged with ablutions possible in the laundry.
Regrettably carport parking is not usually available and when it is, tricky to access. Parking is therefore easiest kerbside, immediately in front of the townhouse. The street is a very quiet cul-de-sac, so a convenient and safe space is normally available. Port Douglas can be considered a low crime area, but keep your vehicle locked and any valuables out of sight.
To protect furniture and fittings, and in the interest of future guests who may have allergies, NO PETS PLEASE.
In the interests of future guests and in keeping with now common practice in Australian homes, PLEASE NO SMOKING INSIDE the townhouse. If you need to smoke, use the patio, garden or upstairs balconies and dispose your butts in the rubbish.
Solana offers a relaxing and comfortable holiday base, perfectly located to discover Port Douglas and attractions beyond. Port Douglas is one of Australia's prettiest and iconic tourist destinations, founded in 1877 around a small river outlet to service initially gold, then the timber and sugar industries. The village offers great shopping, especially resort clothing and accessories, and a diverse range of restaurants, cafes and hotels/bars. There is a fantastic Sunday market. Unquestionably, it is the premier base to explore two of Australia's, and indeed the World's, most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. Firtly, the Great Barrier Reef. It is the largest living structure on the planet. Stretching 2300km, the reef covers some 344,400 square km in area, with over 3000 individual coral reef clusters, 600 continental islands, 300 coral cays and about 150 inshore mangrove islands. Despite recent bleaching, there are more than 600 types of soft and hard corals, 3000 plus varieties of molluscs, 625 types of fish, 133 varieties of sharks and rays, and more than 30 species of whales and dolphins. Secondly, the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation National Parks. They form part of the greater Wet Tropics of Queensland, a wider region of spectacular scenery and rugged topography. Over 30 per cent of Australia's marsupial species, 58 per cent of bat species, 29 per cent of frog species, 20 per cent of reptile species, 58 per cent of the butterfly species, 40 per cent of bird species and 85 species of vertebrate animals reside in the Wet Tropics. Aboriginal occupation of the area probably dates back to the earliest human occupation of Australia some 50,000 years ago.
Stayz policy prohibits internet links, but for details and options on how to visit our unique local attractions, please make a search under 'Great Barrier Reef Park Authority', 'Queensland Government National Parks' (GBR; Daintree/Tropical Rain forest) sites and Port Douglas tourist information sites.
We invite you to enjoy Port Douglas and the Four Mile Beach, the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree, the Tablelands and other attractions by staying at Solana.
If you experience any booking issue, any fault or inadequacy at the property, unacceptable uncleanliness, insufficient or broken furniture, fittings or equipment or any reasonable complaint PLEASE advise us IMMEDIATELY. Instructions how to do so are provided on arrival. We will do our utmost to promptly, efficiently and professionally rectify the issue. If you break something, please report it. Don't hide it for a future guest to be inconvenienced! If the damage was not wilful, we accept accidents happen.

The place was clean as advertised and very close to everything. Its very hot in Port Douglass, the air con in every room was very handy. Next time I visit again I will definitely stay at this lovely home. The owner is friendly and gave us very easy instructions about where to find keys and where to find essentials in the town.
Dear Sibon, Thank you so much for your review. Great you had a nice holiday in the hottest month of the year in Port Douglas. Come back in May-July! With a return discount. Thanks so much for telling us about the small maintenance issue. It is terrific when guests report a problem so we can repair before the next guests arrive. Kind regards, Greg and Uta
Fantastic ! This has everything!
Really enjoyed our week at Solana on Four Mile Beach ! The place was so clean and so well equipped, everything you could need for a beach holiday full of barbeques and all just a minute or 2 walk to beautiful Four Mile Beach ! The lunge pool was a hit with the kids, and the lovely balconies upstairs were ideal for relaxing in the afternoons....We thoroughly recommend this property !
Dear Sonia, Thank you so much for your very complimentary review. Fantastic you, and especially the children, had a wonderful holiday. We really do try and ensure the townhouse is maintained in an exceptional condition, whether cleanliness, equipment or functionality. We aim for people to have an enjoyable, trouble free holiday at a fair and reasonable price. We have found guests respect that fact and treat the townhouse with care. Although we are living there from time to time, and can perform a 'deep clean' and thorough maintenance, we are fortunate my brother lives in Port Douglas and manages the property, settling people in and quickly resolving issues as they may arise. Again Sonia, thanks for taking the time to write a great review. Greg and Utage
All I can say is WOW!
