Awesome stay in Oceanside!
The house is in a great location. Close to everything but offers a lot of privacy. The outside living is awesome to relax and accommodated a large group as well . We loved the feel of the house .
Loved Freeman House
We came out to Southern California for our daughter's wedding. It was at the Leo Carillo Ranch in Carlsbad, but the ocean side communities are so near each other that you can't make a mistake in regards to which one you stay at. I chose Freeman House because I love the Craftsman style and because the house had plenty of room for guests. The house worked out beautifully. I had my adult siblings stay the whole time and my adult children coming in and out for days here and there during our 7 night stay. There is no air (and I new that booking). There are enough fans you can place around, with windows open, to keep the home very comfortable during the day. We would move them into bedrooms at night to circulate the cooler night air in the rooms. It worked out wonderfully. Everyone slept great on very comfortable beds and the night air. The bathroom situation with two in the main house and one in the 'shack' worked out beautifully also. Everyone woke up at slightly different times, liked to morning lounge for different amounts of time and left the house for exploration at different times, so there was no delay in any getting showers in. The bathrooms are wonderful and there were plenty of big fluffy white towels for everyone. There is a Keurig coffee maker that takes the k-cups, a microwave, dishwasher and laundry facilities that all function very well. The stairway is a little spiral, but we had no difficulty with it at all. Creaky? It's a 1926 Craftsman, come on! That's part of the charm! This home worked out beautifully for us. You can feel the loving care the the home receives from the hosts. Sarah and Christopher would respond almost instantly to any questions. I have to say that we had so many people going in and out at different times that we did separate the keys. We found it to work out best in our situation. There is a lock box you can use also though. I have stayed in a number of vacation rental homes that I have liked very much. Freeman house is up there with them. The location to the beach is fabulous! There was a surf competition going on and this home is a few blocks from the beach in a cute neighborhood without all the crazy foot traffic of being right on the beach. We went to and from the house to the beach off and on throughout the day. There are lots of good restaurants right in Oceanside and a number of breweries you can walk to. Groceries are a short drive away. Check it out if you are looking for a place in the area.
Nice for Large Groups
We loved the house, it was very comfortable and clean. We stayed with a group of 12, there was plenty of sleeping room, and we really appreciated the large tables indoors and outdoors. The kitchen was nice for cooking, but there wasn't enough silverware to go around and no serving utensils. There weren't enough towels or dish towels, and no wash cloths. It would have been nice to have a coffee pot, there is a Keurig but it's not the same. The description was a little deceiving, it's a little over a half mile to a sandy beach, the ocean (rocky) is about 6 blocks away but it's a long walk to a beach for small children or if carrying beach chairs and toys. We had a really good time but will rent someplace else next time.
Oceanside family vacation
Very comfortable house for a large group. We had 8 adults a toddler and infant. House has almost everything needed, including beach chairs and equipment.
The only thing lacking was wash clothes. We would rent there again if the opportunity arose.
Wouldn't stay again, not great for large groups or families
Our group did not fit well in this house - the photos made the interior seem larger than it was and the lay out is very difficult for families. There are a lot of stairs and they are especially steep going to the second floor of the main house. The front yard was also just a large area of dirt and not a great space for kids to play in as there were sharp rocks and ledges everywhere. The "shack" which was described as the "second master" was in bad shape. Upon arrival the door to the shack and the door to the bathroom were broken and the shower didn't work. The bed is also a built in futon feel so one person has to crawl over the other to get out.
The outdoor dining table was nice for our entire group to gather for meals and the beach chairs and toys were a nice amenity. Other than that we would not recommend this home for families with young children or a large group that needs communal space to hang out.
Great vacation in a comfortable, beautiful home!
It is a well-cared for property with many important details that make you feel at home and make it easy to have fun and not feel crowded even if it is a large group like we were. Excellent host.
