Overview

About the property

Follow a white wallaby into a Bruny Island Wonderland. Birdlife and wallabies abound in this peaceful chalet.

Honeycomb Cottage is a hexagonal chalet situated near the homestead of the historic 'Mavista' farm at Adventure Bay. The cottage includes a queen-sized bed, a kitchen with a small electric stove, microwave and fridge, crockery and cutlery and tea/coffee-making facilities. The open-plan area also has a dining area, couch and wood-heater.

There is an ensuite bathroom/laundry, with a bath, shower over bath, washing machine and clothes dryer.

Enjoy the tranquility of this 200 acre farm, with views to Cape Queen Elizabeth and the Hounds Tooth, and across the Bay to the Tasman Peninsula.

The farm abounds with birdlife and at dusk the Honeycomb will be surrounded by Bennetts wallabies. You may be treated to the sight of a rare white wallaby or a visiting wedge- tailed eagle or white-bellied sea eagle.

We do not provide breakfast, but you may request a fresh loaf of home-made bread delivered to your door at 8AM on your first morning here . There is a general store and cafes nearby, and around the island.

We are about four kilometres from adventure cruise operations which can take you out into the Southern Ocean looking for seals, whales, dolphins, albatross and other sea birds.

You can the historic Bligh Museum on Adventure Bay Road and learn about the early European visitors to the Bay, and learn about their contacts with the Nuenone, and the history of early whaling and sawmilling in the area.

Take a gourmet tour of the island and visit the local cheese factory, oyster farm and vineyard, and the upmarket Alonnah hotel, or visit the many art galleries on this island.

Bring your pushbike if you want some exercise. Touring motorbikes are also welcome.

Walk in the stunningly-beautiful South Bruny National Park and visit the spectacular Cape Bruny lighthouse.

If you bring your own kayaks you may, if the farm is not too boggy, access our landing in Captain Cook Creek. Bring snorkelling or diving gear and explore the underwater delights of the Bay. Look out for weedy sea dragons at East Cove.

Natural beauty

We planned to go straight to the bush and Honeycomb cottage was just what we needed. The cottage is very warm and has a view to the ocean.

The local birds and wallabies are plentiful and included a white wallaby.

John brought us freshly baked bread on our first morning which was divine and he also asked a friend to let us know what was happening locally with the penguin viewing.

It was so peaceful and spring bulbs were popped up all over the grounds.

I had lovely chats with Anne on email too. All in all, a delight.

Comfy and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Honeycomb Cottage is a delightful cottage, an unusual shape, hexagonal! The host was welcoming and the cottage decked out with the necessary items for cooking and washing up plus some coffee and tea to get one started! Being self contained of course we supplied our own food items. The views were beautiful. I think the white wallaby is a permanent resident! We enjoyed the quietness. I certainly recommend Honeycomb Cottage.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful. The overall stay was lovely being surrounded in bush and wildlife. I would recommend putting more signs up as we had a little trouble finding the cottage

Fantastic spot, a must see

  • 5 of 5

A lovely quiet spot with a wonderfully friendly and accommodating hostess. The property is out of the way from the hustle and bustle (haha) of Adventure Bay.

The cottage is really comfortable with all the comforts needed. The log fire was a welcome sight after a day's sightseeing in the colder weather.

I highly recommend this cottage to anyone venturing to Bruny Island.

What a wonderful few days despite the wet weather. The cottage is well appointed, quiet and cosy. The hostess was welcoming, friendly and helpful. I hope to return one day and will certainly be spreading the good news.