This property is fantastic...and absolutely true to its description and pictures! This is not the standard vacation rental with generic appointments; instead is a very high quality townhome. For instance the kitchen design, appliances, cooking and serving utensils, cookware, dinnerware, flatware options, etc. would make even a gourmet chef smile. The downstairs family and dining areas are spacious, comfortable and well appointment. The private enclosed large patio is outfitted with a large dining and seating area and barbeque grill; and the downstairs laundry and vanity bath is a real bonus. Also comes with a plunge pool but based on the time of the year, was a bit too cool for our use.
Upstairs the bedrooms are roomy, come with attached decks.and provide beautiful views of this quiet and lovely cul-de-sac area. The master bath has an incredible jetted tub (as well as a walk-in shower and double sinks). The other upstairs bath is divided into separate toilet and shower rooms (making it easy for "morning traffic flow". The outside of the six unit building is decorated with lovely plants and water fountains and is a 5 minute or less stroll to Four Mile Beach where nature's beauty is breathtaking. Make sure to also go to the beach at night for incredible star gazing.
Highly recommend this property for the traveler who values the opportunity to enjoy all the quality and comfort of a high end vacation experience. We sincerely appreciate the owner sharing his marvelous home.
Dear WP, Thank you so much for your generous review, especially appreciated as it comes from discerning overseas travelers. We are so happy you had an enjoyable and trouble-free holiday at Solana in Port Douglas. As mentioned in our previous replies, we take pride and care of our property; our home when in Australia. The furniture, fittings, electrical appliances, cutlery, crockery and kitchen extras (e.g. the wide range of cook books) are as we use when there. Being of such high quality, we find the vast majority of guests too respect their use of the property and its contents. All at an extremely competitive price. Just in case of any expectations from potential guests reading your review that Solana is a 'tropical mansion', we would say it is more than sufficient and comfortable across all rooms and exceptionally well appointed and functional! That aside, again thank you so much for your review. Please refer us to your friends. Please yourselves come back to Port Douglas and Stayz at Solana again. Best regards Greg
Solana a restful escape!
Solana is really clean, well appointed and everything is high quality and in good working order. In particular the kitchen is fantastic and it was great to be able to prepare meals so easily. It is quiet and comfortable, so it was perfect for a much needed rest. A lovely walk to town via the beach, or a short drive for a night out.
Dear Eileen, Thanks so much for your very positive review. We are very happy you had a peaceful and restful holiday. We believe the kitchen to be one of the best equipped anyone will ever find in a rental property. The same goes with the overall condition and maintenance of the townhouse. We live there when not overseas for work and desire guests to enjoy the same high quality furniture and fit-out, along with functionality and cleanliness, as we expect for ourselves. It is very useful that my brother lives in Port Douglas to manage the property and ensure guests enjoy a trouble-free stay. Hope you can return to Port Douglas and stay at Solana again in the future. Greg and Utage
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was well presented and we wanted for nothing during our time there. We would have no hesitation in returning to the property in future. Information provided by the owner was really informative and helpful.
Dear David, Thank you for your review. The key endorsement you give is that 'we would have no hesitation in returning to the property in future'. You would be most welcome and we give a 10% discount if within two years. As can be seen with past reviews, Solana on Four Mile Beach, aside from consistently getting a five star overall rating, is too used to receiving the highest ranking of five stars across all sub-categories. Your given four stars for location and comfort perhaps reflects that the (relatively big) townhouse is neither in the center of town nor a sprawling house. However, and importantly, we believe and trust that the description on the Stayz or Home Away sites adequately and accurately describes the property. Guests receive what they read and therefore Solana fits within or above their expectations. Enough. Thank you again and as mentioned, you would be very welcome back and indeed, to review again. Greg
Will be back!
Very well equipped centrally located and easy walks right at front door along the beach. We used the pool alot and found ourselves looking forward to coming home for a swim after our busy days out. Thanks for having us.
Dear Michelle, Thank you for your review. We are happy you enjoyed your holiday in Port Douglas, staying at Solana. Great you found the pool private, refreshing and clean. On cleanliness, your review is the first we have ever had with a rating of 4 Stars against any category. Our reviews tend to always receive 5 stars for everything. We are unsure what caused you to give this rating but accept it. We absolutely pride ourselves in offering the best equipped, clean and appealing apartment in Port Douglas, at value, so we will be speaking to the cleaning team. We are returning in two weeks and will be giving the apartment a truly full makeover and thorough 'owner level' clean, as we really don't want our guests worrying about anything (manageable) around where they are staying. You are there to enjoy your holiday. Hope you return again for a holiday at Solana. Best regards Greg
